Aston Villa 1:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sky did their absolute best and not showing any decisions that went against United today. Really strange not to see some of the replays

That is a great result. Villa at home this season have been excellent and like Newcastle last year, they seem to be getting the most out of every player. A run of form is starting to develop and this is nothing to complain about.

I’m a neutral (Porto fan) and this is the most solid United has look since Fergie left.

Huge performance from Onana and the squad just has that it factor that it’s going to score even with lower possession. A Real Madrid type of strategy, which also works at the highest level

I think you misunderstand if you think this lvl of play will give consistent results.
I would rather loose and play consistantly good, than play like this and get odd lucky results.
In my 30+ years of following United, this is the worst version i have seen so far.
Bad manager coupled with unlikable, fotball stupid players.

If we dont make massive changes this summer, nothing will change.
ETH cant even set up a defence properly.

Big, big win to keep our season alive basically.

Villa could've scored 1-2 more no doubt but never thought it was a 'smash and grab' like some people suggest. It was open for either team to win it at 1-1 and we did. Great 3 points against a side above us in the table. And away at home, those wins rarely ever happen these days so will enjoy it.

Result wise, it's a 10 out of 10. Our first win away to a top half team in God knows how long, and against a CL rival to boot. A villa win and we were out of the race.

Performance wise, maybe a 6 out of 10. Good attacking play in patches but we rarely seem to exert any control of games, and teams can cut through us quite easily. We lose possession too easily and it sets us up to be counterattacked far too often. Defence and Onana held up very well under the circumstances.

But Villa away is one of the toughest fixtures in the league this season (although they've gone a bit off the boil recently) so I'm gonna enjoy the win tonight!

Horrible performance.
Ten Hag is just a bad manager.
I really dont care if we win or loose anymore.

Martinez and Shaw out and we are back to panic mode defensivly.

Yeah I don’t think you should bother watching then if you’re not arsed if we win.

I’d hardly say we were in panic mode either. It wasn’t the best defensive performance but it was hardly a disaster.

Late winner in a tough away fixture and your first thought is to get a sly dig in at the match winner.

Don’t need ‘fans’ like you. Jog on.

Not a dig. I don't have time to have digs at players. That's juvenile. That's my genuine opinion.

You are not the gatekeeper of united Fandom. You jog on.

Of course it wasn't smash and grab, doom mongers just go to extremes like usual.

Incredible result and we defended well but they were cutting through us so much. Gave up a lot for chances to them. We are very beatable still but we are getting the breaks now

Describing us as solid as mental, we have had many periods of being more solid (under mourinho, lvg, ole and last season) and few periods of being anymore open

Huge win, well done boys. Love Scotty off the bench.

Another 23 shots against us though, this is unsustainable. We do not control any games with arguably our best front 6. It’s a coaching issue that ETH still hasn’t sorted out.

Your first thought after getting a late win V Villa was you hope that means Mctominay doesn’t play more.

Perfectly normal that. I’m sure it was the first thing on the away ends mind whilst leaving the stadium.

No true football fan of any club would say that, at the endo of the day the only thing that really matters is winning

Awful post. Go away

Great result against a very good opponent away with a mostly uninspiring performance. Annoyingly it looked good up until Hojlund scored and then the bed was promptly covered with diarrhoea.

This type of performance can happen to even the best club around at any given time. It’s all about whether there’s more convincing and comprehensive performances than those.

If we play like this against Luton next week, then it’s worrying.
If we play like this against any team currently not sitting in a European spot in the league, then it’s a problem.

Yeah that's my first thought. So? And yeah not everyone is thinking that. So?

The sack thread has gone a bit quiet hasn't it?
Is this how you want next season to look???
Performances like this more than anything should be making us sack him at the end of the season, but as much as we like to act like top 4 isn't a trophy, for some fans, it clearly is.

Hojlunds goals have ZERO to do with his form. Its a combination of his teammates finally passing the ball to him and a bot of luck with loose balls in the penalty area.
I agree, I’m sorry if I came across that way. It absolutely is because of other players actually not being selfish and passing to him, which is good. I’ve been very complainant of his lack of service, and thankfully he’s now receiving decent service and scoring for fun, basically.

If you play consistantly good you will win more over time than getting odd lucky results.
Its not brain surgery.
We play like #"¤% most of the time.
Nothing has changed that, not even this win.

I get where he's going. We'd all like to win, but at this point, with us not being in a title challenge, performances are far more important that results. Performances are what should be determining whether we keep our manager or not, not results, not at this stage.

The fear is that people take results and then we keep Ten Haag, have another season where we are in this same position

Granted but you can't turn form on and off you have to play your way into it. If results keep coming over the next few weeks the patterns of play will improve with confidence.

Missed the game. How was Dalot? Was he vulnerable defensively as he sometimes is?

From watching the highlights, Onana is starting to show what he is capable of. Really pleased for him.

We play the weirdest football. 4-1-5 in the build up. We try and break the press with a pass through the lines and then overload on the breakaway. It can be effective but it gives us no control of games and can leave us horribly exposed.

Good win today, good run we are on, but I am miles from convinced.

Casemiro and Mainoo is the only midfield pairing that works.

McT the new super sub.

So we put in crap perfomances but win games we keep the manager

We put in good performances but lose games we sack him

Perhaps there's some logic there but I'm damned if I know what it is!

Pathetic. Probably worst post in here.

I‘m ecstatic we have Garnacho and Mainoo for starters.
