The irony of watching us in the Europa rather than CL: we will get a tougher draw then any of the other 4 Eng teams in CL draw of 16!

Urgency to get the 2nd goal only came in the last 5-10min. Too little too late.

Right, when’s this play off? Get the fecking striker in before it

It’s a big game and one that I would enjoy. Besides to win the thing you will need to play them probably at some stage

Hopefully it will be Varane and Lindelof who line up in place of Martinez

Screw that. Give us Shakhtar with the away leg being played in Poland because of the war.

Save Barca for later on.

We need a stopped clock every time the ball goes dead so you get a full 90 minutes.
It would be enough if they added enough time at the end to ensure 60 minutes of play or 30 minutes each half.

Stuff like the Newcastle Liverpool game would discourage such nonsense

But refs aren't strong enough to do that away in Europe.

Some positives, I thought Shaw played exceptionally well and young Ganacho looks to be an excellent signing.

If Martial is fit then he and Ganacho could potentially be a good strike partnership.

We look crap every time Ronaldo is on

Agree completely. He is terrible at this stage. We just don't play well when he is on the pitch. Lot of injuries tonight in fairness, it would have been good to bring him on for the last 20 mins but what can you do.

Striker in January is badly needed.

Likewise, just giving my opinion.

But not from today's match. If you thought the United game was good today, then I think it's good. For me today United played badly especially playing the ball in midfield.

Today we learned: Bruno is a great winger and we should let DvB be our #10 instead :D

If we don't need two goals to finish top it's a great away win in Europe so I'm not going to get too down about that by any means. We definitely didn't kick on in the second half like we would've hoped but I don't think there was anything wrong with the original gameplan, especially with the players we had out and the strong defence we have.

Let's see who we get then.

Obviously Shaktar would be the dream draw but would take Juventus given their current form. Definitely want to avoid Sporting and Barca.

I finished the game on delay, haven’t read a single post yet. Ten Hag absolutely shat the bed. The change in formation killed us off as an attacking threat after an hour, and the Maguire thing is borderline embarrassing in the 80th minute.

Are we seriously saying that we have to go long ball with a defender upfront, with 15 minutes left to play. Up there with Mata off for Powell that one.

I really rate Ten Hag, but thought he got it really wrong both tonight and at Chelsea with his changes.

Had to play a bit of a makeshift team, but still a win. Would’ve won the group were it not for one of the worst refereeing decisions, after VAR, I have ever seen. Also would’ve won the group if Ronaldo hadn’t missed and absolute fecking sitter, the useless twonk. He really is awful now.

Team becomes so much less functional with him on the pitch. Can’t wait to have all our forwards back, and relegate him to impact sub. We did well all things considered. ANOTHER clean sheet. Which is fantastic. Keep racking up the wins, even if this win fell marginally short of what we needed.

Happy for us to take on whoever we get in the playoff. Bring them on. Not scared of playing anybody tbh. Need another forward in January and to get Ronaldo’s ridiculous wages off the books. He’s only scored twice from open play all season. A goal against Everton, an important one, a penalty against Sheriff, and a meaningless one again against Sheriff, is a shocking return for 500k a week.

Bog positive from tonight is the full emergence of Garnacho as a viable first team player. Searing pace, brave, and a good finisher. Need to be very patient, but the signs are good. Desperately needed option for the thinly stretched front line.

For our game to work we need the whole team functioning as a single unit. Right now, having to use Bruno as a forward, and having old man river leading the charge, it is disconnected and isolated and the whole system breaks down. We saw against Spurs and Chelsea how intelligent and effective that press can be, and how it changes our entire game and allows us to dominate. That was missing against West Ham and Sociedad, and it’s easy to see the common denominator.

and yet still won the match and would have won the group if it wasn't because of a shite call
Should of had a lot more GD though. That would of put us top. We had Sherriff and Omonia in the group man.

I can’t really figure out if this United team is one inch from falling apart or one inch from turning into something great. I fear however that it will be the first. There is something missing and it is not only a striker.

