Was a great tactic from Brighton, if you notice how they suck in all our midfield and attack by holding it deep and playing out well from the back, it left so many easy balls to an empty middle of the pitch. Should of been addressed and our high press restrained. Just my view.
Yeah, they do this regularly. We coped well with it in the first half by sitting off and staying with their men in midfield so they had to force the longer passes but that completely changed in the second. I think they tweaked how they were building up and we didn't adapt at all.

Painful watching sky sports break down how they are able to press out so efficiently compared to us

It seems to me everybody is unanimous and watched what happened clearly. Did they show multiple angles of the Luke Shaw incident? On my stream, they only showed one angle and you couldn't even see Luke Shaw's full body, you only saw an arm and the ball. I remember the rule about if a player has his back turned and the ball hits his arm it's not a handball. I'm not saying it happened this way, it's just that I think the ref shouldn't be able to make a call like that without watching the whole incident. It's super weird.

I mean, It looked like a penalty to me, because his hand was so high but I didn't see the angle from the other position where you'd see Luke Shaw's full body. Did they really not show this angle? Why not? Would have been a much more convincing angle to begin with. Why only show one?
As per ref was shown edited content to make it look as bad as possible and then gave it.

Not seen any other angle.

every game we play is a cup to most of these teams. How many international games have any of these Brighton players played? How about our players, on top of us playing for four trophy's for a lot of the year? I get that they're professional footballers but I honestly don't know if it's an issue. How many total games have our boys played compared to the teams we've played the last few months? Might be useful information to study. When we're forced to play Weghorst every single game, the cupboard is bare. Nice lad though.

sorry, it’s distinctly average. Who have we played in the cup runs? Barcelona, that’s it. The rest of the teams we’ve played have been shit, championship or lower league premier league teams.

we’ve won 0 big games away from home all season. ZERO! Some fecking ride. 49 goals all season in the league, some ride. Been twatted at City, Liverpool, Brentford, Newcastle, scraped a win at Fulham, some ride.

Weve been good at home, shite away. We’re Stoke with fast players

Average compared to what?

Our away form is poor, I agree. Though we should have picked up points against Arsenal and Brighton as well as all 3 v Spurs. It's definitely an area Ten Hag has some learning to do.

As for who we played on the cups, it's largely irrelevant. You still have to beat them and that's what we have done. I wouldn't say every cup game has been a bye.

Again though, it's a transition season. Back in August we would all have been delighted with top 4 and a cup. We are on course for that and possibly a little bit extra on top.

We are a WIP. This season has shown us that having a good first 11 isn't enough for where we want to be. When you're playing 3 full backs in the 34th game of the league season you need to think about how to avoid that next season.

Away record against the top 9 clubs:
Played 9
Won 0
Drew 1
Lost 8
Goals for 8
Goals against 28

Beyond f*cking scandalous.

Someone please tell me for the love of Christ what is the fuxking point of subbing on WW.
Martial was largely wank but we have to replace him with an actual footballer.

Who else was there to bring on? The tank is empty. The tires are down to the .

I agree to a degree but it doesn't matter "who the fk we are" We have been run into the ground for years and in a year that we might have won several trophy's, the scum who own us chose dividends to themselves over what was good for the team and us fans. Glazers COMPLETELY the F OUT.
Again with the excuses. What has that to do with Brighton? They have worse players on paper, a worse manager on paper, spent less than us on transfers, have a thinner worse squad and bench. Even with the Glaziers in charge and dividends etc we should not be owned and outplayed and beaten by fking Brighton. There are no excuses.

One step forward and two steps back. Please tell me Liverpool aren't going to catch us as I keep seeing it.

No wonder our attacking play is miserable when we have Antony and Martial, and two inept fullbacks.

Antony is beyond crap.

And Rashford had a bad night.

Still, it's Martials nonchalance that irks me.
Maybe it's just me.
Maybe Tony had a great game and I'm just mad and taking it out on him.
Nah, no one was good and he missed his chance as well (at least it was on target).

But he provides structure to our attack (in the absence of quality). If Rashford and Antony passed, he might have scored.

I'm just so lived with these clowns.

Let's be honest for all of Sky pulling their trousers down and wanking over Brighton they won the game due to a fluke penalty that nobody saw but Var, which came from a shockingly bad referee decision to give a free for nothing.
The game was petering out to a nil nil draw before then.
Yeah we were poor in the second half but we didn't deserve that in the end.

Seeing us pinned down in our box by Brighton hanging on for dear life. Just sad. I expected more from ETH to be honest

I badly want to be able to reach into my TV and slap Jamie Redknapp, what an absolute shithouse he really is. He can’t hide his disdain for unit’ed and his love for the dippers can he, and that prick Alan Smith……they piss me off more than losing……rant out.

Idiot on Sky

Man Utd didn't do enough. Brighton were the better team.

Not really how it played out.

First half was very promising and then we completely went off the boil after half time.
Not the first time we’ve done this.
Has to be addressed
We are so wasteful in front of goal, it’s ridiculous.
Martial needs to be fuxked off in the summer, genuinely a waste of rations in so many respects.

I've seen us pinned down, utterly dominated, embarrassed and more in the recent past. Today was not one of those days.

Paul Ince seems to hate us too.

Redknapp pretty much gobbling off Dunk.

Just remembered he wears Sketchers. No slap will ever top the shame he feels from that.

Wetting themselves over Brighton alright and that was no foul by Shaw before the corner that led to the goal so a big rub of the green for them. Had United won in that manner there would be some crying about it.

For all the so-called chances Brighton got the best one they got came from a United error and came off De Geas head. They didn't get chances like the ones Martial, Bruno and Rashford got and wasted.

