Genuine question: why wasn't rashfords shot considered on target? If the defender gets it off the goal line it's on target right?

Considering Matic is a perfectly talented player, why does he think it's ok to turn in a circle 43 times before he passes forwards? It's painful to watch the silly twat these days. How the feck have we not signed a decent CM already in this window? Garbage midfield play.

Let's be honest. These guys are currently better than Arsenal

Which guys? The United players? The result the other day begs to differ...and Wolves are shite, they play like a bunch of strangers in attack most of the time.

Full foot on the gas and that’s what United get

Well it wasn’t the best game. The only upside is that we get another home game gate receipts, more funds to spend

It's different to how bad it was under Mourinho as there isn't any toxicity right now, it's just becoming more and more clear that Ole and the coaching staff are out of their depth in this job, if teams don't leave space for us to counter into we barely lay a glove on the opposition.

Dont be silly... its an accumulation of years of build-up.

I thought this was decent result. Problem is one more extra game, hopefully these youngsters will get chances again.

4 v 7 changes for manchester united from the previous matchday squad. Wolves put on the big guns early.

I dont want to split hairs but we fielded a VERY reserve oriented team here, Im not sure why its even being debated. We put no effort into winning this.
Why the feck didn’t we? It’s not like our schedule for January is so empty that we could afford a replay, if we wanted to be in FA cup we should have just fielded a strong team and subbed off main players after 50-60 mins(provided if we were winning). it’s not like a little rest is going to magically transform our squad into a quality one for the PL

He is waiting for teammates to make runs or provide better options, even a League 1 midfielder can collect the ball and pass it to the safest option but it wouldnt take us anywhere.

Definitely the better side in the 1st half. Shame that Maguire played three quarters of the game with an injury it seems (something we seem to do a lot of these days). Hopefully we won't read about him missing weeks because of it.

Thought the ref in general was really poor. The linesman gave one crazy decision based on nothing when he waved his arm for a foul by Pereira (with two players in a pushing match with him). Should have given a free kick for James being fouled near the box. Gave a free kick for Matic not touching Saiss near our box. Missed a pen when Williams was fouled in the box (compounded by the VAR ref making the same mistake).

Decent enough performance given our heavy schedule, the changes to the team and playing under the floodlights at what could easily have been much tougher had they gotten in front in the first half.

Chong looked a lot better tonight, many posters on here already written him off. Still think it's too early to judge him but was happy with him tonight.

I honestly don't know how this has anything to do with what I posted, we may not have the best players in the world but we have better players than plenty of teams in our league and yet we don't have a manager and coaching team capable of making them into a unit, it's the same rinse and repeat situation every time we play a team that just sits off us and challenges us to create.

We needed to win this game. Simple

I would imagine our wage structure to be almost double of Wolves. A cup win would definitely give the lads some momentum and something for the fans to cheer about.

The extra game right before Anfield is very bad for us.

Some of our landmark achievements after yesterday's game:
- Manchester United failed to direct a single shot on target in a domestic league or cup game for the first time since January 2015 vs Southampton in the Premier League.
- Manchester United failed to have a single shot on target in this match, the second time they have done so in all competitions this season (also vs AZ in the Europa League).
- Wolves are unbeaten in their past five matches against United in all competitions (W2 D3), their longest such streak against the Red Devils since a run of six between 1959-1962.
- United failed to score for the first time in 14 meetings with Wolves in all competitions, since losing 0-1 in a Premier League match in January 2004.
- The Red Devils have been taken to an FA Cup third-round replay for the first time since 2012-13, when they eliminated West Ham at Old Trafford
in the Premier League.
Just another day at the office for Ole and his boyz.

The defender appeared to be limping after a challenge on Wolves’ winger Adama Traore in the first period, with Phil Jones going through an extensive warm-up on the sidelines.

However, Jones’s services weren’t required, as Maguire managed to complete the full 90 minutes. “I don’t know,” the boss said, when asked by BT Sport whether Maguire would be fit for the Carabao Cup tie.

“We were close to taking him off at half-time, but he battled through. Let’s see how he recovers. We hope so.“

Why would you keep him on the pitch and let him "battle through", in an FA cup game? Why risk? I really don't get it.

The only thing I can say is the stats are wrong. Rashford clearly shot on target. I'd say the stats people need to relook at their criteria for that stat or failing that don't call it shots on target!

Poor from us and Wolves were no better.
What is a Chong? He actually has no idea why he's out there. In the end Greenwood was coming out wide to get the ball himself because Chong delivered nothing. James looks shot. He needs a month off. Pereira actually looked ok but there was so little to compare him with. Even Williams was subdued although he's still got to be first choice now.
We'll probably beat City again somehow then lose this replay at home. Tough season but I still prefer this to anything Moyes, LVG or Mourinho served up. We desperately need a player who will go past defenders. Very little we do on the ball causes panic unless we're on the break.

