Premier League Hall of Fame

Absolutely gobsmacked a United player hasn't been chosen first on this, we've won the Premier league 13 times!!!

Cantona or Keane. Has to be one or the other because Giggs can't be inducted clearly.

If it was a public vote, you've had so many possible candidates that you've probably split the vote amongst Giggs, Cantona, Scholes and Fred.

Henry is head and shoulders above all the other Arsenal players and Shearer is clearly the best not to play for a big side (so probably had a lot of the neutrals votes,).

It was supposed to be Giggs and Shearer. That's been the two names touted for at least a decade as who will be going in first. The most decorated and the leading scorer, both played on the first day of the Premiership etc. But you simply cant be Ryan Giggs in at the minute. The charges hanging above him makes it impossible. Henry's the perfect second choice.

As if a United player didn’t feature first. Giggs has more PL medals than all other candidates combined.

Or Rooney? Our top goalscorer and second top PL goalscorer. Bag of titles too.

Bias aside, the fact a United player isn’t one of the first ones inducted into this despite winning 13 fecking PL’s renders this whole hall of fame a joke.

Are people really complaining that Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry are the first two inductees into a hall of fame.

I mean we're talking the record goal scorer and one of the best players to ever play in the league... not David Dunn and Paul Konchesky.

I get wanting a United player in there (which will obviously happen in time) but come on, Shearer and Henry obviously deserve it.

Because he was playing for a team which was better than who Shearer or Henry played for.

Why the shock and horror about non-United players getting in first

The should just keep adding players who never played for Man United just to send the fans mental.

Yes! And build it up as though it's finally going to be a Utd player, really send us mad.

"This dark haired Welshman dominated midfields from the very inauguration of the PL..."

Ladies and gentlemen, Gary Speed!

For players, I still don't think it should have been Shearer and Henry, it can't be Giggs either for obvious reasons.

Them two might have been World Class and scored so many goals with Shearer being the top scorer in PL history and Henry having a record of 4 PL Golden Boots but Shearer only won 1 PL title and Henry only won 2.

10 Man United players have won double or more than both combined. Only 2 players have won more than 10, Giggs and Scholes. So for that, Scholes should have been picked first over one of the two selected.

Yeah why is Henry ahead of like at least five other PL players?

Great player, had what two great seasons? And he's first on the hall of fame? Nah not for me.

Expect Lampard followed by Gerrard next.
Going to start off with the clean honest pro's.

Shearer was always going to be a banker.

Not sure why Henry is there, would love to know the criteria for it.

Cole, Aguero, Rooney or Lampard should be in over Henry. Scored more goals and won more titles.

To be eligible for the 2021 Premier League Hall of Fame, players must have been retired by 1 August 2020 to be considered for induction. Only a player’s Premier League career is considered in their candidacy, not their performances in other competitions during the Premier League era.

Players must have made a minimum of 250 Premier League appearances unless they have achieved any of the following milestones:

  • Made a minimum of 200 Premier League appearances for one Club
  • Been selected to any of the Premier League Team of the Decade or 20-Year Anniversary teams
  • Won a Premier League Golden Boot or Golden Glove
  • Been voted as Premier League Player of the Season
  • Won three Premier League titles
  • Scored 100 Premier League goals or recorded 100 Premier League clean sheets (GK only)

I imagine that Henry was brought in instead of Giggs following the charges.

Wouldn't be angry if they put Speed in. Just maybe not among the first 10.

Find it weird that a) it's seemingly only open to players, and b) seemingly open to fan votes.

I get drip feeding inductees, but Henry does seem a bit of an odd choice for the first round, especially with them only announcing two people. Not one of the top five all time scorers, and fewer appearances than Phil Bardsley. Obviously a brilliant player who would have made it in eventually, but just find it a bit bizarre he's one of the first.

Ideally they'd have had two categories for induction (managers and players), with the things like teams as a special category not added to every year.

Based on that Cole and Lampard should still be in way before Henry. He was good, no doubt about it. But for me, a player with 2 premier league medals should not get in ahead of players who played more, scored more and won it more.

First name that came to mind was Cantona. Shearer as well but wouldn't be surprised to see Henry.

Scholes has more league titles than Shearer, Viera and Henry combined. He should be ahead of them, Viera at least. Gerrard didn't even win it, so don't know why you would include him ahead of Scholes and loads of others actually.
It was just a spontaneous post. I didn't give it much thought. And yes Scholes should be there I agree.

I’m pretty sure Henry would win a best ever PL player poll, so it’s hardly a shocking inclusion.

He's not eligible at the moment.

He retired in Jan 2021.
Ok. Thanks for the reply.

Nonsense! He's never really been more that just overhyped by fanbase.

You won't become a full member any time soon with preposterous comments like this.

In the first 5 seasons of the Premier League, Cantona won 4 out of 5 Premier League titles whilst being the best player at the club and in the league for that whole period.

How does Henry (two titles) get in ahead of Keano (seven titles)? What a load of garbage - is the hall of fame sponsored by the Super League?

Sun Jihai.

He's in the English Football Hall of Fame so surely he makes just the Premier League one. Still pisses me off that. The government leaned on them to induct him to coincide with a visit to the UK from Xi Jinpeng for diplomacy reasons and they agreed even though he was shit.
I'm not sure the government had any input there to be honest. It was more a case of the old Museum management trying to curry favour with China hoping to get some investment out of them.

Instead Jihai joins the ranks of Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini in the 'shameless pandering' section of their Hall of fame.
