PL D FA Premier League

Newcastle United 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Mon, 27 December 2021

The year is 2022. Its Summer. A warm sun shines in the air. Harry Maguire is still on the ball.

He'll pass it soon...

He must.

Right?

The old man and I screamed at the tv everytime he was on the ball. Seriously takes 3 times as long as needed to get it forward.

DDG doing DDG, Cavani did twice as much in half the time of our other forwards. Didnt deserve that point, Newcastle outplayed us.

Starting lineup cost us. Ralf has a big job on his hands.

I’m glad I have lots of alcohol left from Christmas. :(
Players looked like they'd emptied their wine collections over Christmas

Horseshit performance and attitude

There is a lot wrong right now and it needs to be fixed

Very relieved to get a point it was completely undeserved

Bruno this season is honestly like watching Andy Tate get a chance to play for United for a year. Absolutely fecking useless. Gets the ball then smashes it up the field to nobody.

Really poor performance. Unfortunately, the changes are resulting in us panicking on the ball constantly. A lot more needs to be done. But it's four games, we need to be patient.

Second half was a little better but overall so poor and our performance didn't even deserve the draw that we got. Absolutely no fight or any evidence of a desire to go out there and win the game. You cannot be dropping points to Newcastle if we're battling for the top 4.

De Gea 9/10 and MOTM for us.

Cavani 7/10, scored a goal.

The rest including the subs 1/10 for me

As for Ralf, my patience is running thin for him but I am willing to give him more time to sort things out.

In the last 10 minutes, there just wasn't any urgency in our players.
I really do think that RR should think about bringing in some players from our youth team. They'll be hungry to play and hunt the ball down.

My observation too. We were playing as if we were 2-0 up. Defence not advancing/attacking the space, no attempt at making penetrative tackle. Midfielders (what was left of it) not making space to free up a passing option.

A point gained given how bad we were.

What dirt has Maguire got on the world of football? Needs dropped and captaincy stripped from him. And the team as a while, everytime I think they cannot play any worse they prove me wrong

I really thought the days of watching from behind the sofa were over when ole left, deary me that was a shambles.

Rashford is a fecking disgrace. He can't do anything, and this can't be stressed enough, anything right at all. Drop him FFS.

The malaise at this club runs deep - at one point in the 90th minute Matic allowed the ball to continue to run to waste time on the goal kick - Ferguson would have been fuming - this team had settled for a point at a team that has let in 80 goals in the calendar year. I hate this team - and I’m a season ticket holder of 40 years….

Back to not caring about United again for me. I pepped up when Ronaldo came back for a match and when Ralf came in for a bit but genuinely cant be arsed with this. I'll watch if its on but not going to lose any sleep about it. Comical at best. Super Dave the only one who can hold his head up. Everyone else making constant errors.

Really scruffy performance. You can explain the rust with the 16 day enforced lay-off, Covid in the camp etc. but the workrate and attitude stank, particularly in the first half.

The commentary team were absolutely wanking over Newcastle every chance they got but I think the majority of sides in the league would have weathered ASM and Joelinton and got the three points tonight. The fact we got ourselves dragged into a dogfight with them shows how poor it was from us, with improvements to be made in every single facet of our play.

When De Gea is your best player v this awful Newcastle side...grim viewing.

Against CP, we did get 30 minutes of Ralf R football.
After that, the players thought, "Feck it!"

Need to look at the fullback situation

Shaw needs to come back in. If he can rediscover is form that spot should be his

Don’t think we would have conceded as many chances if he and AWB played today

We're a bad team and we have many lazy stupid players.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes some of our players have tiny football IQ. They're just fortunate they know how to kick a ball better than most.

In all of 2021 how many good games have we seen from Utd?

It genuinely must be about 2 or 3 good performances in 12 months, must be the worst year for watching Utd in decades.

Genuinely the last game I remember we fully dominated the 90 mins being 11 vs 11 in the PL was Ole first game vs Cardiff. Both Leeds games could have ended 6-5.

Lindelof has done very little wrong to justify being dropped instead of Maguire who has been dreadful this season.

Rashford also poor, the transition between defence and attack was non existent and the starting 11 was dreadful.

So disappointed with that. RR hasn't had alot of time but should be enough to exact some sort of control against Newcastle.
What is it with people coming to Manchester United and just turning to shite?? Players, coaches..everyone.

Disgraceful. Cannot make simple passes. Cannot find the ability to show for the ball when a team mate is in possession. Cannot create goal scoring opportunities. Cannot dominate and control the tempo of a game. Cannot defend. Cannot attack.
Ralf has a very serious problem on his hands and there is no simple solution.
When ASM looks the best player on the pitch you know you are treading water. He and McTomminay have the ability to be teammates. That’s how bad he is yet he looks a world beater against us.
Thank god for DeGea and Cavani.
A CDM doesnt solve this problem.

I cannot watch this team anymore, I hate every single player out on that pitch bar De Gea and Cavani. Not one other player showed that they cared or wanted to fight, only fight and whinge at each other. Overpaid, useless, cowards

Can't create chances and it's down to the approach play. We pass the ball with no intention and if the other team doesn't do something stupid like dash out of position, we look confused and pass it back to where it came from.

We are unable to move the ball or ourselves in a way, direction or pattern that elicits movement from the opposition back line.

We are able to exploit gaps if teams make a mistake, rather than we drew them into that mistake by our play.

Teams know this and it's easy to nullify us. Move as a unit, two banks of four, watch us sixty yards from their goal go Maguire - Varane - Maguire - Fred - Varane - Maguire - Bruno - Scott - Maguire - De Gea - Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Long Ball.

They also know that if we lose the ball we are so fragile on transition that we will likely concede.

Commentators were wondering why Newcastle don't play like this all the time

Unfortunately for them, they don't face us each week. Have they not seen a pattern yet of every team we face looking like peak Brazil for the match?

We cannot underestimate how Covid fecked us up but still, outplayed by Norwich and Newcastle isn't a good look

Covid is being used as an excuse.
Many teams have suffered from Covid, yet we are the only ones who play like crap because of it?

An abomination. A crime against football. McTominay, Cavani and De Gea did very well and that was it. No plan, no tempo, no execution, no energy, and in a few cases not even any fight.
Have to say though, on the ball Rashford did very well in the 2nd half. Defensively he was a disgrace though.

what happened to gegenpressing? We’re not doing that around here anymore? Change in plan? What is the plan anyway?

Compare and contrast to the first 30 minutes in his first game. Wtf is happening? I'm so so confused.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Ole didn't actually come in and sort out the toxicity and bad attitudes in the club. Too many egos, pointing fingers.
