At last we are not always playing like the smaller team always counter attacking with 6 at the back which is what Ole had us doing. Glad RR wants us to play like what we are, the better team.

We don't have enough players that win the ball back, the only player that we have that does it is Fred(but his passing is atrocious) and maybe Scotty from time to time.
We need more players to win the ball back and Ralf talked about this in his "The coaches voice" lecture.
He said there that Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino weren't naturally a ball winning players when they came to the scum but after working with Klopp and his stuff they improved.
I really hope that Ralf could do the same with Rashford, Bruno and Mason

Agree with the diagnosis. I don't know if the root cause is coaching or player quality (my bet is player quality), but yeah it's way too open through the middle (also considering sloppy passing which puts us at risk in transitions). A true number 6 can help solve that by occupying the right spaces, and I think could be transformative for the team.
Just listened to the post match presser. Journos trying their hardest to make a meal of the Ronaldo substitution. I thought Ralf handled it perfectly and with a smile which indicates it's nothing. We'll see a ton of "reports" this week that Ronaldo and Ralf have fallen out I'm sure.
The first half wasn't good but second was the best we have played under him. Today for the first time I could see what he wants us to do and I feel if he had a top class midfielder we would have been much better.

I am very positive normally, but this game doesn’t show the progress I want to see. Their plan is to park the bus, and hit us on incidents. They failed to capitalize on our messy organization due to lack of enough quality and luck to score. We are miserable. It’s only when Fred is brave enough to lob a pass behind for Elanga to make a breakthrough so that they have to open up the game. Otherwise, they would more than likely to make us suffer. What’s expected to the next game? I hope Ralf prove me wrong about him.

Trying to change a culture that has accepted mediocrity in recent years is going to take time. Patience, everyone.
That second half was a pleasant surprise after one of the worst halves I've seen this season.
Top 4 is honestly a bonus at this point, but I think Rangnick has been making some progress and is more open to criticizing himself in a healthy way.

It's shocking. It's as if people have forgotten we lost 4-1, 4-2, 5-0 prior to him being appointed. We weren't just bad, we were a sorry excuse of a football team.
He is 5-3-1 with 2ppg (also 2 ppg in PL). Under Solskjaer this season, we were 7-3-7 with 1.41 ppg (1.42 ppg in PL). We've been disappointing, but not humiliating. This is while the team is just about as unsettled as ever (Lingard, Pogba, and Martial have more than one foot out the door, Cavani wanted to go to Barca but didn't get his move, etc.).
We have not been great under him, but it's certainly been better. This may be more of a reflection of how poor Ole was considering that RR hasn't exactly had a great managerial career himself. In any case, it was the right decision to bring an interim instead of letting Ole drag on his mess.

This is progress. First half was poor and we still have to work on individual errors. Especially need to work on defending inside the box. But throughout the 90 mins I could see improvement from last couple of games.
Lot to like and has shown quickly he is aware of and willing to address mistakes. Hard to believe it's only been 9 matches - seems like it's been forever. Of course, we could have easily been a couple of goals down by HT and then no way the outcome or performance looks like that so it's just a simple step forward. But any progress is welcome and we know this team can and should be doing much better. Hope it continues
Pretty much. Whatever he said or did at halftime, it had an immediate impact on the way the team played.
One thing I also liked was how he quickly reached out to Ronaldo after the substitution, and it was very visible in the immediate aftermath of Rashford's goal. What that tells me is that he will remain very (and sometimes brutally) honest and yet always keep the door open to have honest conversations. I think Ronaldo will understand that because he has been there in that kind of culture of team's interests above all even though Ronaldo always wants to contribute. Ralf's challenge is to get the same message through to younger players who may not react well.

Agree. We’ve looked a lot more solid and in control. Then a sloppy pass leads to all hell breaking loose. We really do lack intelligence sometimes. Like that time when they broke and everyone was drawn to the ball leaving an almost 3 on 1 with DDG making a save. Being attracted to the ball seems to be a theme. Our players seem to have no understanding of the opposition players around them especially in the penalty box and routinely leave players wide open. And we still have the frustrating thing of wingers and fullbacks just standing there instead of running and taking the defenders with them. But I do see improvements. As I said, the chances we give up are usually due to sloppy mistakes and occasional poor positioning. Much better than before. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a team lose so many goals due to their own mistakes as opposed to brilliant technical play from our opponents. Feel like I could go through every goal this season and put it down to bad error.
Anyways, onwards and upwards. 3 points against the hammers would be a lovely gift to take into the break and give us real hope for the rest of the season, with players more settled after the Jan transfer window.
The pressing is there to see. Rarely you see Bruno pressing like maniac while others just jogging around up-front. It helps with Elanga is some sort of revelation with his workrate.
A good night for Ralf and hopefully this should put some belief in the players for the manager.

These were the worst 1st half performances ever . We were given a footballing lesson in our own back yard by our arch rivals, with Ole sitting their smiling like a little school boy knowing his job was safe. Still disgusts me today how he let that happen.
No I don't think so Ralf effectively put a no go on that by going there, sit down and babysit Ronaldo. Smart move.

It was always going to be so difficult coming in half way through the season and lifting a battered squad that was not only low on confidence but actually low on quality. We still don't have an able midfield and our attackers have been in poor form. People mention Conte having an instant impact, but he has PL experience and I guarantee they will run into a bad patch of form.
Anyway, I hope we back RR, if not this window then the summer window and we listen to his advice and ideas.

Has shown a lot of progress and good signs the past week or so. Changed the 4-2-2-2 formation, have dropped out of form players & “learnt” from the Villa mistake(s).
We really should try and bring in a midfielder this month but doing business in January is difficult.

He's a much better coach than Ole. IMO he's slowly getting to know the players and is adapting his system to players' strengths.

Second point is a combinational play between our fullbacks, CM's, and CB's. There were quite a few situations when we lost the ball in dangerous areas, especially on the right side where Fred and Dalot were playing. And the third point is set-pieces. We are shit at them, in defense and attack.

Agree with this statement. We've stopped conceding at will and are actually scoring goals now, straight from a turnover of possession high up the pitch as well. We're still soft in the middle and the defence still can't handle a cross or throw in into the box but that's on the individuals at his point.
Hopefully these results bring some confidence back into the team and we start playing better now.
PPG is irrelevant all the while we’ve lost the only game we’ve played against a top half team under him.
Unnecessary points dropped at Villa and Newcastle mens we have to win every game until the end of February. After that the fixtures get really ugly.
It goes beyond that. Saying that Pogba will play out of his skin to get a big contract elsewhere.
Then Deading the Ronaldo drama by admitting he made a mistake against Villa and didn’t want to do the same again.
He’s such a great football guy. Time will tell whether his time here transforms us, but he’s doing a lot right.