Could have gone either way but Brighton was the better team

this is very near sighted. The rot set in by over spending on players who were average at best on paper. To say they are better than united is laughable.

Wan Bissaka
Dalot
Lindelof

have all been derided for years but they are still here

Fred is awful
Sabitzer is on loan
Eriksen a free transfer

Rashford having a good season but still misses probably more chances than anyonein the league

martial absolutely abysmal
Sancho absolutely zero fight

All of these players are here (Rashford exception) because of how the glazers operate

it is going to be another couple of years after they are gone before the culture of the above players is gone from the club

the culture breeds what is and is not acceptable and that comes from the top. That facilities mediocrity right now

One day we'll play a match where we dont come out half asleep for the second half and give away a stupid goal and where we keep playing until the final whistle goes so we dont give away a stupid late goal. If we dont concentrate for every minute against City in the final I really do fear for us; the worst scoreline in a cup final was in1902/03 when Bury defeated Derby 6 - 0; I dread City doing that, or worse, to us.

Tonight we played well against a top class side. We were comfortably as good in the first hour and could have been ahead.

The key differences was when the teams started to tire, Brighton’s bench all made an impact. And what did we have to bring on to win the game. Sancho (dreadful season), Sabitzer (ok but not going to do anything out the ordinary) & Weghorst (it’s like he’s won a competition to play for united for half a season). Our lack of a top class finisher up front and a decrepit bench is the reason why we lose games like this over and over again away from home. Big summer ahead hoping we can hold on to 4th place.

Dunk pulling Shaw off balance leads the hands in an unnatural position.. the sort of thing referees just don’t take in to account. fecking pathetic. This Brighton loving is getting on my tits as well, you’d think they were the second coming of Barcelona the way sky are wanking them off. Shit night.
Shaw knew the second the ref was called to the screen it was a penalty. Absolutely no complaints from him which wouldn't of been the case if he was impeded.

And what's wrong with calling it as it is with Brighton playing us off the park in the second half? They played some great football and deserved the win.

We should look more closely at ourselves as a team Instead of blaming everything and everyone for another shit performance.

So you are saying Brighton are better than us and we should just accept that we did the best we could.

Mate they’re the 8th placed team in the league, I understand the love in with them cause they indeed play good football but the last couple of months show just how far off we are if we’re talking about a good hour in games we lose.

I thought this, there’s definitely another angle of that incident that could lead to a foul from Dunk.

That said Shaw has to be smarter, I understand Dunk has a hold of him but it happens on every set piece.

I mean, that's sort of on our manager isn't it? Nice to win a trophy earlier this season but did we need to go full strength throughout the Europa? Not at all. I get he's trying to instil a winning mentality and culture, but if we do fall short of top 4/lose the FA Cup, it's definitely a contributing factor.

But our issue is what we've known for far too long. Good first team options, feck all in reserve. That's on the owners and we need that shite sorted fecking soon.

We need that win against West Ham on Sunday. They aren't exactly clear of the relegation battle so it won't be an easy match. I am sure they will be up for it. If our players play like the first half whole match, we will win. If any part of the second half is on display, it will be another painful watch for 90 mins.
We can’t play well for 90 mins. Factor in the injuries and fatigue as well and we should be delighted with 30-45 mins of okay football with us generally on top and be thankful for any sort of a win. Realistically, the away form is bad and a defeat would not be a shock at all.

Games like this when watched, not just felt, really show where we are lacking. For me, far more so than a thrashing to City.

Even with injuries, our defence and midfield were good, particularly the players in the middle, Shaw, Lindelof, Casemiro and Bruno. Then fit Licha and Varane also join that list. Shaw and Lindelof kept getting to first balls and closing down, Casemiro kept recovering possession and Bruno consistently found passes into the right spaces for our attackers. In addition, Rashford was always threatening, always making the right runs and tried pressing.

The problem we had and we've kept having for some time is that our attackers outside of Rashford offer no threat at all. I don't even mean poor production, but truly no threat. Consistently poor touches, unable to take advantage of one on one situations, can't win the ball in the air, can't out muscle defenders and always on the wrong side of the ball. It's a consistent theme, outside of Rashford.

Why was it so apparent. Our attackers couldn't trap anything, and even in instances where they did like Antony, they couldn't do anything with it. At one point, Martial managed to get possession, due to his lack of agility, he had to turn his entire body around so he could dribble to the centre with his right foot, despite the fact he could have made quicker more decisive moves with better technique and body control. Yet he's somehow classed as a good dribbler. Unless the ball falls on a plate to them, with endless space ahead, they don't threaten. Even when they get the space, due to lacking intensity, they can hold the ball up and still do nothing with it.

Now compare that to Brighton. Even with supposedly less talented players in attack, when they played the ball forward, it stuck. Mitoma, Welbeck, Enciso, March and McAllister usually had good touches, were agile and aware enough to keep the ball under pressure, we decisive enough to keep the game moving and we're willing to dribble and take on our players when the space was there to dribble. Only Rashford was willing to do that and has been, which is why he's scored so much. Our midfielders create a lot of opportunities to attack, Rashford is the only one who takes it.

10 seconds away from a good result away at a very good team. One moment of madness cost us. We were decent first half and had a couple of good chances. 2nd half we were poor. Brighton passed us out of the game.
Are we flagging second half's due to playing every 3 days since xmas. Has to be a factor.
win the 3 home games and top 4 is sealed. We will grind it out.
A point would have been a good result considering our lack of goals and generally poor form. Winning three out of three home games would be great but it really looks less likely every minute that goes by.

Harsh result but we only have ourselves to blame with the chances we missed in the first half, and the lack of control over the game in the second. Frankly lucky to finish with 11 men.
