FA W FA Cup Semi-Final

Coventry City 3:3 Manchester United

It is flukey obviously, but I also think the way AWB chooses to block the shot is so bad, you're basically inviting something unliucky to happen.

If you're going to try block a shot you have to do it with force, you can't dangle a lazy-leg or turn your back like that - you're asking for it to loop in.

If anything our 3rd goal was more flukey, as their defender was at least trying to make a decent block.

Could say that but I guess we’ve also created a shooting position very close to their goal which will always be dangerous. They’ve had a potshot from 25 yards and it’s looped up top bins.

Yeah true, I just hate how AWB both cowered and turned his back on the shot.

Yeah we definitely cause it ourselves sometimes with dangly legs but even so the amount that actually fly in is crazy  I just remembered that Newport one too that flew in off Varane’s head.

Shame of a game. Simple continuity of the poor games we have recently.

Players haven't the mentality to compete, doesn't care, doesn't believe at all.

After this performance many should have a look at themselves.

If someone who didn't know anything about football watched that extra time period, they would say that Coventry is the Premier League team and United is the Championship one.

Was travelling so only saw the highlights. Coventry scored 1 good goal, 1 lucky deflection and a very dubious penalty.

Take the win, move on.

Yeah, I think so too. Maybe a bit much being made of it for me. We're all over the place as soon as we concede and come under pressure so that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

First Coventry goal he's shinned it in, second one is an absolutely mad deflection that could have gone anywhere but ended up looping into the net, third is a penalty given where a player is actively trying to get his arm out of the way which is almost never given.

We were actually quite unfortunate with every goal in some capacity, that good fortune for them gave them belief and energy to keep going. Our mentality is the worrying part, as we didn't really get going again in extra time.

It's ifs and buts because these things did happen, but I reckon we could have just as easily walked out 2-0 or 3-1 winners and noone would have really cared.

There are so many things to be said about that shambles, but top of the list for me is Antony. You're an absolute disgrace to this club.
Nah he is just not good enough. The biggest disgrace is Rashford with his throwing in the towel cameo anytime he is fed up with current manager. His new special move is now also faking an injury as he didn't fancy playing the ET.

I agree with him not being good enough, but it was his behaviour after the penalties i was on about. Rashford needs to be sold in the summer, he has checked out.

Was going to have a little moan as it's a Monday morning and I'm still getting over yesterday but after a quick scan of the thread to catch up it appears I'm not a real fan as I wasn't at the game and can't moan as fans didn't 34 years ago. Better up my game then. Rah rah, pip pip, c'mon team, happy happy clap clap, we are just wonderful.

I’m sure many United fans did back then, the difference now is the social media era where with a click of a button you can see millions of fans moaning online.
Not at matches they didn't

They definitely looked the more likely to score in extra time. Overall, it was a tightly contested game between two evenly matched teams, which itself is a damning indictment of where United are at.

Nope, well I can, but I don’t want to be called a conspiracy theorist.
I'm not 100% on this but didn't the defender get a touch with his head before it hit his arm?

If that is the case then it's not a penalty but if he didn't then it sure as hell is

What an FA Cup run, 4-2 Newport, Casemiros late goal against Forest, 4-3 ending Weetabix teeths chance of a trip to Wembley then yesterday against Coventry. Has there ever been a spawnier run?

And we were so unbelivably shit for the next 60 minutes that yeah, Coventry probably did deserve to win.

In fact we were pretty much straight garbage from 60 minutes onwards.

Even up to 60 minutes it was garbage. I called it porridge football yesterday, which was harsh on porridge, it was just bland and did what you needed it to do.

Should have been a routine win at 3-0. But nothing is routine with these players, you could see the first 2 Coventry goals coming a mile away. Lazy defending, not closing people down, dumb players out of position, people pointing and not just taking charge of the situation. The penalty for me shouldn't be given, but comes about from poor defending.

These players are just lazy and have a horrible attitude to the game, we've seen it time and time again. No desire, no aggression, almost like what Arsenal were like under Wenger for the last few years, zero fight, aimless passing and players who clearly just don't give a shit once they keep getting their big fat pay cheques.

At 3-0 up I was happy we were on our way to the FA Cup Final.

By the end of the penalty shootout, I was relieved that we were on our way to the FA Cup Final.

We just capitulated. Unbelievable.

Anyway, the main thing is we made it through, and although City are the overwhelming favourites, Chelsea have shown that chances can be created against them, but we will have to be very clinical on the day to stand any chance of winning the match.

