Preseason Tour Game 6: Bayern v Man Utd (Friendly, Sunday 05 August 19:15 BST)

If we won't sign a winger there's no point in playing this formation. Either play 5-3-2 or we really have to sign a RW.

Agreed. Mata and Sanchez offer the square root of f-all as the two wide men - neither of them are capable of dribbling the ball up the pitch to threaten the opposition full-backs and relieve the pressure on the defence.

CB in no way looks a priority for this team.

RW and LB.

Even if we had two Ronald Koeman's at CB, we still have the issue that we have two banks of four are packed in like sardines a matter of 10 yards away from those CB's. The options to pass to are mostly overwhelmed by numerical superiority even if we manage to find a man on the left or right. The inability to transition from defence to offensive in numbers is what creates the isolation and ultimately, ball loss, and recirculation for the opposition team right back into our half.

In our own half we have the numerical superiority. And ball playing CB's can step into CM to create space for other players, it's why every elite team has them and why Mourinho is so desperate to get one in after the failure of Lindelof. Pogba/Fred/Sanchez give us the ability to transition, a ball playing CB is a necessity.

Anyone else keep seeing a paper airplane randomly popping up from time to time?

:wenger:

Lol this is said after every game, nothing will change!

City missed 2/3 of their midfield and absolutely walked all over Chelsea, you can’t just rely on 2/3 players to make our break your game plan.
Eh? What you mean like the basic attacking spine of our team (main CDM, CM, ST)? Of course you fecking can.

That’s not saying much, as Chelsea were absolute toilet. Looked like playing a man light with Barkley.

Amateur hour on MUTV

It always is to be honest.

I don't have a subscription these days, but watch it every now and again, and the overall quality of the production and punditry leaves a lot to be desired.

Listening to Paddy Crerand is hard work too.

David May coming across like one of those guys in the pub that has had a skin full and falls asleep mid sentence

I know he's a *CL winner but he shouldn't be the senior man out of these two, Webber is more articulate.

Bailly is such a promising player but constantly in the wars. Very frustrating.

Gnabry is the German Sterling.

Bailly, going for the record. Can't recall a player going down so much in pre-season. Twice or thrice every game so far if I'm not mistaken.

And the defensive injury merry go round continues. Wish we could bin them all and start again.

We're cursed. Every decent centre back we have turns to mush.

Then we'll hear "wait till end of the season". What about after? Wait till end of next summer window?
Well, if we're in contention for trophies why wouldn't we wait to see if we actually win them?

Jose looking happy out there. Is he grumpy only when attending press conferences?

Not watching it.

We're not parking the bus in a friendly again, are we?
It's not a friendly. It's part of our preseason preparations. It might be that Mourinho feels that given most of his midfield and attack aren't back yet, concentrating on defence is what's needed. It may be that this is what we should expect for the season ahead. We won't know until we start playing competitive matches.
