PSG vs Man Utd | Build-up Thread | Return leg Wednesday 06.03

The advantage is clearly on our side now... we will beat them on both legs.

Hope Neymar recovers fast... would be a shame not to be beat them at full force, last time in Feb 2018 he was out for 15 matches, ˜80 days.

Behave! Odds to qualify
Manchester United 12/5
Paris Saint-Germain2/5

All I know is that I don't want anything to do with Phil Jones vs. Mbappe.

The midfield battle is going to be the key. If we can win that and feed the likes of Martail & Rashford plus get Pogba forward to support, we will definitely hurt them and have a good chance of getting a good result.

My only major concern is the defence. Jones vs Mbappe just gives me the shivers! De Gea will also need to be at his very best like he was at Wembley 2 weeks ago.

I posted my predicted lineup 2 pages ago:

Draxler is the most natural replacement for Neymar. Marquinhos, Di Maria, Draxler, Alves can potentially play in midfield, some sources also mention 2 possible recruits in midfield.
Has Marquinhos moved back to CB now? I thought he was playing as a DM hybrid with Kinpembe at CB.

I think our best chance is to fly at them in the first 20 minutes at OT. They didn't handle Liverpool doing that to them so well at Anfield.
If we can come away with a lead of any description from the first game, they'll be obliged to attack in the return and that might open things up for us on the counter.
We are clearly underdogs, but if Rabiot, Verrati and Neymar don't play, then if we play to our absolute best we'll have a decent chance.

They will probably line up like this

Buffon
Meunier - Kimpembe - Silva - Bernat
Alves - Paredes - Verratti - Di Maria
Mbappe - Cavani

Marquinhos has to play CB at the moment since Kimpembe is injured. We'll see what happens when the full squad is available.

Our German coach sometimes like he idea of an hybrid tactical system with Marquinhos as a libero: CB when the team is under pressure and a DM when the team plays higher in the same game.

I guesss he's a fan of Matthias Sammer :)

I see Alves playing on the wing or midfield in many games for PSG. It's the exact opposite of what Young and Valencia have done for us. How is doing in that role?

Well I’m going to the first leg and I have a great record watching United live. :D

Verratti and Neymar out would significantly even up the match. I'd say that takes us from almost no chance of winning to a good chance of winning.

I think our defence can handle Cavani and Herrera could handle Mbappe. Snub those out and we could be in for the win.

I'd be interested to hear from any of our French caftards on what the correct way to stop Mbappe is? It must have been done a few times at least, so what's the approach to take?

Regardless if Neymar is out there's still a nightmare looming in the shape of Mbappe and Cavani against Jones and Lindelof

So true - although I am hoping we have Smalling back by then. I feel so much better after recent run and you never know. PSG have bottled before in this competition so there is always a chance.

The only way to stop people like that is:

1. Don't let their midifeld/defence have all the time in the world to pick a pass. Rush them into making a poorly guided ball which will give the defender a chance to get to it.

2. Stay extra tight when he drops deep. You need to be on his touch ASAP so that he can't get turned and running at you.

3. Have a 2nd man close by ready to tackle. Chances are he will beat the first man with his skill/pace, but the 2nd man has a good chance to tackle him as he rides the first.

4. If he is trying to run in behind, either 1 defender needs to block his acceleration attempt for the other to sweep, or drop off completely and give yourself a head start. None of our CB's will beat him in a foot race but Lindelof/Bailly could do a good attempt.

It obviously depends what position he's playing also, if he's on the RW he could be easier to contain. Shaw is pretty pacey himself but Mbappe's movement could cause him problems.

For the first time, I'm starting to believe we might at least have a chance.

So is it a disadvantage to play away the last game? Makes no difference? Imagine Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leading United on a beautiful European night in Paris. If we manage to pull through...

What do you predict the starting XI to be, @BBRBB; @Ecstatic ?

With or without Verratti.

As you can see, even the press is unable to predict the starting 11 for tonight and the positioning for some players.

Sounds like he'll miss OT but be back in time for the return leg in Paris. We really need to keep a clean sheet at home.
