Radja Nainggolan

Not convinced he's at the level we should be aspiring to reach.

Agreed, not convinced. Good player, but his character is questionable, I wouldn't spend big money.

There is a reason if at 26 yo, he is owned by Cagliari and have few caps for Belgium.

My point wasn't to make a compelling case for why we ought to purchase him over more qualified targets; my point was to indicate that he does have a compelling up-side to his game which would suit a fast and physical league.
Ignore me i'm just being facetious, I very rarely have anything to contribute so I just do this instead :D

Ah, well....... I'm sold.

;)
Awesome, we make a good team, we should fight crime together. Not serious crime though, maybe just parking violations in north Norfolk or something?

His character is questionable? If anything, he's the sort of player you can be sure of he's going to give his all on the pitch.

He's just a late bloomer, that's the only reason he has so few caps for Belgium - I think he was like 23 when he had his first full Serie A season under his belt. He would improve any midfield in the Premier League right now bar Chelsea's, I'd be pissed if he goes to United, he's a proper beast. Great defensively, composed on the ball, a lot of energy and stamina, good long range passing and scores regularly for a midfielder. Can play at the 6 and the 8 as well. He could be a key player in your team for the next five years or so, and would be a better signing than Gundogan, Strootman or Vidal imo.

I have to concur, if MUFC are in the market for a box to box midfielder, there are few better in Europe than Nainggolan at the moment.

The Stroot and Vidal are still in the process of recovering from serious injuries and Vidal just does not the same this year.

Vidal has been in immense form lately...

He is 27 years old. If we are still debating whether he is good enough I do not want him at that age.

What is wrong with 27 year old?
Is he too old?
Two reasons i mentioned it. Several posts in this thread suggesting he is 26.

The other is the general division about his quality. At that age I would want an established top player with our current situation.

He is an established player and would be a great addition imo.

Some people think he's not good enough, some think he is, its like that in forums. I think he's more than good enough. :)

Great, although, when you say "fight" crime, do you mean apprehend, in the old Batman and Robin sense, or completely obliterate with gratuitous gore, as in The Punisher?

I prefer the latter but I'm willing to compromise for the former if Bauer-esque interrogation can be used

Isn't Allan a DM, when Nainggolan is a box to box?

Allan is probably better as a box-to-box midfielder, but has been playing as a defensive midfielder for Udinese. Towards the end of the season he was playing more regularly as a box-to-box. Not really sure why Stramaccioni felt he needed him more as the deepest midfielder. Maybe, because he's defensively a beast and also keeps the ball well. His other qualities get restricted though. He's a very good dribbler for example. @fontaine made a comment about how weird it is to see Allan play as a defensive midfielder, if I remember it correctly.

Thanks, I hear a lot about him but never saw him.

I think he should have changed clubs before last season. He was very good the season before and the last season started quite well for Udinese, but somehow it went completely wrong in the second half of the season. He still continued to be their best player. Apparently he's joining Napoli, which I'm not sure is enough of a step-up or the right team.

From the video in the OP, he looks like a Van Gaal kinda player - Doesn't lose the ball easily, wins back the ball quickly, has pace, a good passing range, some nice finishes there too and looks mentally tough. What about his injury record? If he's cheap, we should definitely get the dude. He's only 26, so would be good for us in the next few seasons after he takes the usual time to bed into the Premier League and LvG's philosophy this season.

what makes you say his character is questionable? if anything he's got great character. I've never seen or heard anything about him. Roma signed him permanently last summer so he's no longer owned by Cagliari. How is how many caps a player have telling of how good/how much he's worth? He's a late bloomer, well I've thought he's a very good player for years and I've been wanting us to sign him since long before Roma got him, but he only started to get recognition since he joined Roma which is understandable I guess as the majority of football fans will not watch Cagliari games.

If we fail to get Schneiderlin I think he would be a very good option.

He is owned by both Roma and Cagliari.

Shame, he would have been a great box to box option if we screw the pooch with Schneiderlin.

admittedly I've not seen much of him so I can't really say. Just recall seeing his name linked with United (who hasn't been) and thought I'd post and update

The guy broke two tibias in a space of 6 months..

I'm all for him getting suspended.. why do a flying tackle from behind like that? Just pull his shirt or something. But if you bite someone you get life sentence..

Who got injured?

There is a thread in the football forum.

The bite reference is a bad comparison.

Tackling is common in football, biting isn't. You can't prove a player deliberately went out to break someone's leg. Biting someone is irrefutable proof that it was intentional.

That's a couple of bad tackles from him now, he needs someone to have a word with him. It's not on.

A word with him? he could have ended two careers, two legged tackles are ridiculous, should be straight reds and suspensions imo

Get over it, it was a bad challenge and nothing more. He wins challenges like that all the time, I suggest you watch the Cyprus-Belgium game from ten days ago when he won the ball exactly like that countless times.

Sure, if he wants to be a gung ho tackler, I'm fine with it. But if he breaks someones tibia, he should be out for the same amount of time.

Take your chances, that's the perfect incentive structure for me.
