Qanon

Looking at the crosstabs: https://docs.cdn.yougov.com/77ukszgou2/20201019_yahoo_tabs.pdf
  • 15% of Republican voters think QAnon is true,
  • 16% think it's an extremist conspiracy theory with no basis in fact
  • 22% believe some of it but think it goes to far
  • 47% don't know
  • Only 48% of Republicans have actually heard of QAnon.

Edit: Also, does Bill count as a top Democrat? Because he's been on a fair few flights with his pal Brian Jeffrey (sorry Brian) and has a record of not keeping his dick in his pants. Can certainly see 50% of Republicans entertaining a less than sympathetic view of his copious aerial jaunts.

16% very likely didn’t understand the question.

How are these guys taking the inevitable demise of their president?

claiming Trump watched National Treasure and marked all the ballots with an invisible mark so that he could lure all democrats into a trap and arrest them all.

Well 2 were arrested earlier today after driving to Philadelphia from Virginia with AR-15s after police were tipped off about a plot to "possibly attack the convention centre" where votes are being counted - so seemingly pretty well!

Great stuff.

"Convention Centre... put centre IN the middle of convention... con-in-vention.... CON INVENTION... that's what they're doing!!!!!"

Something like that. The darlings.

Also, a man some of them believe is JFK Jr, why I don't know, is an election observer in Pennsylvania at the minute. Think that might cause some of them to implode.

Got a Facebook friend from America who is completely into QAnon. Yesterday he was posting about having a civil war and today he is no longer on Facebook. I won't be surprised if he ends up on the news trying to take over the nearest government building.

I just started to read about this yesterday after ignoring it ever since I heard about it, how can so many people be so batshit crazy?

They started reading about it.
And then read about it some more. And more until they started believing bits and pieces - until they get so entrenched in the lies everything starts to make sense. PBS /HBO/Netflix have some good docs about conspiracy theories and especially the influence of social media on people's state of minds and thoughts towards politics that are both revealing and terrifying.

Found them to be quiet recently.
They could deflect & parry any criticism before, they would just make up another crumble or something to keep the cult looking at the new shiny object.

With Trump gone, their whole foundation is shaken to the core.

No doubt they’re just spinning new yarns, but these are tough to do now when everything they espoused as substance has disintegrated.

The fun part about a good conspiracy theory is that it always works. Fitting or vaguely fitting stuff confirms the theory, everything else confirms the conspiracy aspect. (They're in on it too!) So basically once you're in, there's really no reason to get out. (Until you find your brains back.)

Sudden thought just occurred, the emergence of Q as a ridiculous over the top conspiracy theory has pretty much ensured that any discussion of child abuse by the powerful can be easily batted away by painting it as Q Anon nonsense. Yet as we know thanks to Epstein (and a number of cases in the UK involving past celebrities and politicians, there have certainly been child abuse rings involving very powerful people, and strong rumours regarding people at the very top of the political world being involved in such horrible deeds.

So could Q have been deliberately created as a propaganda tool to deflect justified discussion and investigation? If someone now talks about this stuff publicly, isn't it almost certainly going to get laughed at and the people discussing it called crazy conspiracy kooks? It wouldn't be the first time this approach has been taken.
