Not a great performance. I'd normally say fair enough with that many young players on the pitch but thought they gave a good account of themselves and it was more senior players i was disappointed by.
Lingard and Wan Bisakka cant complain if they dont get near the team next week, weak performances. Matic as a cb didn't really work, no harm with the experiment, just hope its not repeated. Mata was ok in midfield, not that i'd want to try it outside of a dead rubber or desperation. Henderson going long and giving the ball away over and over was pissing me off, being quick off the line was good but was playing it quite risky on occasion, trying too hard to impress.
Thought Amad was raw but very promising, looks quite special. Mengi was very impressive in his brief time on the pitch.
Decent enough performances from Greenwood, Bailly and VDB

A game of two halves. Amad was very involved in the first 45, some good, some bad but always present. Did very poor to not get a shot on goal the first time we came alone against the keeper. The hesitation allowed the defender to close. Poor pass to Lingard that spoiled the attack. Not afraid to take people on and challenge. So overall a good showing against a decent european side. You wouldnt expect a flawless game anyway.

AWB has lost all semblence of form and confidence.

Based on the last half Young Boys probably deserved a win here. Can't take that much from this game regardless outside of individual impressions, this is the reserve squad after all.

Does Donny ultimately have a future or is he off after christmas?

Incredibly happy for Tom Heaton to make his debut. Such a joyus moment for him. Loved hearing Robbie introduce Charlie, he must have barely been able to speak calmly.

AWB looks like a velociraptor wearing roller blades when attempting to football.

Ralf wont be dropping Dalot anytime soon.

Greenwood and baily were good, greenwoods link up play and pressing look much improved. The were either average or utter rubbish. There also a huge issue with fitness and motivation to press after 30 mins again. I feel we need to sack the fitness and nutrional coaches because i just cant see how this team can gas out after half an hour when the top teams are sustaining it for the majority of 90 mins.

I always used to be confused how wan bissaka wasnt getting into the england team, now I know why. Touch was heavy often at time, misplaced passes, tackling was off and worst of all his position on the pitch was awful. You can't also blame lack of game time/sharpness either as before the last couple of matches he was playing every week.

I really loved this game yeah they were rash inexperienced etc etc but in the age of commercialized and soulless football there's is something really wholesome about playing the young lads on the biggest stage out there

Also the ref was wank

The people whinging this much about a CL group dead rubber.

We've had much stronger teams than this get battered by the likes of Maccabi Haifa in these types of games.

Terrible performance from Young Boys to be fair. They should have scored 2-3 at the end when we had no control of the game at all. But they couldn't.

I enjoyed the game for what it was-a glorified friendly. We created some decent chances which better players would've finished. Rangnick's influence is clear to see and it's good seeing fringe players put together some semblance of a performance in the first half. The second half was pretty bad but we held on.

From our young attackers no one really stood out as first team material yet. They need time to get used to the physicality of the men's game and this should be valuable experience. Amad had flashes and Elanga should've done better but they should be used as subs for now. Mengi was decent.

Feels weird putting Greenwood in the senior player section but that's what he is now. He was fantastic today and deserves to play alongside Ronaldo as his overall game is much better than Rashford at the moment. Bailly was also immense but we all know he'll probably screw up next game.

None of the other squad players impressed really. VdB was tidy with the ball and aggressive in his challenges, but was to blame for conceding the goal. AWB still can't attack. Matic had an atrocious second half. But the one who disappointed me the most was Lingard. Maybe he is finally ready to move on but he was careless today.

Good runout for the boys, entire first team rested, more time to assess for the new manager. All in all a good night, but I expect a lot better from the first team against Norwich.

That second half was a struggle. We learnt that Matic, Lingard and Mata are nowhere near it and DVB is not a holding midfielder. AWB is a shambles and has a struggle to get his place back.

Amad showed glimpses, enough to know there's a real player in there. Elanga is not a target man. Not one for the scrapbook.

Great to see youngsters having a run, on other side, Mata, Lingard, Matic, AWB Christ almighty, how they trying to keep one, extended contracts to other two and dunno Spiderman went to next level of low.

I think it was incredibly hard for them. An entirely new system that they’ve learnt over five days, a team that hasn’t played together so no partnerships and the rain was absolutely bucketing it down.

This was not a great way to spend 2 hours of life but seeing those youngsters make debuts for United, at Old Trafford, in the Champions League, is amazing and surely an experience they'll remember for rest of their lives.

Greenwood and Bailly were good. This kinda reminds me of that United-Leicester game back in May, Greenwood scored back then as well and bunch of youngsters were given a chance.

1-1 is solid results given the team we played. Norwich next.

