The comments on Pogba aren't quite as hard hitting as they are made to sound in that tweet form without the context of the rest of his answer and the question posed to him.

On Paul Pogba again, he is now entering the final few months of his contract, so how much of a role can you play in keeping him at the club? Are you one of these coaches who has the view that, if a player doesn’t want to stay, he is not worth keeping?
''I wouldn’t say not worth keeping but of course, players have to want to play and stay at the club. Also for a big club like Manchester United, if a player does not want to play for a club like this in the long term, I don’t think it makes sense to change his mind. This is such a massive club, with fantastic support from the supporters, I don’t think that anyone in the club would ever need convincing to stay here. But on the other hand let's wait and see, I have spoken with him for 15 minutes over the phone and my feeling is let’s get him back, training with the team, getting him fit and then we will see where we stand. He can be an important player, but I am fully aware of all the other players we have here, I am also a coach of all the other players too. My ambition is of course to make them better and that includes each and every player. This is then only possible by improving the whole performance of the team. It is impossible to develop every single player without the team being successful and also developing the team in a sustainable way.''

Exactly why I've always wondered, why the feck are players allowed to go "on vacation" to dubai and stuff when injured? they should be in the club with the club doctors working on getting their fitness back
Not justifying it but isn't warm weather training suppose to be helpful?

The fact that Pogba is choosing to rehabilitate in Dubai as a new manager comes in while his United career is in the balance says it all for me. And I think it'll say it all for Rangnick as well.

I feel like his brutal honesty is refreshing after some of the PR answers Ole delivered but then we know what snowflakes we have at the club after Mourinho's tenure so who knows how this'll go...

I dont think theyre doing recovery work out in the rain outside. Anything that can be done for a player to recover himself in Dubai Im pretty certain can be done at Manchester as well.

I think he's able to get rid of the ones he doesn't like while waxing lyrical about the big personalities he wants on his side like Ronaldo. I imagine getting Bruno, Maguire and Rashford on his side will be important too.

Why is everyone so adamant he's talking about Pogba? It's Martial who wants to actively leave in January without even bring available for Rangnick yet. Pogba hasn't behaved or said anything of the sort as far as we know.

He's out of contract in 6 months and hasn't signed his new deal, he's likely talking about them both

I think its for both. Warning for other players as well.

He said he wanted out about a year and a half ago.

True. But Pogba was leaning towards staying in the summer, then this disaster of a season happened. It's natural he would assess things. He's apparently been encouraged by Rangnicks arrival though hasn't he?

To be honest he left during Ole tenure and has returned this midweek. But should he have gone to dubai in first place under Ole ? I think Rangnick is more unhappy with management rather than the player as Pogba must have been cleared to go to dubai

fecking hell, just seen his comments on players that don’t want to be at United or are recovering away from the training ground. Where the feck has this line been in the last 8 years. Start turning up or feck off lads, the club is way bigger than you’ll ever be
Great comments. Not only has this kind of stuff been missing since Fergie left, but our fans now also write nonsense such as “United don’t deserve Pogba, he has wasted years at United, Bruno will leave if we are not successful, blah, blah”.
Bloody hell really, whoever wants to leave United we should show them the door immediately.

Every time something positive happens Pogba's camp makes noises he wants to stay, it's a boring cycle now.

Hold your horses boys both mou and lou were pretty tough when it came to player power and that sort of stuff but we all know how that ended

He said he wanted out about a year and a half ago.
Yes. A year & half is an eternity though. The club's been in disarray for most of his time here.

He was very happy in the summer with Ronaldo & Varane's arrivals. I don't think he wanted out then.

All I'm saying is I don't think it's so clear cut. This is his last big money contract, it's only natural he would wait and see how things progress with Rangnick here no?

What I really like about him is that he thinks about the over all development of the football side of the club, as well as taking the lead on the training ground when it comes to coaching the team.

So his comments reflect that and he takes great pride in helping develop the footballing side of the club. He also has a big advantage over the previous managers due to him working as both a Sporting director and head coach.

I actually think it was genuine in the summer. He looked ecstatic at the start of the season. Happiest I've seen him in a long time.

