Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Once he gave up on gegenpressing, the writing was on the wall for him.

He was meant to lay the foundations for a different type of football for next season, but he gave in too quickly to the lazy players.
No, he was brought in to get top 4, the whole laying foundations thing is a myth created by his supporters. As caretaker his job was the former, as a consultant, his job most definitely was to advise united on what steps to take on laying foundations, but that's probably not going to happen now he's fecked off to Austria.

Not a good appointment by Murtough, they know each other from Germany and it really went sour for Ralf quickly which was my fear. I wonder just how valuable his opinions are really for ETH on the squad, he will have to assess himself and is much more capable. The looking at the overall running of the club can be done without managing the squad for top4. I used to think it was good for Ralf to see it up close but now it seems a waste given his real role and actual goal this season.

Anyway even if a better job could've been done by Carrick or other temp manager which I'm sure it could I think getting 72+ points would've been difficult with the squad just really relying on Ronaldo for goals. Rashford and Cavani have just eroded in different ways, no Greenwood etc. Spurs have pounded the lower teams and got a GD of +29

Thanks to Ralf for stepping in this season. It's not been an easy year for himself and the team, he comes across as an intelligent bloke and has broken the allure surrounding the players. However, there is no denying that he has not lived up to the hype, results haven't improved and he hasn't managed to mould this group of players into a team. Having said that, when you are mid season its very difficult to have that kind of impact as games come thick and fast and recovery is at the forefront, on top of that, this group of players don't seem to be susceptible and suited to Ragnick's ideas.

I wish him luck with Austria, I think he will do well there. In regards to his consultancy role, I don't see him having much influence past the initial hand over to ETH.

I'm not sure top 4 was the only criteria, if it was we'd have taken Conte. I think the club was looking a lot more holistically than that.

Either way, it hasn't been a good time. We failed at top 4 and also failed to set a new culture in his time here.

The performances were awful and the results even worse.

It's been a fecking nightmare season , thank God it's over. When he was brought in making the CL was the goal and we ended up scraping the EL because Brighton did us a favour.

That says it all.

still can’t believe some of the comments here blaming Ralph. These are the same fans who are going to bury ETH and every other manager who doesn’t perform the way they like.

personally I think Ralph has been a breath of fresh air with his pressers and the way he has got things moving behind the scenes and exposing these cretins of players.

I honestly don’t believe these players would of played for any interim gaff and I think most of the proper fans will respect him in a year or two
This is incredible. A real breath of fresh air having the worst win percentage of a United manager in 50 years. Hot air.

People may frown at the term but how is this anything other than Rangnite logic.

We are 8th on goal difference, well below both west ham and Leicester. This is the lowest this club has been in several decades. Hopefully there aren’t any more lows because a negative goal difference is one step away from relegation battles.

feck everyone at the club at every capacity.

We finished 6th

The so-called "father of Gegenpressing" is in good parts a fraud. If you can accept that thought, everything else will immediately be easier to understand.
If thats true then Klopp, Tuchel and 90 percent if Germany are liars and frauds because its them who has been touting this story.

Yup, what a fecking tragic season. Our last two managers have been absolutely hideous (obv not including Carrick). In fact, every single manager post-Fergie has been terrible. Let's hope ETH can buck that trend.

H e has been crap, and I could maybe have been not as annoyed if he had not kept rewarding the same crap players again and again.

I feel sorry for the guy. He hadn't managed in years and was brought in as a stopgap to oversee a dysfunctional squad. He didn't bring in any of his own staff but was merely handed a massive pile of dung and told "see what you can do with this." He didn't stand a chance of doing anything beyond crisis management. The past few months must have felt like decades for him.

Now officially the worst United manager in over half a century, not since the early 70's have we had a manager with such a poor win ratio, 37.9%. Just as well the seasons over or it would have got much worse.

13 points off 4th when we were 3 points off CL qualification spots when he took over.

Only 5 wins in 4 months and 22% ratio since January.

Lost 6 away games in a row for the first time in 40 years.

Just about scraped into the EL despite losing away to Palace for the first time in 30 years. Which just about sums up the Rangnick era.

It's not all Ralf's fault of course (not even mostly) but by just about every metric he has been a massive failure. He says he shouldn't have expected a team to switch to a high press mid-season fair enough but there's more than one way to play football Ralf. He seems to be a one trick pony who realized fairly quickly he was out of his depth and seemed to lose heart. He couldn't build any sort of relationship with the squad or get a tune out of the majority of them. He has proved a terrible fit for this club and these players and ultimately been a disastrous appointment. He's won some lifelong friends in the British media with his press conferences though so that's nice for him I suppose.

Good luck in Austria Ralf.

The players are collectively underperforming because of an incompetent manager, not the other way around. If it was one or two players underperforming then it would be easy to identify them. If it’s the entire squad then that’s 100% on the manager.

That's certainly a possibility, hard to say any player has improved during his 6 months in charge. And the team's form and performances have got significantly worse.

Nope. You don't get to put this on the Germans. Klopp and Tuchel are obviously going to be complimentary when asked, but that's about it.
But what really should have given you pause is that of all posters here, the German ones were clearly the most reserved, cautionary, or puzzled about this Rangnick saga. Not just me, also @do.ob , and even @stefan92 who as a Hannover fan understandably is fond of Rangnick wasn't among the most enthusiastic. We all knew Rangnick wasn't really all that, at that level, and usually German posters defend and promote all things German.

It's you who generated the hype all by yourselves. Because you wanted it so much. You were lapping it all up. You didn't want to hear anything else.

If he was getting top 4 with shit football bet good number of you would sing RR at the wheel, this drivel around just taking participation in CL as goal is really something. Lets just take part in it, call it success, while big boys wipe the floor with us in knock out rounds, after which people drop comments like "we are miles away from top clubs" lul. Arsenal under Wenger MKII.

He came, he sold out his way, his formation, his preferance of player type, made wrong decisions from day one and failed as hell at the end, end of story. About squad Ole left him wont even comment, Ole burried us 6 feet deep with this 3 year old build cnuts squad. Lets hope ETH doesnt make same mistakes as RR and we can finally see some real improvement on the pitch peformance wise and results wise at the end.

The only good bits in that article is for Phelan. Most likely where the story has come from. Looks like a cheap shot at Rangnick and his team.

I honestly cannot believe how bad it's been.

Even the most cynical negative Utd fans couldn't have imagined this season. I've never been so happy for a season to end.

Darren Fletcher to be reported learning on the job as Technical Director of Manchester United. Only we'd hire personnel to 'learn' on the job. The state of the club ffs

He should be next out the door. Utter disgrace.

You just joined the elite club leading by VP89 as Ralf cult followers.

I don’t know how, Ralf did a terrible job. The biggest problems at the club though were caused by Ole (transfers, lack of fitness, poor coaching)

I don’t know why people are praising Ralph for being ‘honest’. What kind of shite is that. He’s been here two mins, has no relationship with the players of course he’s going to tell it how it is. Of course he’s going to give an honest account. On the flip side he’s been extremely poor managing this team. I struggle to see how we managed to nab 6th place. We were always going to reset the club this summer with or without Ralph. (Because Ed Woody left).
