Not great but we won. Now City away and honestly not getting embarassed is main goal. Was 6-3 last time there.

Thought Antony played well , unlucky not to score, happy for him.

Amrabat looked very good 2 half.

Wish we could take our early chances, good start to the game.

ETH needs to speak up for Bruno about the neck grab and bash the refs/var. Take a suspension , whatver. Go nuts about it. Pen for Rashford too.

We of course are not good enough, but love the win and will be fun to play the scouse.

Was tough to watch. No fluidity. But it's the cup, so on we go.

Not great though we had the better chances and were rarely troubled. Got the job done and have the Liverpool tie to look forward to.

Annoying even if we beat Liverpool the laws of probability that come with being an average team means they would then beat us in the crucial run in league game. We’d also probably just get spanked by City at Wembley while Chelsea are scraping past Coventry.

That corner at the end of the match is a sign of the problems we have with the players and coaching.
Bruno did the exact stupid thing against Luton Town when he took a shot instead of taking the ball to the corner and killing the game and we almost conceded a goal in the last minute. Last night he did the say again. Just play it short and get the Forest players to foul you or to put it out for another corner.

We can't underestimate how tough losing Hojlund and Martinez is. We just don't have any adequate replacements for them. The physical work that Hojlund puts in backing into defenders, shielding the ball, laying the ball off...Marcus Rashford is not that sort of player. He just doesn't have it in his game.

There were some positives to take from this performance. Amrabat looked better in the second half and Antony, to be fair to him, had a really good game and deserved a goal.

Performance typical of our season really. Forest were so average, they can't play, no quality at all. A lack of quality from both teams. But we won. Amrabat was ok last 30 mins. Dalot played well. We had half chances but Onana kept us in it.

No idea what is happening on the training ground. None.

Was trying to pick a 5 a side team from our starting 11 last night, and struggling. So I’ll take the win!

Rashfords impression of the mannequin was uncanny and disturbing in equal measures. Got to admire Bald for realising we’d need McSauce at secondary striker to cover our lack of, well anyone, in the box.

Nice to see Amrabat play so well, more of that would be very welcome against better teams, pretty much ran our midfield for periods.

'Ran the midfield for periods'. Must have missed that, we didnt run anything last night. After some poor passes he did get more involved, but thats about it. Lets keep some perspective

Ran our midfield would have been more accurate.

Think it’s fair to say nobody ran the midfield.

I’d love to see a game where we actually put our chances away. Another game where we could be 2/3 up but fail to score what seem to be easy chances. Get RVP and Rooney on the coaching staff and teach our players how to score. It’s a joke how many missed chances we’ve had this season. Seems to be every game now.

Ill take the win and a good performance from some players! Its become a tough season with alot of chaos in and around the club. Limo trough and let the new structure rip up the 10 year overgrow of weeds!

But atrocious the first 60. Apart from Onana and Dalot, I thought Bruno and Antony played well, on the whole. Otherwise just as you say.

How is that not a penalty for Rashford though. The defender puts his arm on his ribs and just shoves him into his teammate. There is no player alive who has any chance to remain on his feet being subjected to that. Penalty calls make less and less sense to me.

Think we were a little better than people are giving us credit for. With a proper goalscorer on the pitch we win that easily. The injuries are killing us though.

Fair play to Casemiro, came up with a big goal from a set piece situation again. It he can replicate that a few times before the end of the season it would be a huge help.

Didn't impact the result at all obviously but I don't understand how yer man isn't getting sent off at end for that blatant choke? It's a million times worse than the Casemiro "choke" last season. I'd say one thing of the ref just missed it but it was a looked at by VAR and still cleared? Huh?

Also I'd start Amrabat over Lindelof in that left back position any day or the week.

Come on. For 60 minutes at least, Amrabat was far, far worse than Lindelof has been on LB.

Did you derive enjoyment from it?

We won in the FA Cup 5th round against Forest in a fairly end to end cup tie played at a decent tempo, of course I derived enjoyment from it. The quality in attack being poor doesn't mean it can't be a decent game.

Anthony is such a hard watch. I sort of feel sorry for the bloke because he tries but he’s so awkward. There was an occasion last night on the right wing when he tried to go on the outside using his left foot, it just looked so wrong. I think he’d make a better midfielder because his short passing is alright and he’s quite tenacious but I’ve rarely seen a footballer less suited to the position he’s being played in.

