You can forget about Marquinhos.
Would he join a less competitive side than we currently are, is what I mean. I think getting any top player will be challenging both as we're quite far from being a top side and it's hard to imagine Ole has an attraction for most top players (not slating him, just think it's a pretty obvious observation).
I think it's that he'd want to play with Pogba not be used in exchange with him
€50m max. Last year of his contract and 28y/o, that's good money.

I honestly can't see him opting to join us. Why would he? Chelsea are way ahead of us in terms of attractiveness at this point and I can see them adding him for giggles. Like with other targets we shouldn't waste time if he's not interested, we have a lot to do this summer.
My worry would be that we again sign a player for a long contract for big money and on a high salary, and he shows to be on the wrong side of his peak.
And then spend another season of McFred?

How are Chelsea WAY ahead of us in terms of attractiveness? Jesus, some of our fans have the most unbelievable (and unfounded) inferiority complexes. Granted, they won CL last year but we finished above them in the league, pay on a par with them and offer a bigger platform for players interested in their *shudder* marketability. The way some of you lot go on it's like clubs can just take players off us at will. There remain very few clubs with as significant a global following and that are willing and able to pay with the best. We're not Spurs ffs.

Not really much of a stretch to say Chelsea will be a more attractive prospect than us right now to any player eyeing major trophies, and that's even before you factor in the London effect or start comparing managers.

CL is a knockout tourney... no disrespect to Chelsea who had a wonderful European campaign but you're much more likely to squeak that sort of tournament on a mixture of ability AND (crucially) fortune than a 38 game PL season. Again, players look at more than just medals and earning potential at United (when you look at sponsorships and endorsement potential) will carry a lot of weight. Cheer up, it's not all doom and gloom.
It isn't but they did just win the champions league which will gloss over any other recent shortcomings unfortunately.

Not sure about squeaking the CL considering it also has a group stage component, and the less said about that the better. Also, after Tuchel arrived Chelsea took 38 points in the Prem, while we took 34.
Europe has already forgotten about Chelseas CL win. Its not this historical win that reverberates throughout history.
Doesn't Varane possible transfer fly in the face of current United philosophiy. He is over 25 and on his last year of a contract.
I do agree that it's less likely after the Euros, especially if he ends up winning it with France. Were they to suffer a shock early exit, maybe would work in our favour.
But again, all together now, it's fun to speculate but it's not happening. It's better for the psyche this way.
They've also won the league more recently than us, and have just won the champions league. Truth is no one will remember or care about where we finish in the top 4 behind the champions.
But ignore the past for a moment and compare both clubs at this current point - Chelsea have the better squad, the far better manager, and IMO better poised to mount a title challenge next season than we are. It's not obscene to suggest that Varane would consider them a more attractive destination. Then there's the London factor too.

Players who don’t support United (or maybe even some that do) don’t think about the same things that we fans do.
They consider recent trophies and the set up of he club, in conjunction with the location.
Unfortunately Chelsea are based in London which is massively more attractive than Manchester to foreign players and they’ve won things, big things more recently than us, plus the manager has a bigger reputation that ours.
We love our club but footballers don’t really love any club, they just look at what is best for their careers. Really the only thing we do better than Chelsea currently is over pay players, which does attract a certain type at least.
Remove your emotion from it and look at it rationally instead.

We signed Edinson Cavani, Telles, Ighalo (on loan) and Maguire under Ole. Not much of a philosophy.
Players care about a lot of different things. So your post doesn't really mean anything. Trippier moving to Man Utd doesn't make sense for him but he is up for it. Lots of things come into play.
Of course, just explaining to this blinded by emotion.
Real Madrid offered Varane a new contract, but Varane hasn't responded. Real Madrid are going to try to keep him, but they won't be fussed with losing him. They're hoping to get 60 million Euros from his sale.
They'll honestly be lucky to get that much for him. Their only hope is for either United to run out of targets or for more clubs to get involved in bringing in the player.
I disagree with this, Chelsea aren't even close to having one of the best squads in the domestic league. The main difference is they have a very good manager while United are still seeing how far Ole can go in terms of his managerial capabilities.