Terrible performance from Young Boys to be fair. They should have scored 2-3 at the end when we had no control of the game at all. But they couldn't.
we also should have been up 3-0 in the first 30 minutes plus the Elanga sitter....some bright spots like the return of Shaw and the youth kids getting a chance

shocking though from the senior players....matic, lingard, mata and AWB were shocking to say the least

Donny at least could pass a ball and actually wanted to get on the ball. He just had to defend the entire middle of the pitch by himself

Mostly forgettable if not for the number of youngster debuts and Greenwood's fantastic volley for the goal.

But it should've gave Rangnick a solid idea on who to keep in the team and who to bin.

Even though CAF was sulking I quite enjoyed the game. Not for the result but we got to see some nice debuts and youngsters get some game time. A lot of players today hardly played this season so was good for them to get some minutes as we go into Christmas busy schedule.
Shoretire, Mengi, Amad all looked quite comfortable out there.
Baily and Greenwood were clearly above the rest in performance.
Matic, Mata and Lingard will not be missed when they leave.
The Matchday thread was an absolute disgrace to be honest, but that's to be expected. The entitled, spoiled, whiny nature of our forum fans is really something to behold, particularly when its in its full toxic swing. You'd have thought we had prime Rooney-Ronaldo-Park etc playing given what they seemed to expect, all the while we had a few players making their -competitive debut-, Matic playing at CB, Juan Mata as a 6, and an inexperienced Amad and Elanga trying their best to impress, all in front of some seriously weird refereeing.

Greenwood MOTM, some players we knew were good had ok games, nobody bar Mengi and maybe some moments from Amad was particularly impressive, but it was pleasing to see Charlie Savage out there if only to hear Robbie well up. Matic had a poor game and almost lost us the game by himself, unfortunately.

AWB not good enough. I think it is time for a younger RB, not Kieran Trippier to replace him.

Lingard looks uninterested, he needs to be sold.

Best moment of the game was Robbie introducing his son. What a proud moment.
Sorted it for you.

Good to clearly see what our options are both for us and Rangnick. Kids largely look miles away bar a couple. Greenwood, Bailly and VdB (feckup aside, in that order) can challenge first teamers, not the rest.

A lot of work to be done.

Edit: D'oh, Shaw of course. Play to the bloody whistle though!

Very sloppy game but a great opportunity for the youth to get their chances. I'm slightly annoyed that we didn't get that goal on the 3 v 2 counterattack where Elanga(?) attempted to square it to Lingard.

Obviously treated as a throw away game by the management but disappointed we drew, we had the opportunities to get the winner but didn't take them. Some nice touches from Amad and nice cameo from Mata but not much to write home about, as expected in a dead rubber... we started the game top and ended it top, no matter what!

Mengi recovered well from a slip but his positioning is even worse than AWB's. Another one destined for the bench of a championship team.

Writing off a whole career based on a right footed centre half being asked to do a job at left back for half an hour.

Fecking hell.

Bailly MOTM. Greenwood also played his way into contention. Henderson wasn't bad.
A lot of young players got minutes in a dead CL game, which is about the Fergiest thing we've done since June 2013 - good for Amad, Elanga, Shoretire, Mengi, Iqbal and some bloke named Savage to get a chance.
Feel-good moment for Heaton.

We didnt lose. Did you watch the whole game?

Outside Bailly and greenwood, nobody there suggested they should be playing on Saturday/more regularly. Thought mengi did decently considering where he was playing, good recoveries whilst playing in what I assume is a fairly unfamiliar position for him.

ETA: Even Savage let me down in commentary, expected more from him when his son came on!

Must have been a record today. Never seen so many teenagers in a European game for one team.

Even though CAF was sulking I quite enjoyed the game.
Exactly. I actually found that it was much more enjoyable than the vast majority of matches under ole with a full starting 11.

As with Sunday, and as to be expected when a team goes from walking to sprinting, the first half was good and things died down in the second half. As we play more matches can expect the intensity to last longer until over time it reaches 90 minutes.

Should have been 2-3 up by half time, but could easily have lost the second half.

Wan Bissaka and Lingard had absolute mares.

Of the youngsters, Elanga looked the poorest. Poor attempt when he was one on one as well.

Should have buried them in first half, but a mistake and a wonder goal later, the game turned on it’s head. 2nd half, their big strong men battered our smaller players, having said that, Mata and Lingard didn’t do themselves any favours.

Kind of expected result considering it was an 11 cobbled together and a little unbalanced too.

Great game to watch. Brilliant from Rangnick. Invaluable experience for those young players and what a great motivator...new boss...real chances.

No team is going to look solid with Matic at Centre half and Donny and Mata holding the midfield- but we survived 90 minutes, saw some really good talent coming through, rested our first team, saw enough of Amad and Elanga to know when and where they could be used, saw enough of Jesse to confirm Amad and Elanga should be taking his minutes.

Remember this was a nothing game- the lads who played needed this run out. The young lads fought for every ball - Amad works very hard. Great decision from the boss.
