Smalling and Shaw did their jobs.

McTominay and Fred were the pick of the bunch. Bossed it tonight, 2nd half especially.

Our so called match winners - Lukaku, Rashford and Pogba were complete pants, totally anonymous. As for Young, he isn't even Huddersfield standard, let alone Man Utd.

Barca could have scored 2 more. We at our best at the game couldn't even tried a single shot on Stegen!.
Paul didn't do enough, so if Ole rates him as our best player then he should think again.

Rashford needs to stop acting and playing like a big superstar player because he is fecking far from it, and Ole can't sub him off till too late.

Can't fault loads with gameplan ,discipline. Dalot and rashford should have both scored, and our crossing from the right was zero out of ten. Our 'best' player was outplayed by mctominay Fred and all Barcelona midfielders. But he had a good laugh with vidal at full time so it's all good

Feared the worst after the first ten minutes but impressed how we battled back. Fred and McTominay were very good but our attacking was poor and our right side needs major surgery in the summer but we knew that.

Poor defensive work on the goal & a Lack of quality cost us tonight otherwise a very good hearted performance from the lads. Not over yet but it’s going to be much harder there. Still in it & who knows.

McT had a monster performance MOTM.

Was worried after the first 15 mins but we out hustled them and played well in midfield, just a shame about the quality up top.

Some of the messages I've read on here are baffling.

Yeah got a feeling people have unrealistic expectations. This was about as good as we could play with our current team against Barcelona.

Pretty good performance i felt. Fred and Mctominah were very good. Pogba was good in the first half but poor in the second half. Young was just terrible.

I would have kept Lukaku on with the crosses we were doing at the end.

Do United use to play with 5 in the back?
I ask because it is a very particular system, that you have to work. It is not something to improvise in a game of this height.

Under Jose yeah lots of times

No cutting edge and a lack of composure let us down tonight, midfield did very well, especially young Scott who looks very much a big game player, his attitude reminds me so much of Darren Fletcher.

We never had a chance at with Young and Lukaku - it was basically 9 v 11.

Mctominay and Fred stand out players, in fact most of our young inexperienced players played well.Way short on the quality up front. Pogba and Young shite yet again.Youngs crossing is appalling. Lingard as usual non existant.

Learnt a lot tonight. Not unhappy with the situation personally

Young - been a supporter of his over the years but we definitely need to call time on him now

McTominay - becoming a player. Certainly in the mix for next season

Fred - I like him but he always has a cock up in the locker

Dalot - emerging as a real prospect

The rest pretty much performed as expected

Tactics - pretty much spot on, which I why I think we are still in this. Stop them playing out from the back and they are, well not quite ordinary, but hampered for certain. I think we play exactly the same way over there and hope for a bit more decisiveness in the final third. It's our best hope with the squad as it is.

I'm somewhat hopeful for next season. Something tells me Ole will know exactly what we need and we will go and get it.

Showed a lot of energy and will power but beyond that there was no quality and sting to United's play.

Didn't get battered should not be enough. We had more than ample space and opportunities to make something happen, no shots on target at home is ridiculous. Our end product is shocking and when the subs came on they were ineffectual, subbing Dalot off instead of Young was an awful decision as he was making inroads down the flank. Hopefully we can nick one early next week and put them under some pressure.

Ashley Young plays like he's shop-lifted and is trying to move around without looking suspicious according to the Twitterati

Our standards have fallen so badly that I am not distraught after a loss at home without a shot on target. We did well in the game taking out current state in mind. Still not good enough for a club of our stature. Some of the players are stealing a living. The biggest one is captain Disastrous. It'll baffle me for a long time how Young completed the full 90 minutes in this game. He should have been taken off at half time.

The ineptness of our attack was on full display again. I don't care what anyone says but we need to bring in a top class striker. We cannot go into another season with Rashford and Lukaku as our options. We also need to add another goal scorer to the mix. Eddie should find out if Griezmann is interested in a move here this time.

The midfield, which I was dreading before the game, was the best part of our team today. Fred and McTommy were excellent in there. They won and intercepted so many balls, and controlled the game for large swathes. Which is an anomaly for a Manchester United midfield against any top team. Pogba was good too.