This team don't half put you through it, in the words of the Greatest:
"Football, bloody hell"

I'm seeing many people sharing the sentiment of 'Poor little Coventry. They deserved to win'. Coventry were absolutely hopeless.

As for us, I was staggered by how fans around me were cheering and celebrating that win yesterday. It baffled me where they got their enthusiasm from. For 45 minutes I was standing there in a silent rage. Easily the most angry I have ever been in a football stadium. Pathetic.

Similarities between 1990 and 2024.

We beat Forest 1-0 during the cup run.
We drew 3-3 with a second tier side in the semi final.
Manager constantly under pressure.

Yes, we were dogshit in the second half and I can excuse any United supporter who was distraught when we won the pk shootout, although I was thrilled we won the game. But all three Coventry goals were freak goals:

The ball came off the player’s knee.
The deflection of the century.
A pk off a handball decision I agree with, but one could make a solid case it was not a handball.

Yes, I agree, it could well be our turn this year, "the force (lady lucky) is definitely with us".
In the final 1 minute to go, Rashford trying to get out of the way of a shot finds it hits his ar** and deflects in... I can see it now!

Headlines day after... "Rashford 'rear-ends' City"

How can we lose a 3-0 lead, escape with the assistance of VAR, and still win on penalties?

I swore I could hear the strains of the 'Great Escape' playing in the background as Rasmus fired in the last penalty.

If it's not our year to win the FA cup this year.... it never will be

The magic of the cup. Even though we are massive underdogs you have got to be looking forward to an FA Cup final against City.

Can’t get over how bad that game went.

Still think VAR f**ked us out of a peno.

The gas thing is that your man was offside in the buildup to their 4th, but now there’s a national outcry even though that’s the f**king rule.

Im as angry as anybody about that game, but had United gotten the peno they got and they didn’t get ours there would be chaos. Had United scored a last minute goal disallowed like theirs , there would be nothing mentioned.

Oddly enough , the chaos of uniteds play has over shadowed a lot of crap decisions going against us (“VAR club check). It is a frustration for me with ETH that he doesn’t speak up about it. Maybe he feels he doesn’t have the same authority as the relentless whinge-bags at the tip of the league but we definitely get f**ked a lot and it’s only when something sort of goes our way that we hear about things.

I mean Wimbledon beat that great Liverpool team of the 80s so anything is possible in a one off.

I think by the time comes around I will be happy to be in the final but maybe not exactly he dieing for it. We’ve got a chance, it’s just this season is tough and most of us want it to go away I guess

I do like the phrase 'top bins' . It's so daft. One of the female commentators used it the other day and it made me smile.

i have just about calmed down after the latest episode yesterday, that was a tough watch. My thinking is that with all the breaks we got in this competition this season the name could be on the cup.

I'm not so sure we can bemoan the deflected goals and penalties with the number of attempts on goal we concede.

With the ball pinging around, deflections and handball shouts are going to happen.

Agree, nobody has mentioned there pen! AWB was moving his arm away from the ball and it's given.. VAR look at this a deam it not an Error from the Ref?.. now there's a game Everton v Forest and similar situation NO PEN.. no VAR either?... there offside was offside.. ETH doesn't speak up about it.. and if that team was one of Arsenal , Dippers or City .. no way the ref blows ..

No extra time no Drama game over 3-2 a little gripe about the goals conceded, .. that's it..
Nobody mentioned the pen call.. poor

We drew 3- 3 with Oldham in 1990.I don't remember our own fans whinging about that back then. Fans used to support the bloody team not whine like entitled bitches.

if Fergie kept subbing scholes and giggs in the 70th minute then losing over and over again I’m sure our fans would have whinged, Oldham was also a close game not us throwing away a 3-0 lead stupidly

If.If there was social media in Fergie's day he would have been sacked long before 1990.
Subbing Garnacho & Mainoo, two kids basically , made perfect sense. I think Garnacho has played 30 consecutive games!
Beats me why he's not giving Amad more time though.

The hate we’re getting online and in the media since this game has been glorious tbh, it’s made winning like that even better. Some absolute hilarious stuff from opposition fans and even our own fans

Nonsense. ETH is still in a job despite that. The thing with social media is you can ignore it...

There was nothing really wrong with the performance until Coventry scored their first. Sure, it wasn't perfect but we were very comfortable.

The subs put us on the backfoot.

I'm also not convinced the players are lazy. They're clearly still trying and fighting for the manager. The issue is most of them aren't good enough. The question is, could a different manager get anything more out of them? If not, that's probably a case for keeping the manager. At least until there's a long term option available.