That was not good. Also the tactical changes were not great. We didn't even pump the ball into the box when Maguire went up top.

Why the hell is he up there if we're just gonna pass it around rather than spam crosses late in the game? Upsetting.

Lack of ability to score doomed our chances to finish top. Yes the ref was shit in this game, and the first Sociedad game but we should have been able to smash Sheriff and Onomia. We should have been able to score a goal on Sociedad at home before they got the BS VAR call.

No it's not only a striker. We lack belief because it has been so long since we won one of the major 2 trophies.

Was completely wrong pre-match about ETH wanting to get top spot - didn't seem he was too bothered. It was a good goal that came out of nowhere really and then proceeded to do feck all to create chance to win it. I get wanting VDB to get minutes but, a change should have been made at half time and even when we made the change, playing Rashford centrally was a ridiculous decision. Also, I don't see how a team doesn't do everything to get Garancho on the ball after he clearly would have had the beating of their right back

We had zero clue how to play through them it seemed, couldn't win long balls and even Eriksen was really really loose in possession which summed up the team really.

Watching the game I kept thinking surely Shaw has money on us finishing second, took an age with throws and lead to us just conceding possession then, no urgency on the ball and even when we were in hurry up mode, instead of playing the ball to Garanacho who had a defender standing off him, he plays it short to Garancho to run back. It was a diabolical performance from him.

Think it was a cowardly display considering we had nothing to lose by losing but, everything to gain if we went for it a lot sooner.

On the positive, it's another clean sheet and a win though does not feel much like a win right now.

ETH didn't have a good night but this problem of scoring goals, there's only so much a manager can do. He needs new players up top.

The defence and centre midfield has improved because of the new faces. We need a couple more up top.

Absolutely embarrassing from both referee and Sociedad to turn this into everything but a football match.

So, I wouldn't be harsh on ETH or players in this mess, I'm more disgusted by numerous Spanish teams that act like they are touched by God and referees who are allowing that. Also, not smart for UEFA to delegate this match to someone who didn't officiate a serious game in Europe in some time.

Not saying that referees are to blame for us not winning a group but when I saw this "game" tonight and the fact that they beat us at home with a unfairly given penalty right in front of the ref's eyes, I'm just fuming about how they can, sadly, influence a football game.

On a positive note, another win with a clean sheet and kudos to Garnacho for breaking the record - the youngest ever United player to score in Europe.

It was pretty shite. But my god against that sort of shithousery and terribly officiating it's very deflating.

Ronaldo looks totally cooked and brings down our play so much.

Garnacho should be a future star.

It was a very respectable away performance. Unfortunately, the shocking penalty awarded at home lost us the top place.

Decent result considering we were playing 11 against 12. Well 10 against 12 if you consider Ronaldo doing nothing other than flopping around for 90 minutes.

Let’s take the positives from this.

We are are playing 3 games a week. We won all 3 games and didn’t concede one goal.

We won tonight away from home in Europe, and against decent La Liga opposition.

Garnacho showed us a glimpse of the future with a great goal.

Our back 4 and goalie are proper solid.

We are improving and building a better squad.

A win away is a plus firstly. A total non pen in the reverse fixture has put them through by 1 goal that's it. I'm pretty sure those teams in the draw from CL won't want UTD.

We won and I'm happy enough. Winning is a habit. And clean sheets are becoming a habit here too. Last season both sides would have played the round of 32. I won't get wound up cos of a new fangled rule. There's no one on that list of potential opponents to strike any fear into United. Ideally, we get a striker in January and we're even better set. Bring it on!

I'm going to believe that Erik had an 'oh f**k this' moment when he realised there was nobody capable of scoring so threw on Maguire up front as a 'f**k you Glazers, this is your fault. Get a striker in January' message.

Fair play to Sociedad, they played really well. Never tried to sit back and hold on, they really made it hard for us and they beat us in the end despite the score being 1-0 to us

Disappointing but not the end of the world. It's always good to play good teams, let's see how we are against a CL drop out

Garnacho's goal was a huge highlight - the pace he showed and the finish was superb.
