Omg, just discovered how easy it is to stream movies from computer to PS3 without a HDMI cable... perfect image. I don't even know how I did it, is it via bluetooth?

PS3 > life

Did you just discover PS3 media server, too?

I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic bit of kit.

EDIT having seen your edit, are you using Windows Media Player?

C'mon spill the beans.

I've not yet discovered this
Download PS3 Media Server to your laptop/desktop. Enable media server connection on your PS3.

Your PS3 will now pick up all of your movies, pics and music without using any cables.

A pc icon will show up under movies/music/photos on the PS3 cross menu. Just click on it and all of your shit will eventually appear.

My PS3 typically takes a few minutes to pick up my laptop, so don't worry if the icon doesn't appear immediately.

You can play pretty much everything that VLC will, as far as I know.

I tried TVersity but I couldn't get the bastard to work.

I didn't use any media player at all I think.. i just put it in a map.. looked in the video section on PS3 and the map was there.. but I have that media server program they mentioned though. Didn't think PS3 could play .avi files, fecking epic

AVI is a wrapper, it's what inside it that counts, but the PS3 has always understood that wrapper, and is DivX certified. In any case, it's interesting here that you are not streaming anything at all, yet the whole thread thought that you were.

Don't try to play a .mkv on the PS3, will not work, just a bit of advice.

I downloaded a bluray movie and converted it to a wmp I think, the video was working fine but the audios was just noise, completely messed up. where did I go wrong?

OMG this is epic. So can I use my laptop to do other things while it streams an avi-file in the background, or does it stream what's currently on the screen?

Can it play un-extracted rar-files too, like VLC can?
You can use your laptop to do whatever you want while you watch an avi file on your PS3. It's like all of your movies, music, etc, are actually stored on your console. You just have to have your laptop switched on.

Weaste can explain it better than me.

do I have to have both my ps3 and pc connected to the internet?

Tversity never worked well for me probably because my router's about 6 years old now. Hope this will work.

I don't honestly know. Mine are just in "My Music" folder.

Found a free converter the other day for .mkv files MKV2VOB, which is handy seeing i am using Tversity like you are. It doesn't take long to convert the files either to something the PS3 can see.

After quite some time using it, TVersity for me performs better for playing anything that does not need a transcode. There are certain instances however when I'll use PS3M server.

The only problem with TVersity is the number of pop ups. I have firefox and even that doesn't block the pop ups. Is it a common problem?

.mkv actually works, but they are stuttering on my PS3, maybe because I have a shit CPU because im on wired connection with good bandwidth.

I'm having problems with HD files with fast moving images.. when that happens my video playback will stutter. I have left all my settings to default, and my computer specs is:

AMD Athlon X4 quad core
4GB RAM
Nvidia 260GTX

Since my computer is still quite new I suspect it's got something to do with the transcoding options, such as downloading new codecs etc. Or it could be my old router, but that seems unlikely now. What should I download and/or do? Any advice?

P.S. Cheers Lance, you sensitive prick. ;)

Are you streaming trough wirelss to the ps3? Then you'll get some problems streaming 720/1080p quality. I'd whack whatever you'r watching onto an external hard drive or a memory stick and connect that to the ps3.

Nice, I just tried it out and it works great. The only thing is it's sometimes a bit jerky, the sound especially. But it only happened for a few minutes into the beginning of the movie, later on it was flawless. PS3 is the mother!

I can't get it to work. I'm using a Mac with a Sky broadband router. There doesn't seem to be anywhere in the router menu to enable/disable Upnp. I don't want to turn the firewall off and I'm not sure what to do so I might just leave it.