Well see what happens, but if Rangnick wants him, we have success with him, & it's clear we're going places, I don't think it's clear that Pogba goes imo.

Great to read the Pogba comments. It's what most of us want to hear. We shouldn't be killing ourselves trying to persuade anyone to stay that doesn't want to. That attitude will, I assume, mitigate the possibility of us throwing stupid money at new contracts. I also loved his assertion that there should be no more remote treatment of injured players, they should be at the club. This warm weather craic in the middle of the season is bullshit. Away off for a specific procedure, grand, otherwise stay home, be available for a chat, check-ins, whatever.

No bullshit, common sense obvious shit. It's all very refreshing.

Beats me, but If your only criteria is "managed for top clubs like bayern or RM," you will end up with managers who are no longer good enough *cough* Jose/LVG *cough*. There's more criteria than "managed a top club"

how many times has a top manager left a top club while on top? Not often.

That's my point. As fans, we are tactically hindsight 20/20. There are no surefire answers or solutions.

For every Klopp hiring decision, there are more LVGs and Jose's out there.

We are all Monday morning quarterbacks here but some seem to think things/decisions are much more obvious and easy when at the helm. When buying a player or hiring a manager is a crap-shoot -- then there are financial, contractual, manpower limitations or considerations, which will then limit your pool or make choices riskier.

Things are never that obvious and easy. Blaming others is the easiest decision one can make. Making the choices or priorities at work or in life is the toughest.

This guy just screams class and high standards, what a difference from the last 8 years. He's a joy to listen to.

Literally watched all his press conferences like this...

How will it go? For the first time in a long time, there's no audience for diva like behaviour. Ralf has a mandate, clearly, so no by passing the boss I don't think. Fans have no appetite for it. Once he keeps the ship steady results wise, I think anyone who's not buying in will get the heave ho. Everyone knows we're due a clear out.

My understanding is that for long term injuries it allows players to have a change of scenery while also having some down time while recovering from long term injuries. I've read how some lower league players have found it tough dealing with injuries when they are going into the training ground everyday as it's boring, repetitive and also can have them feeling pretty low. It's not the case for everybody but I think there are valid merits for players with long term injuries going away to recover.

It's pretty common at top clubs, Haaland was recently in Spain recovering from his injury. I also recall Sancho spending some time in Dubai when he was injured for Dortmund at the back end of last season and he came back in great form.

The fact that Pogba is choosing to rehabilitate in Dubai as a new manager comes in while his United career is in the balance says it all for me. And I think it'll say it all for Rangnick as well.
He's been there since he was injured early on in the international break, all while Ole was still manager.

Absolutely, painful that some think we’re beholden to the likes of Pogba, and it’s about time the manager reminded them that we have no desire to pander to them flashing their arse to other clubs and running their contract down

The above was the question he answered so yeah it was about Pogba

In todays press conference Ralf declared to the world what is man UTD and how we should act..I really wish we got this guy back in 2013/14 time atleast as a DOF.

In Ralf's own words

  1. If a player doesn’t want to play for club like @ManUtd, doesn't make sense to convince him to change his mind. This is such massive club, with fantastic support, I don’t think anyone at the club should try to convince a player to stay
  2. Rangnick on Paul Pogba recovering in Dubai: "My former clubs were always trying to make sure the rehab should take place in the club itself. As far as I can tell, the medical department is really good, very good, with many different approaches towards rehab.
  3. Rangnick says in future players recuperating from longer-term injuries will do so at United, not away from the club or overseas

It's common in some clubs, not in all top clubs. I remember Neymar doing it every year going to Brasil for the festival, sorry I mean to recover.

But I don't recall any Madrid or Bayern player doing it for example. I may be wrong though.

This is the first time he has openly talked in anything but positive terms about an individual. Paul can't be Mr popular in the camp, he is finished at United.
He wasn't slating Pogba at all though. Additionally, he's not even met Pogba yet. Why would he be trashing someone he's only spoken to on the phone once?

That's correct. It helps to actually either watch the full press conference or read the transcript. Not the selected half bits.

He was in Dubai before that and is coming back because of that? He's supposed to be meeting Rangnick this weekend in person.
