Ralph Hasenhüttl

They made a couple of atrocious managerial appointments in a row (they sacked Puel for finishing 8th and being unlucky to lose the League Cup final), that squad is not close to one of the worst in the league and never was. I'll give you that he's a significant upgrade on Mark Hughes and Mauricio Pellegrino.

It’s not exactly brimming with quality either. Other than Danny Ings, they don’t really have anyone a top half team should be interested in (maybe Ward-Prowse purely as a set piece specialist but as an all round midfielder he’s bang average).

Turned off after 2-0 so just seen the final score on MOTD. Down to 10 and 9 men for majority of a match 5, maybe 6-0 fair enough. But losing 9-0 that is truly pathetic and unacceptable regardless of injuries and the early red card and it's happened to him twice now. People can say he's a good coach, but where was the coaching or the in game management? He has to apply that here somewhat and think about damage control any sane manager would.

Damage control was the plan, he just had absolutely no idea how to do it and went with 5 centre backs, rather than a proper back 5, so we could just play at will.

He was a little stubborn in this game, should've just shut up shop and limited damage control. They played way to open with 10 men from the 2nd minute.

TBF, they are not a low block team. They rely on intensity.
The score is too heavy and I saw him very very very low in mood in the post match interview. Feel sorry for him really.

To be fair to him it's clear that team is coached to constantly press.
When they went down to 10 they tried to park the bus but they don't have the quality in defense to that and it's clear they don't work on that in training.

I feel a bit sorry for him, clearly he's a very good coach but other than Ings they don't have a player who is better than average. He needs to find himself a better club.

Not after he bought on the extra DCs, no.
Look, I'll admit, it's only the second worst tactics used against us this season but that's only cause Leeds were unbelievably weird.

But those are the worst two set ups I've seen us play against. In 20 something years.

Very harsh criticism the game was only ever going to go one way. I rate him highly. His team ain’t the best. Give them Steve Bruce they’d be in the relegation zone.

Not arsed enough to have an opinion on him but not his fault today. He needs to give that kid that got sent off a slap, literally cost them game within the first minutes.

I will point out, I have no opinion on him as a manger outside of this game. I watch Southampton twice a year. I just thought he was appalling today.

Just stupidly running around and fouling the opposition is not a good game plan. Southampton have been a pretty dirty team under him, the likes Romeu seem to get away with some pretty bad tackles. At least when we play them, they always seem to have some bad challenges that get overlooked.

Still think he’s class and still think he’s got them way above where Saints should be quality wise - tonight they were screwed by injuries anyway and then to go down to 9 just made it a training game for us.

Man for man he’s doing wonders when you think of how poor that squad is and how often they get raided. I don’t get why some of our posters get so riled up when other managers like him, Bielsea, Arteta get praise and then come into threads to call him shit - these are mid table and relegation scrapping teams and simply cannot be compared to United.

What’s Steve Bruce got to do it with it? And while you have brought him up I doubt he’d lose 9-0

They went down to 9 on 86 minutes

Scaled for squad quality Nagelsmann losing 5-0 at Old Trafford was just as bad probably worse yet when he leaves Leipzig he'll have elite teams queing up for him.

Major shocker tonight but he's still an excellent coach.

Couldn’t be bothered to time stamp both cards as assumed everyone watched the game.

As an aside it felt like an eternity from that red to the final whistle but I guess VAR took a while.

They was 4 mins left when they went down to 9 men

Anyone else notice the centre half booting the ball straight out for a throw immediately after kick off after Bruno’s goal ?

Brought back bad memories of Joey fecking Barton

I just thought making the excuse for them that we played against 9 was a stretch. Shocking losing 7-0 with ten men even before that sending off. Not so much of a one off happening twice in two years no matter how good his teams press

I think they’re just the perfect example of a sum being greater than it’s parts and soon as they go a man down they’re absolutely fecked. Add in they had about 7 players out injured and it was going to be tough. From memory Leicester was game an early red as well.

No excuses needed, I don’t mind how soton do in the league as long as we take Max points from them. I do think he’s a really good coach though and if he goes somewhere with access to a deeper squad and some money he’ll be a force.

If you read past the clickbait headline and look at the actual quotes it seems pretty clear that it wasn't mean how you think it was? He even said “We put everything in that is possible against such teams but we saw a fantastic side.”
Forgot you were in my head, of course I wasn’t referring to him saying, “When you hear [United] celebrating in their dressing room then you realise what you have done today and how tough an opponent you have been. They are celebrating in there like they have won the Premier League, you know.

Pretty clear to me his praise is rather damning but to each he own, I don’t rate the comments.

Next time ask for clarification before assumption. I knew/know exactly what he said.

Fair points, they are fecked when they lose that player but he should atleast try to adapt a bit, they just got dicked tonight, by a United team ripe for slaughter for not scoring no less.

I think they’ve played decent football but I don’t think he’s a garunteed success or possible force anywhere, but who knows

I find it quite amusing that people are suggesting he should have just told his team to "defend the wings" as if that's a simple thing to do with 11 men, let alone 10. Every side that's poorer than their opposition will defend the centre over the wings.

He is a good coach and one cannot call him crap because of today's defeat.

And that too on a broad pitch like old Trafford. Defending the wings at OLD Trafford is a difficult task and an impossible one with 10 men.

Exactly! Of course you'll let the opposition do what they like out wide. Stretching the defense out and overcommitting to one flank would have been even more suicidal.
