Yes I would go with that. I would hope its Carrick as his new No 2, but whoever it is he needs to listen to them or whats the point? Its a good excuse for him to look how the football style is and change.
Talksport mentioned Villas Boas with the No. 2 job. I bloody hope not.

This place is fecking hilarious. Depressed people who come here to cry because they probably have depressed lives. Players want to keep themselves fit for the world cup/final. Players who haven't played much and can't care either. Its all about the final.

Totally agree, season is over, 2nd place secured and a Final next week then straight onto the world cup! I bet they’re all shattered, feck a worthless game against Watford and risk getting injured.

Lets do the business at Wembley next week then get all players away injury free to the wold xup with their countries.

What’s been the excuse over the last nine months or so then? We’ve been painfully awful to watch for the majority of the season.

More crap football to look forward to next season. Only 19 points to claw back. Let's just hope we win the F.A. Cup. Can't see why they are shattered, they have walked most of the season.

I am giving Jose the benefit of the doubt. While not brilliant, his football isn't as shit as this. It has a lot to do with the FBs and lack of a CB with proper passing ability. And of course, Pogba being inconsistent.

Once Jose gets a couple of FBs, a CM and maybe a ball playing CB, and if he still plays this tedious shite, I'll judge him more harshly. But you can't expect champagne football with Young and Valencia starting almost every game. Even Jose said that some players are not at the level he requires.

One thing I admit is that the attack can certainly look a lot more cohesive than they have looked, which needs improving next season as well.

No excuse. I didn't defend the football we played. Was just saying that it is far less depressing than the funeral kind of feeling i am gettin here.

But Jose loves Young. In a press conference a few days back he said that he hopes Young plays 50 games next season.

Fair dues mate.

Sure, as a sub and occasional starter, and in the domestic cups. It is also just Jose's way of praising his professionalism, no need to take it seriously. We are being linked with Alex Sandro btw.

He’s been poorly managed just like Martial and Pogba etc. Mouriniho hasn’t a clue when it comes to attacking players. He’s put Rashford out of position, drained his confidence by never playing him and clearly hasn’t man managed him allowing him to display arrogance and immaturity all the time.
Rashford was first choice (albeit alternating with Martial fairly evenly) for the first couple of months of the season. He was no better then, and eventually he was rightfully dropped for Martial who was playing better.

Rashford has been poor all season. His decision making has normally been terrible, and he's been much more selfish than he showed in his previous seasons. His entire attitude has been poor this season. Mourinho has quite obviously wanted to play him, and he simply hasn't performed well enough to deserve it.

There may have been things that Mourinho could have done better with him, but overall I would say that the majority of the blame goes on Rashford himself. He isn't one of the ones who can claim that he's been treated harshly (like Martial and perhaps Shaw could do).

Wonder if Rashford is on is way out?
I remember a young player who looked happy out there, who tirelessly took players on and tried to make things happen. Now, he constantly looks like he's at a funeral. Every time he gets the ball he turns around looking for a safe pass. Sad to see.

I really wouldn't know but after today Martial is a goner and it wouldn't surprise me if Rashford would want to leave either. I doubt it as he is living the Manchester dream but he hasn't looked happy for quite some time.

On the first day of the season, if you had told me that we'd finish 2nd and the only team to finish ahead of us would do so in the process of setting EPL records for wins, points and goals, I would've said that you can't really be too upset with that outcome.

I didn't go into the match day thread(probably a good idea given how bad the game was), why were the players wearing watches walking out onto the pitch at the start of the game?

There is nothing wrong with the 2nd place, except I wish it was first. It is the football we play. If we were playing good entertaining football it would be great. It just seems we are being punished for something in a previous life.

Yeah this was the first game this season we played like this. ..

It doesn't matter who he brings, he's still the boss and his general philosophy of football will be respected or the new assistant will leave.
He's at an age, he will never change. We have to learn to accept it, the new assistant will change feck all

I fully agree Jose listens to nobody, he is always convinced he ways are right and everyone else is wrong. Does anyone know why his number 2 of 17 years is quitting at the end of the season?

I think this game perfectly sums up our season.

If you look only at the result, it's good. Horrible performance wise. A pain to watch, start to finish. With nothing to shout about and nothing to really celebrate. But the end result is decent.

Boring shite. Wasted a day of revising for finals to see Carrick off - which was the only positive really (besides McTominay out muscling Doucore and running half the pitch).

