A part of me wants to sign Aguero for a year just to piss them off. Put some scoring against City bonuses in his contract while we're at it.

Totally agree. Would cost too much, but Sancho and Rice and we're a totally different proposition, and finally in a position that could potentially challenge towards the top end of European club football.
If we dont get Haaland, I think Sancho + another year with Cavani is acceptable.
Greenwood or Martial as our main strikers with Sancho feeding them chances should be good enough.
With Rashford hopefully fit those will make a quite prolific front 3 . Martial surely cannot be as bad next season.
And the season after I'd wager Greenwood will be our no1.

Kane Is world class, but will be 28 in a couple of months, we will likely have to spend upwards of 150m to get him in and will only have him for a couple of seasons before he's into his 30s and beginning to decline.
We do desperately need a striker though.
In a very poor Arsenal side and being played out of position though. Depends how much we’d have to pay but worth a punt IMO.
Regarding ASM, maybe more 30-40mil then. Spurs bought Sissoko for 35mil last time they went down and he’ll desperately want out.

Not as an out and out striker. Whenever he plays there he spends all his time outside the box, the lad is a great footballer but nothing about his game says his instincts are to be inside the box. If we play greenwood as a false 9/firmino style player and build around our wide players getting goals that might be the answer

Tough one for Ole, the way we play isn't that conducive to a #9 as we don't create chances with build up, it's more individual moments.
Nah. He's too similar to Martial. Loads of talent but questionable application.
I actually think Danny Ings would be a really good signing if we can't get someone like Haaland.
I think outside of Haaland and Mbappe the problem is the majority of the quality strikers are all ageing ones. Forgetting the fee, even at 28, to me Kane I think is right at the point he is passing his peak, picking up more niggling injuries now and really doesnt justify the spend.
The obvious choice is Calvert-Lewin. He is a proper striker and actually I think under rate at linking up the play from the front......but, what kind of fee is he likely to fetch, as still think it could be quite astronomical.
I would like to throw out a name I first did a good 2/3years ago as a totally different option.....
Amine Gouiri - Watched him in youth football a few seasons ago for France and he looked exceptional, th enext best thing to me. SAdly he suffered a big injury at Lyon and then coming back after a good year out was unable to break thorugh with the likes of Depay and Dembele ahead of him. But this season at Nice he has emerged again and is putting in superb performances. Technically excellent, fast and a very good finisher. No idea of fees butt I think he is one of the few top young strikers (still only 21) that we could get for a fee of £30m or less which is an absolute bargain potentially.
The downside.....He has mainly been playing from out on the left it appears the few times I have seen him, so he seems to be getting developed at Nice not as an out an out striker which is maybe what we need as lets face it Martial and Rashford have been similar, we have a few young youth playes breaking through who you could put in similar roles. Also personally I am not sure Greenwood is an out and out striker, as great a finisher as he is, I see him more as a floater behind the striker, which is being witheld with Fernandes playing there of course. But in his early days he was played up front Giouri. Even if we do sign for example a Calvert-Lewin, I think with potentially Mata, Lingard, Martial and Cavani all leaving, the versatiloity Giouri offers for competition all across the front three and even as cover for Fernandes, he offers a great cheaper alternative to the likes of Sancho, Grealish and Haaland as quite obviously we wont be signing all three if any of those players

You’re gonna sign Icardi and it will be a beautiful mess.

Last year of his contract, good age, you’d get him for 12-15m, potential to improve and if he doesn’t we’d get him at a fee we could sell him at a profit if a big talent becomes available. I’m on board.
Better than Haaland in the league, so that's for sure. Again 1 goal and 2 assists today against the (until today) best defense of the league (Wolfsburg). But it will be very expensive to get players from Frankfurt this window - the fact that they will reach the CL guarantees them a lot of money they did not expect, so they will not be forced to sell anyone due to their financial situation.
Maybe it would make more sense to get Jovic from Real Madrid (currently on loan at Frankfurt), he is also again improving his form a lot. And he would not be the first player to fail at Real and still become great for another top team.

Would Calvert-Lewin be unrealistic?
I know Everton have Ancelotti and are rich. But surely the player is now at CL level and should want to make a jump soon. I think he'd do really well here

Martinez would be unreal.
Ings for me. Will be in the final year of his contract and he's Prem-proven with a decent all-round game. He would be someone to supplement and challenge Martial and we can groom Greenwood for the position in the long-term.
Maybe Lautaro Martinez and Ivan Toney (as a total wildcard), if we're looking beyond the Premier league. DCL would also be an option but I think his price tag would be far too much.

I think both Ings and Augero are sensible ideas. Aguero is still desperate to win the CL which may not make us a great choice but he's motivated and thinks hes got a few good years left at the highest level. Also he wouldnt need to uproot his family.

Danny Ings is an insteresting player, proven in PL and with a contract expiring, a no brainer.
Only down side is his Liverpool past, which eventhough was short is no small deal.

I think Ings Liverpool past is so massively insignificant I'm surprised its mentioned really. He barely played, most people rightfully forget he was ever there. Probably won nothing. It certainly wouldn't stop us making the move or him joining us I think.
Dany Ings people? Really. Apart from one good season last season he averages around 10 goals or less for the last 5 seasons or so. This year he is back to his normal level. There is a reason Liverpool got rid. Maybe if we have no cash and he is 20 mill just for an extra body ok but he has been a failure for years. Why does everyone keep saying proven? Proven failure.....Or maybe Im missing something

Agree with this. I can't think of a single moment he had for them.
I could be wrong but I don't think anyone is expecting him to come in and be Ruud. I just think its that because Cavani has, on a few occasions, definitely not all of his starts, shown the value to our side and how we play by having a more traditional target man. That taken with the fact that Martial has been such a disappointment as a target man this year we are looking for affordable, realistic options that could come in and replace Cavani. Then we can splash the cash on other positions.
yeah I’m inclined to agree but if someone said Cavani to me this time last year I would have said the same thing. I’m just wondering when are the stop gap strikers solutions going to end? Are we going to commit to a young expensive player there at any stage or is this all just playing the waiting game for Greenwood to step up?
In theory it makes sense if we sort out the other areas that need addressing, and truly believe in Greenwood and our other strikers coming through. We just can't afford to solve all our issues in one summer, especially not this one.
Cavani is one of the greatest goal scorers over the last what 10 plus years. He was in the elite bracket of strikers. He was free. Even then he was a last minute gamble by us. Dany Ings is a proven failure and not free. Aguero I can see the comparisons with but the problem with him is that he is a City player. He will never join.
I wouldn’t mind Ings or any other stopgap option if it meant Ole gave the likes of Hugil or even McNeill a run out in the cups/minutes at the end of games and some game time if there’s an injury crisis. He seems to be determined not to rotate too aggressively at any point this season. I guess earlier in the year in the cups is the time for that