He’s been thrown under the bus by the club to an extent, he wasn’t brought in to be a creative midfielder was he, but as a ball winning DM. He is an experienced, talented player and as such was forced to take it upon himself to be a ball playing midfielder last night, its not his fault he doesn’t normally specialise in it.

If you think it’s garbage midfield play, blame the transfer strategy for failing to provide proper squad depth

Hilarious when Fred is coming on and the commentators say "here come the big guns" how far we have fallen.

Accepted the fact now we're just a mid table team and will be for a long time!

Brazilian international, who has played in the Copa America and was a WC 2018 final squad member?

Not too shabby.

It is disrespect to waste our time on watching a game of nothing.

Fans are getting fed up with this. Our midfield is shite and no creative player up front.

Cant get my head round this. This is better than LVG winning the FA cup or Mourinho winning Europa League and finishing 2nd and getting to cup final etc?
Some of LVGs 2nd season was the most boring Ive ever watched but not convinced we are playing better footy generally.
Feel for Ole as hes been dealt a difficult hand, but no way is this better.

I think the defender wasn't last man. Goalkeeper behind him.

On target defined as:

Goes into the net regardless of intent.

Is a clear attempt to score that would have gone into the net but for being saved by the goalkeeper or is stopped by a player who is the last-man with the goalkeeper having no chance of preventing the goal (last line block).

It's true, but we have lost to Wolves plenty recently, so still being in the hat is a good result. Even if we didn't need another game.
wow sometimes you read a post and reality bites about how low expectations are....

for one of the richest clubs in the world with one of the biggest wage bills

I'm not asking him to pass it to the safest available option, I'm asking him to not ruin counter attacks by standing around on the ball until all their defenders are back in position. I don't actually care if our attackers aren't in the best position to receive the pass at this point, I'd rather we tried something and lost possession than ruined every single counter attack. It wasn't only Matic who did that, Pereira did it too for example, but Matic is a vastly more talented player than Pereira and he could do much more if he wasn't a silly twat.

Drawing at a tough team with half the team out? It's hardly being glad we've got a shot on target v Norwich or something.

Do you think expectations should be higher? I mean sure, looking at bigger context and where the club has put itself in the last years, sure. But the team that we have now? If people really think that, i mean . Wow. They are not in touch with reality.

Interesting, thanks.

Lampard's goals/shots on target rate must be out of this world!

Hmmm. They have a lot of strange ideas such as players not getting sufficient pay rises (our wages are quite high, no?) and seem to be quite attention seeking. That being said they're no different that anyone on here, we've all got opinions.
I watched that show. And i have to say, that main guy running it is as thick as the most reactionary posters on here. His rhetoric is reactionary and he dosent know shit about football. When you go on like that you will attract negative attention. When i see them have 600k followers i understand the average football fan is changing. It makes sense now, how it is on twitter and every time we loose on here.

Having said that, i dont support violence. And some of those guys on the "fan cam" are sensible fellas who know their football and follow the club. So debate them or ignore them, but we are not wearing boots in the 80`s anymore.

Wasn't terrible last night but not good either. We didn't do enough of note. I'm still bitter about that penalty decision today though I must admit. If that's awarded as it should have been we probably would have won the game easily enough and avoided this replay bollocks.

based on our wage bill, expectations should be much much higher

based on our current situation I think it was an expected result - with the team we had out though it wasnt unrealistic to expect more chances created for example

it really shouldn't be the level we are at but it is.... we need 6 players in between now and August

Considering the side we put out, it could have gone a lot worse. It was an okay performance, a lot of hard work but we didn’t really do enough to win the match due to perhaps the lack of quality. Didn’t really want a replay but the draw

Romero was fantastic, Chong who has been pretty awful this year was decent, didn’t think anyone was particularly bad.

Also couldn’t believe we didn’t get the penalty.

Agree with everything you said, plus, I thought the level of refereeing and the assistant refereeing was somewhat poor overall, with lots of silly or 'no decision', decisions; but in fairness the ref got the handball decision right, even before VAR.

At one point it looked like neither team were fussed about winning!

Say what you want, million times better than the Arsenal game. If this was the team vs Arsenal we wouldnt have lost so easily.
OGS is horrible but at least Lingard didnt play. The reason we did better is cuz we didnt need to compensate for him
Million times better? Zero shots on target. And the team against Arsenal was exactly the same team that impressively beat Man City, apart from McTominay.

It goes down as a blocked shot.
