This prick on Sky regarding the header crossing the line:

"Should Rafael be a better sportsman there and show some honesty?"

How the feck can Rafael know if that's over the line or not you fecking nob??

And then he said:

"Anderson doesn't move that much"

Erm... what the flying feck?

Who said that?! Please don't say Tyler?

He said Gary Cahill could be a striker in the first half the tool

He's been incredible this season. His spirit, fighting heart and consistant, brilliant performance (defending and attacking) is a joy to watch. Let's make him captain for a game, just to have a taste

Concerns of fatigue for the Arsenal match perhaps, Smalling might need to be used as a sub if he's ready. Or Sir Alex could opt Valencia at right back i suppose.

Great performance from Rafael tonight, getting better and looking more assured with every game. Kept battling until the end and wears his heart on his sleeve. Brilliant attitude.

Brilliant tonight, outshone both of Chelsea fullbacks by far. Living up to all the hype and then some.

Imagine he will be withdrawn after 60/70 mins on Saturday. Shows just what a run in the side can do though. He's been one of our best players all season.

That was one hell of a performance. He was playing like he was the 30-odd year old in the team when really there's not much different in age between him and the likes of Macheda, Keane etc.

Always had faith in him that he'll become one of the best fullbacks in the world, and I never stopped saying it. Even when people were losing patience with him (he's 22 ffs), saying shit like he's been here 3 years and shown no signs of improvement. I'd like to hear from those people now. Always said that once he got a run of games going he would show his quality. Been up there with RVP as our best player this season so far.

Quite comfortably our best player tonight.

He's on the course of becoming something very special. A string of very good performances this season. Win or lose.

Jones has been mentioned as a possible captain for the future, but I think that Rafael has the potential too. A very good player, a hard worker, never die attitude, big spirit and he is also showing signs of a leader.

The tackle back on sturridge showed just what a player he is.

Like the previous poster he could be a future captain, i love his fight and determination, proper little bulldog.

I wouldn't mind him becoming captain, though what is his english like?

Hopefully he get a good rest in before the weekend as he hasn't been rested for a game in a while.

His English is coming along nicely if you listen to his interviews, but I'm sure he's far down the pecking order for captain. Steady on there.

Knock on wood, it seems the growing pains/constant niggles are finally behind him.

Stats!
101 games started for club & country since joining us.
2008/9 - 2010/11: 63 starts, completed 90mins 37 times (59%).
2011/12 -> : 38 starts, completed 90mins 31 times (82%).

In his 18 starts this season he's only been subbed off in 2 of them. This includes a summer of playing every 3 days in all of Brazil's Olympic fixtures.

I think it was Daniel Harris who said the test will be when Smalling & Jones return (and whether Fergie's tempted to occasionally put them in for their 'height'), but at the moment it looks like Rafael's deservedly got that RB position nailed down. Great again tonight.

I do hope he doesn't, Rafael leaps like a salmon anyway.

He is 22 years old, so I don't think that he must have a rest. Anyway, not against Arsenal. Against Braga, if Smalling becomes available then it could be.

This kid is amazing.I'm trying hard not to be caught in his justified hype but I'm looking like an idiot in doing so.Rafael has matured impressively

No way. The boy has great energy and enthusiasm. The one frustration with him has been that he's missed games at regular interals thanks to injury. Let him play and keep up his form, I say.

He was class yesterday. And given Büttner's performance, wouldn't mind seeing Raf out on the left occasionally.

I'm not thinking in the next couple of years. More when the current crop of existing players have left and he is still hopefully with us along with the other youngsters we still have.

Didn't mean for him to miss the game. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet for it. Just need to let him rest up prior to the game so he is fully ready for it.

Why does everyone think Jones will be a future captain? Rafael has all the tools and proved it on the pitch

I hope he doesn't get rotated too much when Jones and Smalling come back. He should be starting most games the way he's playing right now.

I think he was immense last night. The only criticism I have of him is that when he defends crosses from open play from the United left, he goes in too close to the CB to help out the CB with the striker and leaves the winger on his side open and gets caught out if a late run is made behind him.

Yes there are times when he has to help the CB but on many occasion its 2 of our CB against one striker and yet he gets in too close to help out leaving his winger open for a volley or a header.
