or without......

Really impressed with Amrabat, Casemiro and Mount last night. They could become a fantastic midfield trio.
Ye they did great but I highly doubt he’s dropping Bruno for it especially since he’s captain aswell. Bruno will most likely occupy the right wing position anyway. I’m all for Rashford being dropped though. Young lads was very good.

Shaw was brilliant all of last season (barring a meltdown at Anfield along with most of the team), and he's been injured for most of this season. Don't know what you're on about frankly.

Ask yourself how many years Luke Shaw has been at the club, and how many of those seasons has he been good?

I would suggest it's no better than two.

Amrabat has played less than a full game in the position, almost all of it against inferior opposition. Reguilon not a lot more, and also it is quite absurd to argue he's been better than Shaw there.

Which game this season do you think Luke Shaw played well in? Just interested to know.

Past credit shouldn't count for much at this club.

Excellent performance and enjoyable to watch. Casemiro was superb, Amrabat looked very good and a promising half from Mount. Bonus of another clean sheet too.

Palace were woeful though and I expected them to play a stronger side considering they aren't going down and several PL teams are already knocked out or will be in this round.

There was a breath of fresh air blowing around OT last night everyone in his place and doing the job the manager asked, we moved around so quickly and purposely, I was out of breath just watching. I can remember a few times in the game when everyone of our players seem to be moving at the same time, no one just standing still observing.

True the opposition were not up to much, we will see a different Palace on Saturday, but it was how we performed that grabbed the attention. Don't know what the pass rate was but the speed, nature and consistency of much of our passing was quite exhilarating after some of the dross we have seen lately. The youngsters brought that element of 'no fear' we have had previously, also I thought the link up between Casemiro and Amrabat in the second half in midfield gave us a strength and purpose we haven't seen for ages, we looked as if we knew what we were doing, as well as performing well.

I hope it's not a false dawn, but I left OT last night with a post match feeling I haven't experienced for some time and would like it to continue. Well done lads (including the manager).

Good win.. pretty easy, I've watched it back again and Pellistri was fouled before the Goal From the corner.. it was plain he didn't appeal again .. if that was Maguire at the other end it be all over the Internet. Etc saying this that even the commentary didn't say anything.. its unbelievable realy.. its forgotten because we scored from the corner.. Amrabat wow keep it up.. and Maguire had a decent game as well

Most of Shaw's good seasons have come recently which tells me that he's improving as a player...

This is the key here. I posted at half-time that it was a perfect game for us, as Palace were spineless and it was an opportunity for our players to find a little form, and feel good about the game again.

Mount looked good, Amrabat too. Casimero showed how important he is as a passer, when given the opportunity. We have Casimero solely as a ball-winner, and he isn't. We need SMT, Mount, Amrabat to start getting into players faces. Successful Man Utd teams have always been built on powerful, quick, agile, intelligent, combative central midfielders..only Casimero comes close to that and it reflects inthe amount of bookings he picks up. Other players have to show his leadership.

I have noted some people on here mentioning that Amrabat should retain left-back position, and that's just nuts. Look at the difference when Eze and few other decent players came on.

Let's take the good from the game, but let's not get too excited by beating Palace reserves. Listen to the TalkSport show this morning from 10am, where Danny Murphy et al, really lay into Palace for their performance. Hodgson was not happy. So let's keep perspective.

Yeah, hopefully there is no big reaction from Palace on Saturday amd we see more of the same.

For the first time in a long time, I am happy with our midfield options, I still think we need a player like FDJ in there but for now, I think it's good. No one is talking about Maguire as he had a quietly good game and we got to give some kids some minutes. With that being said it's only the league cup against Palace.

You're right re Maguire. We have some v v good ball players at the club: Maguire, Ericksen, Varane, Garnacho, Martinez, Shaw, Bruno, Rashford, Mount, Dalot, Casimero, Lindeholf.. I would now add Amrabat, and, importantly, Onana to that list. That's 14 v good ball-players. I don't expect these players to make bad judgements on the ball, espcially if given time on the ball. When we have a cohort of these players, on the pitch, organised, I think we'should be a match for many teams.

However... we need to compliment this with pace, power, a genuine cutting edge. Rasmus adds this. But I still think we lack it as an attacking unit.

Last night we played a lot of passes, going nowhere really, neither probing, or doing much.. which were due to a lack of movement,or ambition. It was fine, and the benefit was to see players getting lots of touches. Dalot was the outlet, and hopefully Shaw can provide a similar option on the left s Malacia develops. Full backs are key though.. look at Trippier, Roberston and Kyle Walker.. so, so, so essential for the attacking option at a club. We lack that, consistently at the moment. Amrabat is not the answer, nor should he be. Man Utd need to invest in two of the top full-backs.. find them, and get them, because we need them.

What, you want to assess Luke Shaw entirely on his performance in the opening three games of this season, and ignore everything else? Good luck with that.

Yeah. But those are two of the last three seasons. For those, he's been one of the best left backs in the Premier League. Injuries is what worries me with him.

