Potential full back signings

I’d take Wan-Bissaka. Young will most likely stay as a back up. We also have Shaw & Dalot with two young exciting fullbacks coming through in O’Connor & Laird
 
How about we just give Dalot a chance and put in some effort into developing him rather than just going out and signing another young RB? How is Dalot going 'to be ready' if he's not playing? It is not ideal to have two young and developing players for the same position. It will only stunt the development of both players.
 
Real Madrid spent 30 million on Coentrao when they had Marcelo. And 35 million on Danilo when they had Carvajal. Dalot has been good so far but, not "let us not buy a RB again" good. If Dalot is the real deal he should be able to handle tough competition.
 
What about Rafael? He knows United inside out, he's an attacking FB and he'll be a free agent next summer. He probably wouldn't mind to come to OT for a year or two as cover/competition for Dalot.

Id rather see us spend the money on a RW and a CB TBH.

O'Connor and Laird are still too young and we'll need an experienced head to cover for Dalot. So I was wondering why not go for Rafael. He's 28, he loves United, he knows the club and he'll be a free agent next summer.

I think most of us would love Rafael back at the club, based on his time here. But how has he played over the past 3/4 years? Doesn’t appear that he’s developed into the player we hoped he would be - otherwise bigger clubs would be looking at him. Anyone consistently seen him play over the past few years?

It all depends whether the manager believes in dalot. If he doesn't rate him as a future star then we should sign the best in the market. If he rates him then dalot needs to plays on a near week in week out basis so someone like rafael could be an option. He knows united, he wouldn't mind the bench, he's on free so we can invest the money on what we need and he's got the right characteristics we need for a RB. Covers are rarely WC. For example Juventus seems set to sign darmian

But have you actually seen him play? Or are we suggesting Rafael could be an option due to nostalgia? His career could have nose dived for all I know as I’ve not seen him play for 4 years.

I was never on the Rafael = star brigade in the first place. He always had flaws in his game and i wouldn't want him as a first teamer. However i think he could do the job as a reserve. Id rather have him then seeing us spending some.30m on a reserve

If you think we are going to challenge for the title by keep on signing players, then good luck to you. Looks like most of the United fans are yet to learn anything.

I want us to make signings for sure, first find a CM that can control the game. Then we can talk about challenging for title.

That's actually an interesting idea.

IF Rafa's injuries have cleared up, and IF his form has been fairly decent, and IF we're confident that Dalot will be the answer and he just needs time, then Rafael could be a way to help bridge that gap. A lot of 'ifs', but it might be an option.

I doubt it though, as I suspect we'll be looking more for someone who'll walk into the first team.

Next year we'll probably need to spend big in at least 2 positions (CB and RW) while concurrently strengthening, LB, RB and possibly DM. This will be a problem especially if we do not manage to make it to the CL which will of course have a hit on our finances. Not to forget that we might also need to pay big ££££ to release the manager or/and DOF we want.

The RB is in a bit of a pickle. Valencia's legs are gone, Young is declining fast and Darmian looks set to leave. Which means we only have Dalot + a couple of very promising youngsters (O'Connor and Laird). Which makes me wonder, if we truly believe in Dalot and those youngsters then why not go for someone on the cheap, who wouldn't mind staying on the bench and would give us 2-3 decent years? Rafael is an option
 
Dalot has'nt had a chance to show what he can do yet but his potential looks immense, Shaw still blows hot and cold but also has huge potential, the problem for me is getting the right balance of competition, experience and cover, we can't gamble with 4 young players who may come good, so for me I think Dalot needs to play second fiddle (for now) to an experienced player (Thomas Meunier) while a versatile LB (Lucas Hernädez) could rotate with Shaw at LB as well as getting games at LCB and even LWB.

This is a thread on fullbacks. How is a CM relevant? And we are not limited to one signing a summer we can sign a CM and fullbacks. Also you mention signing players wont make us challenge for a title but then want to sign a CM? Make up your mind. And of course strengthening where we need to will help us challenge. People on here think Dalot and Shaw can play every game. One injury and we are back to Young or Valencia. Players like Laird aren't first team quality. We need instant quality.

I’d be curious to see how Denzel Dumfries improves in the next year - he might be an interesting option?

by 2020 we do need two new fullbacks given that Darmian has had a foot out the door and Young and Valencia will be deep into their 30s - I'd be shocked if Valencia sees next season

I think we need a left back where Shaw will be the backup - I don't know what the general consensus is but I'm not overly impressed by Shaw. He's been alright - has defended ok without being great, hasn't really done anything from an attacking point of view has he?

it's very early but I like the attacking instincts of Dalot - will be interesting to see how he develops

I think we need to aim higher. I was really impressed at how good the Juve fullbacks were at Old Trafford this season
 
I like the look of the French RB at the world cup, benjamin Pavard. Is he available?

Very raw at the moment but looks to have decent potential.

IIRC, he's off to Bayern in the summer. Bought and loaned back to his current club for the remainder of the season.

Mitchell was superb last season but he has been dreadful this season. Dropped recently as a result.

LB: 1. Tierney. 2. Shaw.
RB: 1. Meunier. 2. Dalot.
 
My problem with buying from some big clubs is that you help them in regards to FFP and they can possibly steal one of our transfer targets. For example, de Ligt. Buying from those big clubs means you might give them the funds to push them into getting a player that we are in need of.

From the youth side, we have two fullbacks in O'Connor and Laird who are pretty good. Probably two of our better fullback youth products in some time.
 
I really like Wan-Bissaka at Palace. Have him and Dalot fight it out for RB. At LB, I've faith in Shaw as first choice. Promote Mitchell or Borthwick-Jackson (or both) as competition. Thought CBJ looked great when first introduced by LVG

No way Tierney is behind Shaw. While Shaw is very solid defensively, the offensive part of his game leaves much to be desired. Unless we play against top teams(where we would like to counter attack and be more defensive) then Tierney would start. Personally i rate Tierney above Robertson in many areas. Better on the ball, dribling, faster and more agile.

No way? Mate you do realize Tierney is playing in a shitty league against shitty opposition? He'll likely need time to adjust to the PL. Also, Shaw has shown he can be very dangerous in attack. It's the reason he broke his leg. Wasn't allowed to do it under Mourinho but I think under Solskjaer his attacking game will improve.
 
If it was up to me next season we'd have:

RB: Dalot and Ban-Wissaka or Munier
LB: Shaw and Tierney

In reality I expect we'll have Dalot, Shaw, Young and maybe a new RB or Laird might be promoted.
 
If PSG are willing to sell Meunier, we should be all over this deal! If we don’t get him, Wan-Bissaka is the player I want for RB.
