The Robben case was atrocious. We had agreed a deal, but Kenyon told Robben to spend another year at PSV so we could get him for free instead. Robben rejected it and Kenyon went to Chelsea and bought him for Chelsea
Let's also not act as if this was some sort of quick deal. The point I was making is it is the norm for us to take a while before signing someone.
All the leg work for Sancho was done 12-18 months ago really.

I am saying we take ages making a transfer, not sure what that has to do with highest spend or done much.

My point is so far we have done better in the transfer window then any club in the top 6. PSG are about the only club in Europe who have signed players of any quality. If we get Varane and Sancho this summer I think we have done well. That’s another £120m spent during COVID times and fans still moan like we don’t spend any money.

Varane's top speed in the Euro's was 32.6km/h. Shaw's was 31km/h, Maguire 30.6km/h. He was faster than Saka, Kane and only just outpaced by Sterling (33.1km/h)
Hardly slow.
I think you are mistaken, fans that I have seen moan more moan at how the money is spent rather not spending any money.
Fans are moaning at the structure.
1. Inability to sell players
Chelsea just sold Guehi, Tomori for close to £50m
Liverpool sell players very well, they sold Grujic for £8m which is similar to what we got for Smalling
2. The way United have spent money
Alexis, AWB, Fred, Dalot, Donny -
3. Inability to get deals in the market
4. Inability to trust their scouts to find gems

I struggle to understand people who use top speed as an indicator. Top speed is an indicator of the highest speed a player has reached, not the average speed at which they run, which is the clear indicator of their pace. What you are essentially calculating here could be the speed a player reached for a mere second.
I don't really care about the point you're making, but top speed is really an indicator of absolutely nothing.

You are comparing 21 year old Guehi and 23 year old Tomori on decent wages I imagine to, who are we trying to sell again?
Oh yes, Phil Jones. Never fit and on high wages. I mean, what a bargain that is! I'm sure clubs will be clamouring up the hill to get a run at Phil Jones, surely!

Sure.. but average speed isn't something they've released. But inevitably there are going to be times in games where a player gets caught short and is going to sprint to their maximum, paticularly defenders to stop an attacker. There is nothing I've seen in watching him that suggests he can't hold speed, some examples below:

Also, Mason is a starter, Chelsea didnt sell the likes of James, Gilmour.

Brandon Williams isn't going to make it at United.
Look at Liverpool they sold Solanke for £20m, Coutinho for £140m, Ibe for £20m They sell players that are not going to make it at the club.
Tomori is born in 1997 and Mejbri is born in 2003.
If Hannibal doesn't show us anything by 2027 and some club comes in for him I say bite their hand off.
I'm not questioning your thought process that Varane is fast. An eye test could tell you that he's a brilliant athlete. I just don't think top speed is the way to do it. The slowest players can hit peak speeds, but it doesn't mean they're fast. It's one of those stats that just doesn't make much sense to be listed, especially when a better metric would be their average speed.
No doubt, Varane is fast though. Don't know why anyone would doubt that.
Those stats mean nothing. I guarantee he's not a fast as most of those players if they actually hit a full sprint. I remember Soyuncu hit over 37km/h. Van Dijk hit 35.5km/h.
Part of the issue with Varane is the first few metres where he can be cumbersome and lacking in agility.

Lots of red flags on this page
Varane has most a little pace last years which is normal, but still fast. However I agree that he struggled with the pacey attacks from Chelsea. But I don’t expect pace to be a potential problem when he moves to the PL, it will more be the physical football that will be his test.
Tomori is the same age as Rashford. If we relentlessly loan Mejbri out, have him play really well for other sides and sell him for below his value without giving him a chance, does that mean we are suddenly great transfer negotiators?

But they did give him his shot. He played almost 2000 minutes the season before last (19/20-season).
He was even benched by Lampard himself, the manager who played him week in, week out, at Derby the season before. First out of the squad and then out of the team entirely. Why would you keep a 23 year old that doesn't even make the bench around?
I could sympathize if a youth player is given 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there and then is sold, but half a season's worth of games surely is enough to form an assessment. It may not always be the correct one, but hey, that's management.

He has 17 league appearances for Chelsea. He wasnt given a chance.