It's mind boggling that you are using our best player of last year, someone who seamlessly slotted in at centre-half when asked, someone who always puts a shift in, as an example of a player that 'mopes around the pitch'. God knows we've got lots of problems at the club, but Shaw isn't one of them.

What a fun match. Hannibal easy MoM for me. Such a joy to watch a midfielder actually play with energy and a great work rate. Along with some skill. Seems like is temper has calmed down too.

Casemiro scores a goal and hits something like 20 key passes, but you go with a player who accomplished pretty much nothing with the ball?

Problem is he gets hurt too much, I don't think he's reliable. We need a player like Reguilon to back up and push over the more raw Malacia, in my humble opinion.
Wouldn't you say Malacia gets hurt too much?

A fact I have just Googled is that PL players get the most injuries out of any in the top 5 leagues. This is most likely due to the physicality, and physical demands so I don't think Shaw getting injured once every 2 seasons is a problem.

Personally I'd like to see Bruno, Hannibal and Mount starting behind Hojlund. It's time to teach Rashford a lesson. Nevermind goals/assists for now, these lads have set the standard for pressing and running, until he can match it, he won't be selected

Agreed it should have been a penalty.

I read lots of comments before I watched the replay and I was expecting a great performance from Casemiro. The first 60 he was better than he has been (not saying much), and then the last 30 he distributed the ball like the old Cas. However, the match was done and he didn't have much pressure so I'm not sure there is much to learn from that. We'll see.

- After that mature performance from Hannibal on Saturday, this performance showed his immaturity. Probably should have been given a 2nd yellow. I like him, though, and looking forward to watching him grow.
- Mount looked good. I too would love to see a Casemiro, Amrabat and Mount midfield at some point.
- Good performances for most of the team and a needed comfortable win.

I'm expecting another 2 good home wins coming up.

I actually found that he was playing a little bit on the edge at times given that he was already on a yellow and there was absolutely no reason to risk anything given the score line and the lack of intensity from the Palace players.

Which full backs would you like to see signed

Which full backs would you like to see signed

No idea. I don't scour the world looking for footballers, that's not my job. If it was, I would. But I am sure there are some very, very highly paid people living incredible lifestyles, who are contracted to Man Utd to do just that. Ask them.

VDB came on as a late sub, but there was a really nice passage of play (70th minute or so) where he did Cruyff turns twice in a row and left his markers on their backs. I know he is persona non grata but maybe... just maybe... he still has a part to play. I think if we play a higher tempo attacking game, he could still prove useful. With Mount and Amrabat playing a dynamic style where they always want the ball, everyone will probably look better, but I think we might see the resurrection of Donny this season.

I agree with your view, the yellow itself was for pulling the player back, but then he followed that up with about 4 or 5 little niggling fouls. The ref could have booked him just for persistent fouling. I think that's the maturity thing, at 20, Hannibal is still playing out of his skin and can't relax, which is what we want, ironically. He had a good game but he needs to cut out the little fouls.

Shaw has been with us for 10 seasons. In 2014 he was on the 40 man Golden Boy list, so I'm guessing that's 1 of your 2. In 2018 he was Players' POTY and Matt Busby award winner, so that must be 2 of 2.
ESPN has him at #6 best in the world in 2022. Four Four Two has Shaw at #2 in their 2023 list of 10 Best Left Backs in the World. Maybe the professional pundits don't know what they're talking about.

If ETH can resurrect Donnie he will be a wizard. A true necromancer!

2014 doesn't count. He was bought in July but he barely played as Blind/ Young covered for LB.

He only has like 2 really good seasons for us. Maybe 3 at max.

That post clearly tells me you didn’t even watch the game

Casemiro was the best player on the field by a country mile, Hannibal while decent gets sent off in a PL /CL for persistent fouling .

We need Luke Shaw back, no matter how good the others have been playing on his position. There's no question.

I actually found that he was playing a little bit on the edge at times

Yes, he was, but in the past our very best players were those who can 'play on the edge', but not go over it. Hannibal needs to acquire discretion and how to play on the edge, but it will get coached out of him no doubt... for the great good of course.

He was definitely lucky not to be sent off, just for accumlation of petty offences. In the first half against Burnley there were at least three occasions where he'd lose a challenge or a player would go past him and he'd have a little grab at the opponent. Didn't get pulled up for it but it was there, clear as day. I feel like the manager was testing him by leaving him on so long against Palace. If he'd got himself sent off, that might have been the end of his first-team chances. Certainly in the short term anyway.

At least he's stopped doing that thing where he'd get aggy with the opponent after almost any 50/50 challenge. So that's a positive step. But he seriously needs to control his impulsiveness and channel his aggression in the right way or he's gonna blow his chance.

personally i think the best group would be

onana
dalot varane martinez shaw
casemiro amrabat
mount bruno rashy
hojlund

Mount is used to playing right wing for chelsea and he can play inside forward....but to be fair pellestri and hannibal have done really well so far
I think so too, surely with Antony not being available and AWB.
