That passes the eye test. We have played remarkably better football and our striker has let us down.
Still makes me giggle when fans say they see no change in performances.

Agree, everything re-start from scratch and eventually we will close the gap with city and pool. RR is doing a fine job after the absolute mess from Ole, we have to try it out first and see which areas (Pressing coherency, Stamina, Chance creation) must be improved.
Counter attack football should only be considered in special occasion against sides that are superior in possession/in Cup competition. It is a short-term fix and will not get us far in the future.
Since Ralf Rangnick took charge, no team has created more chances in the Premier League with 160...
However, four teams have scored more goals than than United (20) in this period.
The entire frontline is in terrible form now, maybe excluding Elanga & Sancho to some extent.
Ronaldo can't score.
Rashford is in terrible form.
Bruno's finishing has been subpar but he does create chances.
Sancho and Elanga exhilarating. Bruno is the reason our xG is so high and playing like we are. Rashford I’ve been highly critical of for the past 3 years for not improving his basic footballing ability. People finally woke up to him being a below average footballer.
Cristiano is 6-8 goals below his xG. He has likely cost us 10 points in the past 8 games.
Fairly obvious where the problem lies then - our fecking impotent strikers. I don’t think Ralf can do anything about Bruno, Rashford or Ronaldo missing sitters.
That Ronaldo signing is mixed feelings and regrets in waves. He's a huge reason we're still in the CL right now but could be why we don't make it next year. Everything about it is short term dopamine. The other players don't actually surprise me as they have now put together a solid resume of being unreliable and bottling important matches. I don't remember a United team so Spurs like.
We didn't have problems scoring goals before Ralf came in.
His job was not to create a new Philosophy or to create a new playing style. His job was to get the best out of the players for 6 months until the end of the season when we bring in our new manager. He has failed miserably so far and we haven't even played the top teams yet.
His appointment has been a complete disaster. Looking forward to seeing him go as soon as possible, our forward players have zero confidence under him.

So you're arguing that United appointed a coach with a very clear approach to football that is completely different from Ole's; who has in recent years mostly had DoF roles where he built up a club, especially in terms of style; and who is going to get a DoF-style consultation role after - and that his task is to just see out the season the best he can and not do anything with what he's actually specialized in or that relates to the consultation role he's getting?

I hope Ralf can guide us through this difficult run and keep the wheels on. You know this squad is quick to capitulate and start throwing blame around. He seems like a top guy, a real football man who knows his stuff. I’d say he’s appalled at the lack of value we are getting here and how coddled the players were relative to their output and effort. Hopefully big changes ahead with Ralf involved!

Just like yachts of russian billionaires are being nationalised, similarly city needs to be nationalised and subsequetly released as a normal club. Sunday is a big day for us to see how much we have actually improve under Rangnick. We have played well against smaller teams but our finishing let us down.
If we can continue playing well and create chances against City it will be a very good testament that we are progressing well. Regardless of results, I want to see us play good proactive football against City.

100% agree with this. Poor finishing as let us down against the smaller teams… we’ve actually been really good at creating chances against the lower teams that sit back. That in it self is progress. However giving city a good game and creating chances against them will determine how far we have come. With previous managers against city we have just sat back and counter attacked. To be winning the big trophies we need to start attacking and taking the game to bigger and better opposition.
Yep, agree too. Pretty much expecting us to lose on Sunday but if we can at least try and take the game to City and create chances it will show a big step in the right direction. I like Rangnick but he was always on a bit of a hiding to nothing for the rest of this season so any improvement is welcome.
Louis Van Gaal actually brought the game to City and even outplayed them in his 1st season.

I like Ragnick. If he could hire a couple additional top technical coaches (not convinced about his #2) then i'd be excited about next season with him as full-time manager.

We are obviously going to be better than the worst teams on the league in most games in any relevant period of time. That's not something increadible, and something we should praise.
Until now he has mediocre results and if we strugle tomorrow he is over.

I see he's done a pre match interview saying United have to face reality and that when he came in, we were 8th in the table. Mate, we had more than half the season left and you've played pretty much all of the bottom 10-15 teams and struggled massively. If he fails to finish top 4, fingers need to be pointed at him too.
Top 4 was a hope not an expectation. A team that is 8th after midseason can't just switch gears to the kind of title winning pace that would see us finish top 4. All the reasons we fell to 8th don't just disappear overnight. Most importantly with Martial and Greenwood gone Ralf inherited a weaker version of the team in 8th position.
Bullshit. We were actually 7th and only 6 points behind top 4. We didn't need to hit title winning form to get it, we just needed to beat the teams we are expected to beat. We have the best squad outside the top 3. It was definitely expected of us to get top 4 when we hired Rangnick and had such an easy fixture list coming up. And regarding the squad, HE decided to loan out our squad players, it was his decision. He's been pretty awful considering the hard sell everyone was given when he was appointed. Somehow this place think he's done a good job in it's desperation to accept mediocrity.
