Paris Saint-Germain chairman Francis Graille said he had rebuffed an approach from Manchester United for Ronaldinho.

United have been linked with the Brazilian World Cup winner for several weeks.

And PSG have confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to sign the 23-year-old, who cost them £16 million two years ago.

'I turned down a meeting with Manchester United officials two weeks ago,' Graille said.

'I am in frequent touch with Ronaldinho's agent and brother Roberto Assis and we will not make any further statement until the end of the month. There's nothing new.'

But though Graille rejected one advance, Paris Saint-Germain are expected to find a second approach, after the French Cup final, harder to refuse.

Despite having the 22-year-old midfielder, Paris Saint-Germain failed to qualify for the Champions League.

I'd put my money on us signing him. United might just make an offer that PSG can't resist.

One more thing - can someone tell me once and for all, is he a midfielder or a striker?? :)

This is where being extrorted out of 30m for Rio last summer is hurting us now. They know we want him and want to rape us for as much cash as possible. That's my theory at least. ;)

look 10m is a teeny weenie for a world class forward like Ronaldinho but you are right Raul we will suffer from that

I agree - United seems to always pay over the top for players - case of an inability to hold the cards close to the heart. ;)

the PSG chairman is a feckin bastard..
i believe he turn down our offer last few season as well..
it's so obvious that ronnie wanat to move away from the club oredi..he's wasting our time man..

I've told you all before - we only paid £10m for Rio

The other £20m was money owed from the Eric Cantona deal

;)

Nah - £10 mil was for Leeds to beat Arsenal at Highbury, thus handing us the EPL Title! ;)

How long have we been after Ronaldinho, if at all? MAYBE since last summer. Maybe.

Anyhow, they have a big cup final against Auxerre at the end of the month which I think is also their only way to Europe. Well done to him for thinking about his club's success first. He shouldn't be going around selling players before the season is actually over.

He did not say he'll never talk, just not until the end of the month. fair enough.

If they bought the guy for 16 mil, at least they want to make a profit and they won't probably take anything less than 20 mil.

Not in today's climate - a £20m player 2 years ago is only worth £10m now

cant wait for next season to start man..
if we manage to get ronnie + a good GK + experienced defender..we will be feckin strong!!!

imagine veron, ronnie, giggs, scholes, keano, ruud, becks...playin together..a mixture of brazilian, agentinian + british skills..AWESOME!

Now how are we suppose to fit those 7 into 6 midfield+forward places?

i mean we have a variety of "talent" to choose from!!!
if one is uneffective against the opposition..we have diff player with diff ability to use..aren't that great???

yeah..but look at the potential..cool ya

I'd rather we just made the one big signing a season like Real.

We should try to snatch Del Piero from Juve like Real did with Zidane.

Lord knows how many times i've said it but this man is everything we are looking for ability wise.

He can play as a striker in 4-4-2, or a link man in 4-5-1, hes fast as feck, good headerer of the ball, can take free kicks, penalties, great passing vision, bags of flair and great movement.

His only problem is that he's a bit of a party boy but whether fergie can iron that out no body knows. Another risk is that he may or may not fit into the premiership, i reckon he would as he doesnt need that much space to work (a la seba), but even if he doesnt fit in the premiership, hed certainly un-lock many many defences in the champions league with his trickery alone.

for 10 million itd be an absolute steal and we cant let him go elsewhere, anyone who says they dont want him is off their rocker.

Has anyone actually seen Ronaldinho on a consistent basis? For instance, is he really more effective than Scholes?

If signing Ronaldinho would put us through the same problems we had when Seba first arrived (ie Scholes struggled, played out of position) then i'd say no thanks.

How to? you have to ask the french. I don't think any other country show the french league on a consistent basis.
:p

....but we've played our best football with Giggs behind Ruud... and Ginger in midfield.

Technically I think Scholes is in the deeper position but he and Giggs exchange roles. Either way, i'm not sure Ronaldinho is right for us - what do you think?

not this again....

coz he's passed it.

I've seen him play a zilliooooon times over the last few years..and its plain to see he's not the great player he was in his first two seasons. I think he's not fully recovered from his first injury... he's deffo lost pace, and now struggles to pass players like he used to.. I know he played well against Real...but he still looked a shadow of his former self.

Sometimes I wonder if people on here actually watch football.

I like giggs in that role... but we'd be silly not to buy a 22 year old, with bags of talent.

Ginger has been starting on the left and drifting into the centre.....but heh, thats total football for you. ;)

Well if signing Ronaldinho means unsettling Scholes again we should steer well clear imo. Scholes has found the best form of his career, i'd hate to see that broken up. I dont know - i'm glad it's Sir Alex making these decisions not me.

Dont be naive. Giggs is first and foremost a left midfield player. Scholes and Ronaldinho play in similar positions to my knowledge.

Giggs is best role is CF.

I've noticed that he's not missed games since SAF gave him that role. He doesn't need to track back as much.

Ginger is not a link player... he's a world class midfielder..

The fact that we've inquired for Ron proves that SAF is looking for a link player... If he thought Scholes was perfect for that role, he wouldn't look to spend millions on a withdrawn forward.

Ruud..

....Ronny/Giggs

Scholes...Keane...Seba...Becks/Ole.

.....or

Giggs..Keane...Ginger...Ole/Becks.

Like I said, we don't stick to rigid formations, all those players will exchange roles.
