I really like Mbappe, but I fell that there has been an overreaction on his talent based on yesterdays match. Maybe that just me:)

Its not just you. Each positive touch he has will be inflated many times beyond any normal player who made the same touch and each poor touch will be ignored. Its part of the hype machine.

L1 is definitely much more difficult physically than Spain and EPL isn't anything special defensively. It may be a bit more difficult for defenses, with some more technical quality in the build up in Spain and a little more average ability among attacking players down the table in England.
Be Be Right Back Back. Fontaine is that you?

On a more serious note, what you just said is totally your own (biased) opinion. How many times have you watched EPL and La Liga?

In the Olympics maybe, but not in football imo. WCs are great in terms of hype and being remembered by casual fans, but are not a replacement for players being remembered as quality footballers. Otherwise the likes of Rossi, Scillacci, Klose, and others would be remembered as being great overall players.

On the other hand players like Zidane and R9 are considered legends because of their big game performances in big WC matches. I don't think any player would view a WC or CL knock-out match on par with a league match. Big matches are simply necessary for a great player's legacy. Someone more consistent in league but never in WC/Copa (Aguero) will never be seen as great as someone a little more inconsistent in league matches but always plays superbly in the big matches (Zidane).

It's an easy league. Day in day out he's playing against cannon fodder.

He should be in England or Spain.

But he's not, he's in France the country he was born in, playing for the city he grew up in. So feck off with your biased opinion as if he's wasting his career because he's not playing in your league, he'll go to Real Madrid next and even if he did it four years from now, he'd still only be 23. He's got plenty of time on his side, I'm not getting why people are acting like he's only got a few years left to ply his trade. He's getting all the chances to shine on a big stage in the CL, and playing in France certainly didn't seem to affect him yesterday.

Also, he has a much better chance of winning the CL with Paris than he would with, say, Manchester United.

In what world is Paolo Rossi not considered a great player? Most everyone would consider him an all time great

Also, in what world was Zidane less consistent than Aguero? I really don't think people who think this saw nearly enough of Zidane during his peak years(97-2004)

He was a great WC player. Not so much in the league. That's the entire point - playing very well in a WC doesn't make a great player. Its the entirely of their careers that has to be looked at.

You don't know what you're talking about mate. Read up on Rossi's career. Spain 82 was the crowning jewel, not an isolated showing. There's a reason Bearzot choose to wait for him instead of calling up the best active italian striker of the time for that WC

The crowing jewel for what precisely ? He didn't play football (3 appearances) between 80-82 and finished his career with a whopping 103 goals over 12 seasons. Scintillating stuff.

And i repeat: you don't know what you're talking about. Read up on his career, or don't. But either way, you're dead wrong on this

Hate posts like this.

Why don’t you explain why he doesn’t know what he’s talking about? Rather than being plain arrogant.

Am I wrong that he was suspended for two years leading up to Spain 82 ? How can the WC therefore be considered a crowning jewel to his career ?

Rossi was one of, if not THE best italian player in the world at the time of his ban for match fixing. As a 22 year old he dragged Vicenza to a second place finish in serie A. His club career was derailed by injuries, the ban and fighting Boniperti over wages, but again, Bearzot ignored Pruzzo who was tearing italian defences to shreds to wait for Rossi(who's ban ended shortly before the WC) for '82. Schillaci was a good striker who caught lightning in a bottle at a World Cup. Rossi was one of the best players Italy ever produced

In a similar fashion as 2002 was Ronaldo's crowning jewel. Not comparing Rossi to Ronaldo, but their careers had a similar arc(though for different reasons)

Maybe up until that point he was considered a great but his career numbers simply don't bear that out when compared with the players that came after him. Even during his era, Altobelli scored more goals at Inter alone, than Rossi did throughout his entire club and national team careers.

Paolo Rossi should not have played in 1982 imo!!

Look man, ask ANY italian who was the better player between Spillo(who was great, too!) and Rossi....

Rossi's club career was well below his level for various reasons. He was still one of the best players ever(top 100 for sure)

@Charles Miller  do you guys still hate him? :D
