In hindsight not many of Jose's signings did what they said on the tin did they?

Bailly
Mhkitaryan
Lindelof
Matic
Lukaku
Sanchez
Dalot
Fred

I mean the only unequivocal success signing he had was Zlatan on a free transfer (I won't usher Paul Labile's name)
Massive waste of money and building years...

Matic has been decent
decent but in patches. He has never been consistent enough playing at the top level that draws attention from all football fans / pundits and players (unlike Kante for example) at all and his best patch was when his contract was due for renewal to be perfectly honest, since then it's gone back to being too erratic.

We need a world class box to box or holding (pending what you think we need there to finish things off....(bar a wc striker)

He had one bad injury, I wouldn’t say he’s injury prone. Not like Jones, Saha, Hargreaves and Bailly. He certainly deserves credit for getting back into such good form, though he was better before the injury.

Varane stands to gain alot from this move. In my opinion, I've never Madrid have truly appreciated their defensive players. Even in the case of Ramos, his goals and attitude rather than his actual defensive performances have been what have truly been celebrated at Madrid. Them letting him go despite not truly having a player of his calibre replacing him is a clear sign of this.

In addition, I have always felt that his game in terms of his ability to win duels and his aerial ability were features that were not truly utilized in Madrid due to the style of play in La Liga. Those elements of his game are used when he plays for France; I feel that playing in the Premier League will allow him to fully showcase his full skillset in a way La Liga never will. Unlike Madrid, we do celebrate our defenders. Yes Maguire is an anomaly in that area, but that has more to do with his look and his nationality than him being a defender. As a club, we are and have always been great at letting good players know that their talents and attitude are fully valued and I feel that is what Varane is looking for. He can become a legendary centre back for us.

Where’s Ball ache? The summer isn’t the summer without his wisdom on Spanish transfers

Out of work. BBC don't need him as much as Sky Sports did.
I think he stands in Speakers Corner now, shouting about how close Messi was to City because of the lure of Pep and his shiny head.

Great post. Fully agree just with exclusion of Maguire bit. I always saw Harry as a great defender. Him and Varane will become legendary. They compliment each other so well.

Nope. That would be Smalling.

Considering how shaky Lindelof was his first two seasons, I'd rate him on the same level as Blind. Jones, Bailly, Rojo and Tuanzebe on the level below.
The only reason he played so much was that the others were injured. He started every season as a backup.

And when we had two defenders who don’t get injured he was shipped to sone Italian mid table team and has been meh there.

Smalling was promising a long time ago, but when they shared the same club, Lindelof was the better player.

If there are quarantine issues causing a hold up can they not just try and get him a seaman’s book and get it stamped by some rogue captain. Arrive in Heathrow show them it and skip all quarantine issues then get a train up.

Or he could just chill in the Lowry Hotel for 5 days and not get himself banned for the first few months of his United career for false paperwork...

Only 3 pages in 5 hours, disappointed in my fellow muppets. Are the tweets all dried up or something.

Well the transfers done, we've all moved on, rightfully so. The train has reached its final destination. The muppet train doesn't wait for some official confirmation when there's more muppeting to be done!

The reaction on here to Lindelof is a disgrace. Is he a Champions League winning CB? No. Should he be regarded as the worst signing of modern era? Absolutely not nor should he be anywhere near such list. The hyperbole is doing my head in.

Yeah we’ve disembarked the train, no time for the after party. More trains to catch

It wouldn’t be false paper work and be totally above board. It’s how many offshore workers have been skipping quarantine.

Site crashed. Thought it was because of big news. Checked the BBC. Nope. We haven't signed Sneijder.

We got a fundraiser going for a new fax machine? Don't want it breaking down this time

Mourinho has no eye for talents for a long time already. He doesn’t assess and treat players as personalities in the first place, they must earn his respect.

Ole has a much better transfer record for us than Mourinho. Ole is personal with his players and assess them as personalities. He gets references from people around him especially those who knew him for a lot of time. SAF‘ school.

Varane is not an ageing mercenary looking for a nice retirement contract as often portrayed. He is a seasoned professional and serial winner, he wants to be in a good team, great squad, young and challenging. He will turn turn out to be great.
