It then should not be depicted as a 4-3-3 though. It's understandable why the 4-3-3 looks more tempting than the below formation, but that is just trying to get the best of both worlds rather than accurate depiction of the team.
naa, I wouldn’t sell it as such (double pivot). I picked him exactly to play him as a holder with Robbie adding steel to the midfield and doing a lot of heavy lifting in the defensive phase.
IMO Alonso is very capable of shielding the back four but as I mentioned it’s just another type of player compared to Cerezo. He lacks the physicality but has the positional sense and awareness to make it work.
his ability to spray passes from deep was also a focal point of the initial game plan hence I chose him. But in double pivot and if he’s to carry the ball forward I’d go with different midfielder than him. As @Gio mentioned Khedira’s game wasn’t too dissimilar than a typical B2B player next to him.
