Sanchez has been an absolute disaster today. That just about sums up his match.
 
He didn't give Spurs a foul on the halfway line for a push in the back but now it's a fecking penalty in the last minute of a London derby. fecking standards, eh?

Dunno, didn't see it. I'd be interested to hear. Because the rules state the exact opposite of what people here are saying.

Just looked it up and I was right, that is the explanation.

So if a player in an offside position is fouled before he even attempts to play the ball then the foul is given. However, if a player is already attempting to play the ball (or challenge an opponent) when the foul occurs then the offside is given instead.
