PSG vs Man Utd | Build-up Thread | Return leg Wednesday 06.03

Cavani isn’t mobile? His movement is outstanding.
Yeah, stopped debating with him after that post. He has some of the best movement in football, probably just second to Cristiano (and a peak Falcao).

Nonsense on both counts

Juve didn't care on the night, & you still needed two late goals (one of which was a sloppy corner if I remember right) to win. They didn't get out of second gear & they almost took a win/draw. The Mata FK was quality, though.

Perhaps an exaggeration on the Spurs point, but you can bet that both Mbappe & Cavani will do better than Spurs did that night.

You play more attacking now, & you'll leave space for the opponents to score because of it. I'm expecting goals for both teams in both games against PSG, with the tie being decided by which forwards are playing better on the night.

Poor attitude and poor finishing isn't luck on our end though is it. Lucky would be to score a goal that was offside or something

Fair point.

I think it'll be close. You have the better midfield, they have the edge going forward & Silva is my spirit animal in defence. Going for something like 3-1 2-2 on aggregate to... I've no idea. I just think there will be goals.

I'm sad he's injured tbh. I wanted to see us go against him. Football is all about clash of big giants/best players! Neymar vs Lindelof.......... feck me on second thought, that could have gone really bad...... and imagine Neymar vs Bailey. He'd be injured again!

Neither of those are nowhere near as good as Cavani's. Lacazzete scored 113 goals in 4 seasons, Cavani scored 145 in four seasons while having to share goals with Ibra, Mbappe and Neymar (he was #2 or #3 option for them).

He also proved himself in Italy, when he scored 3 times in a row over 30 goals (including a 38 goal season), in a quite defensive league. Even in European competitions, he is quite good, 48 goals in 77 matches.

It reminds me of doubts that EPL would be too hard for Ibra (who btw was 4-5 years older than Cavani). Then he came and scored 28 goals while getting injured in March.

Cavani is absolute quality, and has proven himself in multiple clubs in addition to NT.
Aye. Clearly the Ligue Un numbers sit within their own context, but his record everywhere has been top class. His three seasons at Napoli were outstanding, his European record is solid enough and he has a strong track record for his country which he reinforced in the summer. He had a wobble when he had to play off the left next to Ibrahimovic and lost some of his confidence, but his performance level either side of that has been as good as any classic centre-forward bar probably his national team-mate.

As much as I am glad Neymar wont be able to play a part I do feel for him, hope the thuggish farmers and shitty ligue 1 refs dont ruin his career.

then perhaps he should stop trying to showboat as much? He holds the ball on for so long and invites the pressure upon himself. It isn't even purely showboating, more just a style of holding onto the ball for just way too long. Perhaps if he was more interested in the idea of pass and move he wouldnt be subject to so many tackles.

And honestly his foot prob has more stress from his unnecessary barrel rolls after slight contact than the actual challenges.

Thats rubbish. Defencers kick out because he's too good. Some of it is not intentional but some of it is.
All the top players get kicked around. It's not their fault they became so good.

The art of reversing roles

Maybe he shouldn't be so good and make it easier for defenders so that they don't have to resort to fouling. Yep, makes a lot of sense.

wow i am amazed that all 3 replies were just so far off the point. I was referring to Neymars style of holding on to the ball so damn long and allowing defenders to close him down for him to try and beat them with a skill move. Perhaps if he would find his space and then pass the ball along to move without the ball, players wouldnt be able to be as physical with him? Instead he is similar to what pogba/matic were under mou. Hold the ball, hold, hold holddddddddd- allowing player to get in to him. But he doesnt have the size/physicality of Matic/Pogba to deal with the physicality that is coming. But hey guys, keep on missing the point.

Is Verratti out too? Without Neymar and him we've got a great chance
It's sad that we need other teams top players to be out to have a chance.

Hopefully that won't be the case moving forward (in coming srasons)

Yeah it sucks but thats where we're at. I still think we still have a chance with a fully fit PSG, just no where near as good as I'd like!

Yeah we would have a chance but we would be massive underdogs. Seems as though we are going in the right direction. Clubs decisions in the summer are the biggest they've had to make in some time.

Pogba is part of our attack, he's at the heart of everything we do going forward. That's why he has the freedom to get forward after all.
If you would swap Pogba / Martial / Rashford / Lingard / Sanchez and Lukaku for Mbappe / Cavani / Di Maria and Draxler then you're insane.
Thats batshit crazy and your application for DOF is denied.
All the arguments made about progressive, modern football applies to here as well.
IMO most top managers would choose on form Rashford over Cavani for what he brings to a side.
He influences the style of a side more than Cavani does. More fluidity though the middle.

Wow, you are living in a bubble if you really think most managers would pick Rashford over Cavani. Absolutely insane take. Mbappe alone would make a swap for Sanchez/Lukaku/Lingard worth it.

Cavani in the air is the easily the biggest concern. On the ground we have defenders that can match Mbappes pace - Bailly in particular but in the air it's going to be tough. We lack the commanding aerial dominant CB .
Kane was dealt with. Rondon was dealt with. This lack of aerial power, in the United squad, is incredibly overstated.

Yep

So Basically he hasnt played a club game on his sisters birthday since 2015?!
Is he really getting himself injured and suspended? It just seems too much of a coincidence

Why is it when De Gea has a world class performance we are lucky or jammy? Isn’t that why he’s there?

How many times have Messi and Ronaldo bailed out their retrospective clubs but it’s never lucky it’s just their world class. De Gea didn’t have the game of his life against Spurs, if anything Spurs couldn’t finish.

As for Juventus. The game at Old Trafford was pretty tight, the game at the Allianz they had 3 good chances and that was about it.

More like lucky that the Spurs players wanted to hit it right at him rather than to either side. Like I said, I expect the likes of Mbappe & Cavani to do better. I did correct myself in the post you're quoting.

Juve were through & cruising, while for you it was a massive night. If it were a knockout game, it could've gone a lot differently, and that's the big difference between that night in Turin vs a knockout tie versus PSG - Both teams will be going all out this time, not just one team.

It should be a great match.
