Premier League 12/2/25 - 16/2/25

Tonight gives Arsenal a sniff of a chance to be honest. Liverpool away at Villa, City and home to Newcastle at the end of the month, could drop a couple of points and if Arsenal can overcome Forest it could get interesting.
Arsenal took 37 points from their last 14 games last season. This season that would have them on 87 points. I wonder if that would be enough for the title. Definitely a possibility that Liverpool drop more than 12 points. They’ve dropped 10 in their last 14, so would only take a minor wobble if Arsenal finish as strongly as they did last year. Then when you consider that Liverpool finished very wobbly last year.

Still, I don’t see Arsenal finishing as strongly as last season.

If Liverpool had held on tonight, I think Arsenal would have mentally given up but there's a definite chance for them now. Liverpool have been dropping plenty of points and they'll definitely drop in atleast one of the Villa, City, and Newcastle games. Arsenal, if they don't lose Saliba and Gabriel and continue somehow get wins, I think Liverpool can definitely fold.

I'm obviously biased and I hate Liverpool but yeah I really don't think they're anything special this season.

They remind me of the Utd title winners in 2011 and especially 2013. Carried along by 2 or 3 exceptional players while the rest of the league isn't very impressive.

If they win the PL then of course they'll deserve it but I don't think they have a squad set up to compete long term. It's a big ask for them to replace Salah and VVD if they go.

Yeah Man. United 2011 is a good shout. You seemed to hardly win an away game for months that season but won pretty much every game at Old Trafford and it was enough for a reasonable comfortable win from experienced group who knew how to do it.

Liverpool remind me a bit more of AC Milan in 2007. That side that won the CL wasn't their best that decade by a mile but they had an experienced core that was kept together and benefited when others fell away. However that was the last hurrah and Milan declined badly in the years after.

To have any chance Arsenal have to win at Anfield. Draw isn't cutting it this season.

Odd game, not many chances and don't think Liverpool created much other than goals and than shot in last minute of first half (Szoboszlai). Also Salah shot towards the end. Everton's best chance when Doucoure was all alone and had that header. Glad for Everton (not just because it was vs Liverpool) to get a result in the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Liverpool fans will be gutted but it's still 1 point gained as it was game in hand (and they often draw at Everton). On the other hand, it does give Arsenal bit of hope.

Next 5 games:

Liverpool - Wolves (H), Villa (A), City (A), Newcastle (H), Southampton (H).
Arsenal - Leicester (A), West Ham (H), Forest (A), United (A), Chelsea (H).

Think Villa away and Newcastle at home could be tricky for Liverpool. City are too poor defensively so wouldn't bet on them stopping Liverpool. Arsenal have decent set of fixtures with Forest away being most difficult. We're awful at Old Trafford so would suffer against them as well, and Chelsea aren't that great. Arsenal have to grind our results before Saka and Martinelli are back.

Virg is so salty,he needs to cop on. Every interview he does he mouths about other teams if it doesn't go his way in game. Keano called him on it few yrs back, prat. Be humble. Also how is virg always beside the ref...he even told the ref he hadn't control of the game...dalot gets two yellows in 5 seconds but virg can give him live rating.

Aww van Dijk and McManaman whining about Michael Oliver's performance. I'm sure Slot will be the same.

Getting their little digs in on the referees to get even more decision in games.

We can finish on a maximum of 99 now I believe. Arsenal can finish on 92.

Actually it's not possible for both teams to finish on those totals because we play each other at Anfield. I think both teams will drop points. This isn't a year where a side goes on a crazy run.

Yeah fair. I don’t think that Arsenal will go on a crazy run but they are now experienced in title races. The key to a title race is the run in and they realised that last season after running out of gas the year before (obviously they still came up short but came very close). Liverpool have always seemed to stutter Feb onwards, remember their only ever PL title happened when they were about 20 points clear in February.

If Arsenal do find form it will be very interesting, but I think their problems are deeper and not comparable to serial title winners who linger before hitting form in the final 3 months. They will continue to drop points as you say.

Liverpool assistant manager also sent off apparently.

The tea lady might have to take charge at the weekend.

Oliver so inept they weren't even proper red cards.

Said it a couple weeks ago. Michael Oliver will have a say in this title race, same as he did last year with many of the City decisions.

Liverpool need to just keep their heads down and do their thing because this guy is a few crazy ref decisions from putting Arsenal in or as I suspect letting City back in.

If they had a fit and functioning front line, I'd be concerned. They'll beat Leicester and West Ham with what they have, but going to Forest and Old Trafford seems a bit much. I don't think they've won more than three games in a row all season either.

Really depends how we do in the next few games too. Wolves we should be ok with, but then Villa, City and Newcastle (first two away) in 8 days. Big ask to win all of them.

I see the Liverpool fans are having a collective meltdown about the referee. Imagine if they had to put up with some of the decisions other teams have had to put up with over the course of the season.

Just realised your fixtures are actually fairly easy. You've got a lot of easy home games left with the likes of Southampton, Wolves, Palace, Spurs, Everton, and so on to come to Anfield. If you can survive the Villa and City games, you should be fine. If not, it'll get a bit tricky.

Yeah I mean if you assume we win all of the home games apart from Arsenal (lets call that a draw), that's 22 points which takes us to 79.

After that, it depends how many points we get from these away games:

Villa
City
Fulham
Leicester
Chelsea
Brighton

Three wins and a draw puts us on 89 which would mean Arsenal would need maximum points from their remaining fixtures (assuming they draw at Anfield).

Jones looks a bit of a knob here tbh. God knows what he’d have done if Doucore went full Adebayor

Even from the away games, only Villa is really difficult. I genuinely did think Arsenal stand a chance but I also believed Liverpool have tougher fixtures left. Clearly not.

Many season ago Man United and Arsenal got points deducted for their poor behaviour on the field tonight was a lot worse so what we reckon at least 7 points deducted for Liverpool?