Are we watching the same game? What exactly are expectations for Antony? He didnt once beat a player, he didnt put in a cross, he hit the bar but that's it. Yes he put in a shift defensively and one decent pass into the box. But its what he does that is the problem. Receives ball in space, jogs towards full back, shimmies a bit and then either passes sideways/ backwards, or runs inside 10-15 yards before passing the same way into traffic. He kills attacks, removes all momentum and slows us down. Forest only left one defender on him. He is not a threat, and a major reason we look so toothless. Against Forest, who are awful.

What is a classified as a good Antony performance? He didn't shy away from his defensive duties? Because he didn't produce much in attack. May be the idea to try him as a fullback isn't that outrageous.

He had quite a lot of good passes into and around the box, actually. For most of the game he did a good deal more than Garnacho or Rashford managed, and about the same as Bruno. In addition to his defensive work. Not a brilliant performance or anything, but all in all pretty good I thought. Certainly one of his better this year. If that was his "had an okay evening" level rather than his top level, he'd be a player.

Not sure I agree with you concerning "what he does". You could argue that our attack needs some balance in the direction of slowing things down, given how extremely direct everyone else on it likes to play. I'd rather see him play that way than constantly trying to cut in and finish, like he used to.

A few posts saying Anthony played well? He worked had running back and he didnt give the ball away. So credit for that. Apart from that he was hopeless. He cant beat a man on the outside so never trys. He cuts inside and just passes sideways everytime. He completely lacks the cutting edge a winger needs. Very much a one trick pony who doesnt bring the one trick out much.

Yes. I saw that people were saying he played well as well. This is surely just a relative statement compared to his normal level.

Is this how far our standards have slipped? Basically he's doing the workrate expected of any footballing professional. We could have replaced him with John O'Shea or Russell Beardsmore or any journeyman player from over the years.

Man Utd have a reputation for having wingers that make the difference and in the past have typically recycled the ball around to generate a 1v1 opportunity for the wingers to use their skills to create something.

I don't care if he can receive the ball and pass it backwards. I could put on a shirt and do that - even at my age. If he isn't capable of exploiting 1v1 or an overload or any other positional opportunities then there is zero point in persisting with him.

exactly, have been posting this several times. He offers nothing and in fact kills all momentum in attacks. He is negative threat.

What Chance does our attack have with Rashford Antony as 2 of the 3 up front. The other is a 19 year old though thankfully he is more than doing his bit. Rashford has chucked it not for the first time and the Other is well not a €100m player for sure.

Job done. But for the crying out loud just drop Rashford....
Selling him would be better.
It drives me insane watching him jog about, throw his hands up in the air when he loses the ball for the 4th straight time, pull out of any sort of physical challenge as if having to get stuck in is beneath him and generally sulk around the pitch.
Happy that we won, but feck me watching us is painful.

I desire him sold entirely. But the window don't open till 1st July, thus I'd like the next best thing. Do a Ragnick and stop picking him

Who knew that having an actual 3 man midfield in the second half with amrabat, cas and mctominay that we would actually show some control for once, wish we would do it more often

What a terrible watch.
Gave Casemiro the MOM simply for the bit of class right at the end which gave us the win, but Onana, Dalot and even Amrabat ( when he finally went into midfield) were in with a shout.
I know Rashford is out of sorts just now, but he has no idea of how to play the CF role. At one point I expected Shearer (commentating) to appear on the touchline bellowing at Rashford " for feck's shake Rashy get up front and lead the line." Really not sure where ETH goes now with Rashford, he has to try McT in the CF role, his finishing was off last night but he got into the right place a number of times.
Got to be a 5-3-1-1 formation on Sunday, maybe even 5-4-1 to try to avoid embarrassment and hope Stones goes back to his 'silly mistakes' period for a bit.

The best thing about winning last night is that the PL game vs Sheffield UTD is now postponed.
Hojlund should only miss 2 more league games now.

Man Utd paid £90m for him. Last night he was as average as everyone else on that pitch... it's a shame, but it's how it is. I just see Antony as an average player. He wouldn't look special in Division One.

Maybe this is the way to go for City, a 3 man midfield of Casemiro, Amrabat and Kobbie with Bruno coming in from the right? Rashford up front though is honestly such a disappointment as he is not good with his back to goal at all - If he were able to do that a bit better yesterday, we would've been a better attacking threat.

Will we ever look like a top side again?
Looked like a match between equals.
Is this our floor or is this our level?

Scraping results is good, but I'd like to see ETH's plan and a team playing collectively better both with and without the ball.