Sanchez 4/10
Rashford 5/10

More shite

Rashford has been shite most of this year. Looks to have declined since first coming on the scene. Martial is gone IMO. Sanchez was an uninspired signing. Bailly looked rusty, to be expected I guess.

Yawn. Annoyed at Mourinho as I have increasingly become throughout the season. Guy can't leave the club soon enough. Absolute dead rubber game, yet he doesn't include a single youth team player in the 18. Why? Why? This is exactly the situation that we made fun of Chelsea for as they always ignored them, and they always made excuses. Now it's United fans backtracking to make excuses for Mourinho. Say it like it is. Mourinho is a negative manager who just doesn't trust youth players. 2 huge points against him when talking about United managers. Just goes against everything we represent as a club. Even all this talk about him playing McTominay... McTominay is turning 22 later this year and is 6'4". I'd suspect that has a lot more to do with it, more then anything.

Anyway. At least we're in better form then Chelsea going into the FA Cup final. Hopefully for next season Mourinho has some sort of epiphany over the summer and completely changes everything he's ever done and decides to be more attack minded. Not holding my breath though.
Hi five to you. Sums up my exact some thoughts. Fans getting excited about mctominay in game with nothimg left to play. Thank god the league is over, can't bare to watch another game. One game to go, slog scroll over the line, trophy in the bank and on to another year with Jose.

Has anyone considered that Rashford and Martial may not quite be good enough to be starters?
Go back to the summer before Mourinho was appointed. Everyone was raving about them. Every rival fan was also saying just wait for Mourinho to come in and within a couple of years they both will have gone backwards and will be isolated and thrown under the bus and one if not both gotten rid of. And here we are. People believing this rubbish when they just haven't been properly developed or given the platform to perform well from because of the manager in charge.

Sanchez, who if not world class, there is no doubt is a top player. He's made absolutely no positive difference compared to Martial starting every game or Rashford starting occasionally on the left. In fact, I'd say he's done much worse overall compared to either Martial or Rashford did in the first half of the season. Does that say something about the players themselves, or maybe, just maybe, that we don't play with any sort of attacking system or cohesion and the play style and system manager has in place is the main reason for every single flair player underperforming under Mourinho?

Summing up todays game:
Rashford is a talking point. Good 1st half performance, the goal must have inspired him as well. Looked like a different player than we've been seeing of late. Then what the feck happened in the 2nd half. He lost his confidence and looked afraid to make a pass unless it was 100% sure. He's playing like a player who's afraid of making mistakes. Difficult situation as you could feel the crowd getting on at him. Cause for concern!
Wonder if Carrick can be persuaded to give it another season. He showed the others how to pass the ball forward and made us realize what we've been missing.
Some ok performances but nothing more. Match was a big yawn which is no surprise anymore.

Lingard.

Jose Borinho !!! FFS. I look at his moody sulking unenthusiastic attitude on the side of the pitch and no wonder his players lack any urgency or passion.

Mata blind darmian rojo fellaini Valencia all can go thanks to all but their time is up.

Pretty much summed up the season really. Job done but in an unspectacular way so hopefully we can be a bit more entertaining next year. I know Jose isn't the most positive coach in the world but I'm not convinced that it is all down to him, there's just too many slow players in the squad.

Fantastic send off for Michael Carrick though. Such an underrated player over the years.

Wondering the same myself. But I'm frequently wrong, so I've decided to sit firmly on the fence and blame both manager and players ( same goes for the rest of the team ........ with the exception of DDG, of course ).

What a year of outstanding teamwork, tactics and entertainment. I love how the youth developed and the European big guns looked on in awe, hoping that Jose reverts to norm and gets us playing safe. Next year is our year la. It can't start soon enough. Now let's smash Chelsea with the only shot on target in the full 90 mins. God I love this game. Attacking football is for p*ssies.

I didn't watch the game but many of the posts here read like the ones in our last games before the Europa League Final. The manager and the boys had given up on the league and were focused on the trophy. They got plenty of sticks for drab, uninspiring play prior to the final and then they went on to smash Ajax.

I hope this will be the same with Chelsea on Saturday. :D

Boring game. Rashford tried but he just didn't have the quality.

I don't know why Darmian doesn't get more games. He's a solid full back. Bailly was good as well. Special mention to Mata's first touch on the goal. Made that look easy.
