Rank our post-SAF managers

Ole made us a laughing stock and every other fanbase in the country was praying he wouldn't be sacked. If that's your best, it's pretty damning.

The same was said about every other manager post Ferguson at the end of their tenure.

Ole
LVG
Jose
Moyes

This season was bad. But I seriously thought Ole has done decent job, managing to dinish 3rd and 2nd consecutively. I enjoyed out football again after Jose's tenure.

LVG's football was boring, but you can see what he was trying to build. I partly blame Di Maria that it failed. We looked so good early on with Di Maria in the middle.

Jose is very unlikeable. But he has trophies to back it up.

Ole is by far and away the worst manager we have had post SAF. Had 3 seasons, wasted insane amount of money, won nothing, brooked many bad records, dropped the standards of the club to the rock bottom, made United the laughing stock of the football world. "Ole's at the wheel" song will be sang by the rivals fans for years to come.

Mourinho
Ole
Van Gaal
Moyes

Moyes is hard to assess, as he had the hardest job and got the shortest time but he probably was the worst. Also the only one that left the squad in a worse place than the manager before. Van Gaal was absolutely dire, apart from a few short spells, but he did get some good talent into the squad in my opinion (even though most of his signings didn't really pan out) and I would say we had a better squad when he left. Mourinho played a bit better football than Van Gaal, won more and continued to improve the squad and even though he atmosphere was toxic when he left, he left a much better squad than the one he took over IMO. Ole then played the best football out of the four managers and improved the squad the most, but he just couldn't implement any sort of style of play and he underachieved the most given the players he's had since the start of last season. He get's above Van Gaal for playing better football and improving the squad quite a bit, but below Mourinho for winning nothing while playing just slightly better football.

I don't care for the Europa Cup etc - I just want us to have some progress towards the top.

I feel better with how Ole has left United behind compared to how Van Gaal or Mourinho left it behind.

Everyone was a disaster and all were short term answer at best. Jose was fittest to that role as he came, added some items to the trophy room, then moaned about things, hurt some mentally weak players' feelings and f*cked off.

Ole looks to me like victim of detestable club's governance, destroyed by pressure which he never intended to endure in the first place.

Gotta give 1st place to Giggsy as he made the less amount of damage and served as our true caretaker. His purpose was very simple, yet so logical among all the despicable appointments, contract handouts and attempt to leave CL for even bigger Disney Land shenanigans.

People who make manager's appointments still happily running the show and Michael Carrick is next for the manager's electric chair.

Mourinho easily first and Moyes easily the last. The other I cannot really decide, LVG football was really really horrible, he also had bad transfer, but he won FA cup, while Ole sometimes produces good football, his transfer has been okay, but he won nothing and this season is definitely the worst I've seen from any managers post SAF, even worse than Moyes'

I go along with that.
But I have to say that in many ways, the players have had a huge influence on the managers outcomes.
They were obviously not impressed with Moyes and toward the end, for Ole.
For LVG, they started to respond but seemed to decide that they were not going although with his philosophy.
And for Jose, they responded well for his first 2 years, but then pretty much stopped playing for a number of reasons.

In my view, they have contributed to the sacking of all 4 managers and that absolutely cannot be allowed to happen again.

At least Ole cared about the club to the end, was just out of his depth. Mourinho talked about ‘football heritage’ and put down the club for his own weird ramblings. Nothing will ever be as toxic as Mourinho in my opinion.

Jose
Ole
LvG
Moyes

Whilst none of us liked Jose in the end he still has the far higher win rate. His 2nd place was with a worse team and of course he got a trophy.

LvG is only behind Ole because his football was the most boring I've ever seen.

1- Mourinho (Best by far) - Was manager during the strongest period post-Ferguson. The Premier League had a genuine top six and a team that topped 100 points in a season. He also won a Europa League and a League Cup.

2- Van Gaal (At least a trophy to show for the rubbish football - that second season was awful, though)

3- Moyes - I am more lenient on him. He had the hardest job by far. People say about the team winning the Premier League in 12/13, but that was a swansong. That team was on the decline and was carried by Van Persie, mainly, and Carrick. A lot of the players were finished at the end of 13/14. The performances were not even good in 12/13. Moyes took over a dead team with no promise, and took over from a manager who was in place for 25 years.

4- Solskjaer - We were really bad for most of his time here. It was just covered up by a very weak league. The points total for second last season wouldn't have been enough for top four in 16/17. The league was far stronger in Mourinho's period.

It seems most agree that the squad Ole leaves behind is quite good, so maybe the club should look into having him in some sort of transfer committee in the future?

Mourinho
Solskjaer/Van Gaal
Moyes

A bloke on SKY said Ole was statistically better than SAF except when it came to trophies! So crap then.
People love to wheel out those stats against Fergie to prop someone up ignoring the context of his record being over 1000 games,

If it's the win percentage record, it's not true and Mourinho's record is also better than Ole's.

Solskjaer
Mourinho

Van Gaal

I agree. I was pro Ole until about 6 weeks ago and believed we were on the right path. We'll probably hear rumors about what went wrong in the near future and why he lost the locker room. It looks like Young Boys was the start of the downward trend. However, the next match I thought we played great the 1st half vs West Ham. That was our last good half IMO though.

Mourinho 341m (113.6m/season)
Ole 326m (108.6m/season)
LVG 203m (101.5m/season)
Moyes 77m

And if we adjust for football market inflation, Ole actually comes out better than Van Gaal as well(seasonally).

The myth that he was a big spender in the context of United managers needs to die. He wasn't given any special treatment and the reason he survived for as long as he did is based on his results. Moyes would have survived if he managed top 4. Van Gaal wouldn't have been sacked if he finished 2nd in his second full season. Mourinho got to stay in charge almost up until Christmas, upon which we were 11(!) points behind top 4.

If Jose had left at the end of his second season there'd be far more appreciation for it. That summer we dumped McKenna, Carrick, and Fred on him and wouldn't sign the defenders he wanted. He shouldn't have sulked but just like now the board were being twats.