Dalot did well and so did Smalling. Lindelof has reverted to type. And we were lied to about his ball playing skills.

Disappointing result. We should have at least got a draw.

Well we have Pogba for that. Fred did his part and did it very, very good.
He could have offered more. Some of his passing wasn't at the very highest level, which is what you need if you want to beat Barca.
He was good, very good, but not great. I am looking for greatness in the team.

We also played much better than against PSG. Lots of positives to take from this game despite the loss, we are headed in the right direction.

Pogba gets judged by entirely different standards to other players, he was in now way poor. Best player on the pitch in the first half and was certainly still our biggest threat in the second. People literally expect him to take on the entire team and score a hattrick every game

It's hard to disagree, isn't it?
It's about the pre game perception. The world takes us as the underdogs rather than clash of titans.
This needs changing.
The world continually overrates Barca though. We were underdogs but in reality it's not by much.
Perception doesn't mean a great deal. Worthless even.
Fans tend to buy into narratives a bit too much in modern football. Who really cares? We are competing with the best and have a fantastic record in big games over the last 18 months.

How Young continues to get game time is beyond me,but it won't change anytime soon,4 losses in 5 matches for Ole now, honeymoon period well and truley over no doubt about that, just a shame the same players can't be consistent and put in a shift when needed, the worry is that,United could of played a 5 hour match tonight and still not score. I think United need an experienced attacker leading the line,Martial & Rashford are not it,and Lukaku well he might as well not even put his boots on.

Helluva result. You can't be unhappy with that tonight. Goal was a fluke and we just couldn't get a decent strike off however, midfield and defense did their jobs fantastically. Bring on the 2nd leg.

Let me make it easy for you - we don't have any other better right backs in our multi billion team.

Apart from Fred and Scott there’s not many positives you can take from this game.

I blame Ole for bad tactics and too much respect at the start of the game.
Substitutes were awful too.
Bad read and judgment. Could have done lot better.

The best thing about tonight was playing that same fast tempo, high pressing game we did when Ole first arrived. It's a shame Rashford picked tonight to have one of his worst performances of the season because we deserved a draw at the very least. This game has given me hope for the rest of the season. The crowd were clearly happy as they were chanting right up to the final whistle.

We can turn this lot over at the Nou Camp if we play in a similar fashion, that and our strikers deciding not playing like shit.

Nervy start cost us. Some encouraging signs for the second leg given our record this season.

Its harsh to single out individuals tonight but Ashley Young really was very fortunate to be given a new contract. Very poor footballer.

Plenty of positives to take from that imo. Nothing like 2009 or 2011. We looked comfortable for long periods of the game. Obviously the lack of chances is disappointing, but Barca hardly had a lot themselves and the goal was scabby as feck. Every chance we can pinch it in Barcelona. Less of an uphill battle than PSG away was.

A decent performance until it came to the final ball or cross. Another very good showing from McTominay, and a decent outing for Fred. Smalling versus Messi and Suarez? - no contest (as we expected!) - Mike was a monster.

We do need to sort out the quality of our crossing generally: Young was particularly poor in that regard, but there wasn't much being delivered from the left flank either.

I thought Pogba might deliver a big performance tonight against a team that wouldn't close him down as quickly as happens in the Premier League, but it was another rather fitful outing from him.

Yeah, because "playing like a typical English player like Welbeck" is so clear and concise.

3 free kicks, not tested the keeper once, poor harried shot in the box, failed to control the ball free in space and straight on goal, its totally like Welbeck today.

Well not hattrick but to take the game by the scruff surely and he's capavle of that. Of course he's judged to different standards cause he's the most talented.

Perception is built over the performances, the quality of the team and the chance we get to go through. In a way it doesn't matter, but in a way it shows how far we are in the quality ladder.

We are competing with the best 8 in Europe this year and we are one of them. It's just quite clear that the team looks a bit like Frankenstein - bits and pieces from here and there. We lack direction.

Some of the comments from PlayStation generation on here ffs.

The manager took over when the whole club was on its arse has been in charge for 3 months and we have just gone toe to toe with barca in the CL last 8 and lost by an 1 own goal but played well.

Don't forget we where totally schooled by this team on 2 CL finals under Fergie but no barca fan would have begrudged us a point tonight.
