PSG | 2017-18 Performance Thread | Tuchel becomes coach on a two-year deal

No, but Conte has won it in tougher leagues, which means he has proven his mettle in terms of being competitive and tactically shrewd. Whereas with Emery, the EL is not usually a high calibre competition.
EL was still too tough for Conte. He is the only linked coach I really don't want in Paris, I don't rate his achievements very highly.

League and Cup competition can be very different. Can use one to gauge another one. Ancelotti is one of the best CL manager yet his league record is terrible. Conte is doing the opposite with his record in European competition is underwhelming to say the least.

Hey PSG! Mou is available - for a small fee of a million pounds.

I do think Mourinhos will still be at United next season, but I wouldn't completely rule this out. If they wanted him badly enough, I think he'd go.

Tuchel is already pretty much confirmed. Chance they might offer Wenger a management position

It's more or less confirmed that Tuchel will be their new manager. Every German and French source are reporting it.

Ornstein already said Tuchel was going to PSG

Tuchel and Neymar, that should be interensting. Football wise it can be a great match, character wise, not so much.

Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti, Massimo Allegri. Wenger is available. Conte might be at the end of the season. All these managers have at least won something.

Wenger currently isn’t a better option then Tuchel.

They have had Ancelotti before.

They want somebody at the club to evolve the club and create a identity then Tuchel is the guy. At the moment PSG don’t have any identity. It’s just a mis match of players. Hiring coaches like Ancelotti won’t improve that. Potchetinno hasn’t won anything either. Is he going to be a bad option too?

I have no doubt that if Tuchel was at Juve, Bayern or even Barca that they’d have won the league under him.

Trying not repeat what @Bojan11 said but:
- Wenger. Really? He is done since like 2013/2014. If even Arsenal push him out, no way the PSG is going with him. They do want the CL and Arsene don't reach the 1/4 for ages so... no way

- Enrique. Well at least he would have Neymar but his career doesn't limit to 2015. Before there was Roma and Celta were he was bad to average. And then there was the 2 seasons where he lost poorly against Atletico and Juve at the 1/4. Plus he is not tactically amazing

- Ancelotti. The old generation. His last season at the Real and his story with Bayern may have lower a little bit the credits he had.

- Allegri? Conte ? They don't want some poor, chilly football. Definetely too defensive coachs. Plus Conte isn't a cup specialist. I can already see Neymar and Cavani, alone, and all the rest of the team fighting to conserve a 2-1 against Lyon with 30 min left. M'Bappe already replaced by Meunier.

Well, after saying that, It seems like Tuchel is a better option than all of them. Plus the most important: He is actually the closest person to Guardiola's style.

It's not all about winning especially when you don't have the privilege to work for Barcelona, Juventus or Bayern. And Tuchel actually won something

I don't see him renewing after those 2 years. For me, PSG are still nowhere near where their owners think they deserve to be and Tuchel isn't going to deliver instant success. I can see them parting ways after the 2yrs expires.

2 years is too low for a contract. It seems they don't have full trust in him, like they're signing him on the thinking that may be another top manager will be available in the upcoming years so they can get rid of him as they please.

Next season rest of the world is going to take PSG more seriously, they are no joke, they want UCL so badly. To be honest I'm glad they signed Tuchel for 2 years because I was impressed by his footballing and would want him as our next manager, if he wins UCL and battering everyone the likes of City, Barca, Bayern, Liverpool and Madrid then we should go out all for him to secure his services in 2020 when Jose is leaving.

2 years is appropriate for a manager IMO. Gives the club enough space to move on from them if they aren’t doing well enough, while 1.5 seasons is enough to judge if they’re doing a job worth renewing them for.

I think it is a project, from both sides. If it works, he will get a new contract. If not, both will be happy to go different ways.

I think Tuchel is happy to work with some top players and having this opportunity with a nice salary. For PSG, no better coach was available and it is time they bring in a coach with strong principles and identity to play the game. They needed a new manager, so i think currently it is a good decision

Should have been at least 3 years imo.

Will look forward to what he'll do with them in CL next season anyway.

Why? He is only a head coach, it's not like United where the entire club is supposed to be on the manager's shoulders.

Tuchel is a man who works on a team basis and does not need individual stars to make his team play better, he'd be better off without Neymar if it means improving the team ethic. PSG should probably sell Neymar for large sum and use their money to improve their squad, starting with their GK.

To show a full trust in him, not like he's under experiment for one year before getting the sack or not.

I have a hard time seeing him bring them the Champions League win. The attack hasn't been the reason they haven't won it and it's not like Tuchel has much experience with winning trophies or being the favorite.

2 years huh... They'll be able to easily part ways after just 1 season if he doesn't work out.

Who could afford to buy Neymar for 200m? Real?

Shame Wenger never got the gig. Would have been a perfect fit...and an opportunity to get him back in that winning groove again. I could have seen him going all the way in the Champions league with PSG...much to the chagrin of the Gooners.

I get that but realistically it changes nothing. Blanc signed an extension and was out the following month, Emery had a 2+1 contract too, the +1 being linked to performances.

Well, if they're fine with that ok, it's not my problem after all but I believe if they were trusting his project that much, they would have went with some longer contract, but it looks like they're keeping all their cards alive so that they can appoint someone else in one or 2 years from now if it doesn't work. It's Nasser after all.

Let's see what he'll do with them in CL.
