Manchester United 2:1 Middlesbrough

Post-match discussion

Got to admit, that was incredibly satisfying.
Threw everything at them, played against 12 men all game, 2 penalties and a disallowed goal. Oh and that Bailly challenge was not half as bad as what happened to Mata against Sunderland

Something needs to be done about the quality of Refs, I know it's said every year but this year I've been stunned. I can literally say, we've been fecked out of like 10 penalties.(Hell should of been 6 in the past 3 matches FFS)
Sure we've got a few decisions go our way but I'd love to see a compilation of every decision that's gone against us.
If it was compared to the whole league, think we'd be winning by some distance.

I was happy with the performance I always felt under Van Gaal, we just didn't pressure teams enough, last few games It's constant. Team gets ball, attacks, loses ball, Utd win it back instantly. I think that's been one of the areas I'm most impressed with, how quickly we get the ball back & keep teams pinned back.
Still areas that need improving but this Utd team is fun to watch, plenty of controversy, characters and some of the football is fecking incredible!
Meanwhile the FA are trying every to stop us, Tinfoil hats on lads but I would not be surprised.

Well, that felt so familiar. And also so good. What a performance and mental strength by the players. I really enjoyed it.

Pogba is worth every penny!

Lee Mason caused us problems all game and was a real live-wire for Middlesbrough.

I'm just really relieved we got the 3pts and even Usain Bolt has just rung into MUTV to express his delight at our late show.:D

Martial and Valencia were fantastic for me. Pogba showing his worth. Smalling and Blind the only two below par.

Immense win for us! Helps the team's belief and character. Now when we go down they'll always believe we can come back and win.

Great game

I love the fact that we're finally able to break down teams that sit back and defend all game. I remember that being a huge issue under LVG, they'd get one counter attack and they've practically won the game.

We dominated the game and deserved a win. Boro came away from the Etihad and Emirates with a point, I think this result is pretty huge.

On top of that Boro has always been our boogie team. Awesome result!

I wish I was out in Manchester tonight. It's gonna be pumping.

Get the feck in! Nearly ruined my birthday.

Mason gave the worst refereeing performance i have seen for years!

Particular credit to Jose today for taking off a defender, putting on an extra attacker and playing with three defenders for 20 odd minutes. Bold move. Jose took flak earlier in the season for seemingly defensive decision in games, but this shows that he's prepared to take risks when the reward is there.

Just like the good old days.

If there was one thing I hated and missed the most in the Moyes and LVG reigns, it was the passion and determination and belief that we could get back in these games and win them.

It was thoroughly satisfying to see it today.

What a way to kick off the new year.

For the first time in years we have evoked fergie time in the league.

No more donkey fellaini please.

Martial and pogba were great. Henrikh needs to play all the time and we get him the ball!

Mata came on and made a huge difference compared to that donkey.

Great win

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm still fecking giddy:lol:

This was an extremely frustrating game. Hitting the post twice, disallowed goal, a penalty call, the ref and luck felt completely against us but we managed to snatch a win at the end in true Fergie fashion on his 75th birthday. I am very pleased we showed the composure and desire to win.

Anyone know what the mourinho interview after the game was like?

Yes it was frustrating as feck but that made it even sweeter at the end when we overcame the dogged resistance of the referee and scored 2 goals that he could not disallow!!!!

Anywhere to see the post-match interviews?

SKY Sports Post Match Interview:

SS: Well done today. How did you think the performance was not including the result?

Many difficult decisions that I felt could have gone the other way. Ibrahimovic could have made better contact, but to be honest, once the ball hit the back of the net, I knew it was going to be disallowed. Not sure why that was, but nevermind that. The result worked itself out. The match report will show 3 goals and yeah. I'm happy with the performance.

SS: Well done Lee. You are today's MOTM. Happy New Year to you and Boro. Cheers.

 Jose just said if it was SAF in the dug out it would have been 3-1

Class from Jose. He has really come into his own as Manchester United manager.

Other than selecting fellaini, he made the right Subs to win us the game despite some awful refereeing.

I became a United fan during the LVG era, and now I've got an idea of what it felt like when Ferguson was United coach, to come from behind late in the game and win, fantastic!
Just being curious - what actually made you fan of united during LVG era ? I mean we weren't exactly pulling trees :)
