Post-match discussion

Nearly everyone had an absolute shocker. Rashford anonymous. Bruno was sluggish and just poor. Midfield nowhere to be seen. Varane and Antony were decent. Weird decisions from Ten Hag. Away form is very concerning.

Haha, so who should he have played then!? Have you seen our bench?

Martial was on the bench and is light years more a goal scoring threat than Weghorst. McTominay for Fred was also a disaster. Most rational fans could've told you this before the game.

Funny how every once in a while you get a reminder as to how much of a momentum game football essentially is.

We played like one of the best teams in the world some weeks ago.

Now, again, it looks like the players are spent, scared, and bereft of ideas.

If we look like this regularly without Casemiro (who hasn't been at his best either when he last was playing)... Well, that would be a concern.

Ok. I think I understand now. ETH and the team purposely throw the game so that Glazer will sell the club. This is the only kind of thinking that will make me feel better about the game. Or give me some weed.

The difference without Casemiro is amazing. McTominay is an empty shirt. I don't care how many goals he scores for Scotland, he's appalling. Sabitzer isn't much better either. Ten Hag had a complete 'mare today too. No idea what those subs were about.

It`s like they don`t care as much about the league anymore.
Casemiro is a big miss of course but we look so casual and laidback at times. Players jogging into position, missing rather easy passes..

Why does Weghorst need to start every game? I don`t get it, he offers so so little in some games. There must be some other way we can play football?

Fully deserved win for Newcastle, well up for the game full of running and energy, that win should allow them to kick on and finish in the top 4 now.

A damaging defeat for Man United as could be out of the top 4 tomorrow night. Probably the worst 90 minute performance all season as at least against Liverpool they were decent 1st half. Newcastle if clinical could easily have won that match 7-0. So many of those United players are running on empty at this stage and will be lucky to finish the season in the top 4. To say I'm concerned would be understatement.

We must have the most mentally and physically weak team I've seen. Aside from Cass & Martinez, the rest are so easily out muscled and look completely lost unless we are leading a game.

Also WW, the worst player I've seen for united. An I watched Bebe and Prunier. Tony showed more in 10 mins than WW has in the last 3 games.

Direct, aggressive, fast will to win, brave.....

Everything United weren't.

Went about as well as expected for a team that can't play through midfield nor be particularly effective by going direct. At the moment, we probably couldn't have been a more perfect opponent for Newcastle.

We do really seem to have dropped our performance levels. Passing has never been the best but it’s gone to absolute tripe now and people just aren’t working as hard as they should be.

Our midfield probably does need a rebuild. McT, Fred ,Bruno and Donny none of them are comfortable on the ball or coming to collect the ball. Bruno and McT are like polar opposites, one refusing to pass it forward when it’s an easy and obvious pass to start an attack, Whilst the other needs an age to make a decent pass and often just punting balls forward attempting ridiculous passes when there are better options.

The manager has to take his share of the blame for that one. Wout had to go off at half time, we were playing with 10 men, Newcastle were all over us.

The triple sub was bizarre.

Worryingly, Rashford wasn't in it, hopefully he isn't burnt out.

Newcastle deserved their win, we must do much better.

Do you mean burnt out from his travels to the USA? Yes those trips can burn you out...Jetlag and all that.

If the Glazers think they get away with only loaning players in a transfer window and rely on the manager to work magic. It's not happening. Put up consistently or shut up.

Pisses me off how none of our players show any intensity, absolutely no fight and always pull out of challenges. We never force our game on the opponents, just let them roll the ball around and hope for a lucky break, was never going to be sustainable.

I don't get why we keep knocking the ball about in our own half when Newcastle is pressing so high up. Just bypass them and play the ball further upfield. Even if we lose it upfield at least it would force Newcastle's front line to drop a bit deeper after a while. Also, Wout really hasn't offered much this game, not even holding up play which he has been generally quite good at for us.
Asked this in match thread at half time. Stupid, so so stupid. Insisting on playing the ball around in our defence when Newcastle were pressing high up with their front players. Constantly turning the ball over to them in our own half and what happened? Two goals they scored from it. Not from counter attacks while we have numbers in their half. Not from build up play from their own half. But from us turning the ball over because we insisted on not playing it long to relieve the high pressing line they had. Such an annoying result that we should have done a lot better by playing smarter.

I think we might have wasted a whole load of money on Sancho and Antony because they are not very good at football or running around and stuff and also Antony has annoying face and Sancho is a pussy in every 50/50 and I don’t think they even like themselves.

Martial is coming off the back of a long time off with injury but yeah, let's chuck him in to one of the most important games of the season straight away. Fred/McTominay is not a clear choice of one or the other, they are both as bad as each other. McTominay was also off the back of a good international break and earned his spot in the team. Martial did next to nothing when he came on either.

That team was good enough on paper to beat Newcastle. The team was shockingly bad all over the pitch and second to every ball. That is on them. Not on ETH. Too many bluffers in that team that are letting him down and every other manager before him.

That game was worse than Hitler.

From looking like we might have an outside shot at a title to looking like a mid table side that’d be lucky to get top four all in the space of a few weeks! Football bloody hell!

Just highlights what we all knew before.

Our midfield not having Casemiro or Eriksen is really affecting our build up. ETH has tried to cover this by dropping Bruno deeper, but that's not helping at all. Its just making our midfield more confused, whilst also making Bruno less effective. Sabitzer is average and has no influence, whilst Mctominay invites pressure and does not want to offer a passing route or provide passes.

Add this to our forward line being poor. Antony was actually quite good today, but unfortunately without a midfield able to hold possession or build up through the middle, everything came on a counter. Weghorst was ineffective up front, so even pumped balls didn't really have any effect.

Our pressing has also been heavily reduced. Again I think this is a consequence of changing shape. We are using more of a 433 lately, with Bruno not even being the highest 8. So our pressing shape has also changed, and this has been far less effective. Weghorst has also stopped pressing well, so our winning the ball back hasn't been great
