PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 2:2 Aston Villa

Post-match discussion

Sun, 01 December 2019

With City and Spurs coming up we will be around 14th before the Christmas fixtures. Given our threadbare squad and lack of any quality to bring on I genuinely see us teetering above the relegation zone.

Shambolic once again! That's it now for Solskjaer, he'll be back in Norway for his turkey dinner. Ironically though it may be Jose who hammers in the final nail on Wednesday night.

We had some good balls across the front of their goal while our players who should have been alert to such balls, where standing around scratching their asses. Especially early in first half most of those balls were from James. We obviously have no proper striker

The thing about this is that not one single person will be able to do anything with Fred and Pereira in the midfield. We will probably look better with McT. and Pogba if he ever comes back but to go through managers is pointless with this squad.
No it's not. Tons of managers can do better than Ole with this squad on account of being better managers than him.

Also, Ole was the one who somehow deemed Periera to be a United midfielder this season.

What's pointless is to pretend nobody can do better than a struggling manager.

Style of play's fine, with better players in centre mid that would have been a comfortable win. It's about getting the right players in in the next two transfer windows. Pereira and Fred shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. Brandon Williams may have scored a cracking goal last week but he's understandably green and Luke Shaw just needs clearing out. Put in 3 proper first-teamers there and the side wins today.

The one positive I keep at the moment is that our deficiencies are so clear that we will improve rapidly.

How Mata/Perriera are near our starting team is mental.
What I just don't get is that no matter WHO we get as replacements, they will suck.

AWB and Maguire were supposed to improve the team. Most thought they would!

Terrible performance yes but will getting rid of Ole change things? Maybe some fresh faces in January for defence and mid field.

4 wins in 14 league games. No other top club anywhere would accept that (as evidenced recently), doesnt matter how much of a transition we are in.

This is a good point, those *ugly goals* Solskjaer talked about Martial getting at the start of the season were there for the taking today, and he wasn't there on his toes being alert, he was on the edge of the box standing and shrugging.

Really disappointed with the result. Lucky that Graelish missed just before we scored. Amazing ball from Pereira for Rashford header. Decent header by Lindelof. Gutted Martial missed the chance to score the winner.
Well that’s an accurate assessment of the game.

tell me what would you have done differently with a midfield of Fred , Pereira and Harmer to choose from today

Fred and Pereira are the worst 3 I’ve ever seen in our midfield but we have no other options .Martial
The most overrated player in the prem we have little up fromt and nothing in midfield

Jose could do nothing with this lot ( and he bought half of them ) do what can you expect , yeh let’s sack Ole when we all know that the squad absolutely stinks .
He needs 2 more windows it would be idiotic to sack h and start AGAIN at this stage

Agree, Ole cant do anything with this players. They are limited players and only great coaches are able to get great performances from limited players, Ole is not a great coach.

If we are going to persist with him we should buy 11 world class players, they may be able to hide Ole’s incompetence.

Ole won't get sacked because United will beat Spurs confortably. You will see a difference in players attitude against Mourinho. Then it will get back to normal shite

Fair result. Atrocious first half, we were much better in the second but probably not enough to win the game.

It's hard to argue that Maguire is better than Lindelof at this point and our full backs have weaknesses that can be exploited by any manager.

We do lack so much quality and it was a mid-table clash where both teams could not be separated.

But Ole can't be defended anymore: starting Pereira once again after last week, leaving Mata on for so long, giving Greenwood just 7 minutes to make an impact.

He's a very poor manager and this can't go on. We're not an experiment.

Out of interest, who would you have started in central midfield over Pereira? I don't mean that Pereira is good, obviously not, but what would the call be?

Well we huffed and we puffed again. No top striker again. How long we gonna rely on Martial to get us the goals? How many crosses did James put in and no one in the box? What does Periera do? Fred slightly better.

Really hope Pogba and McTominay is can play against Tottenham and City. If not, we are in big-big trouble. And i am starting to lose faith in Ole. He does know what he has to work with, and he has to adapt to that. Using Pereira and Fred as a duo in the midfield, with freakin Mata "Helping" them out will never end well. They are being bullied all game. Every game.

That's just not true though. A good manager will get his team playing better than the sum of its parts. Perhaps no one could challenge for the title with this squad but no one being able to do better than OGS? Come on. The previous two managers that we sacked did far better, a good manager should do better, this level of performance is unacceptable.

I think the decent run against top teams is going to end with a huge loss to Spurs. Huge.

He has to go.

It's been obvious for a long long time he isn't good enough.

It's December and we're 9th and we've won 4 games all season.

Bloody helll, that’s damning. Didn’t realise we had so little.

Ole, I’m sorry, but you have to go.

Enough with this excuse already, we're not bad because Fred and Pereire are shit, but because we are so poorly coached, everyone, good or bad, looks clueless out there, Ferguson won with far worse squads.

tell me what would you have done differently with a midfield of Fred , Pereira and Garner to choose from today

Fred and Pereira are the worst 2 I’ve ever seen in our midfield but we have no other options .
Martial The most overrated player in the prem we have little up fromt and nothing in midfield

I see where you’re coming from, and I agree I think he’s got the shitty end of the stick taking on this squad.
Football is a results business though, the pressure will be on him and I can’t see how we beat Tottenham and City.
I have a lot of respect for Solskjær, but he’s not turning it around with this squad, and I doubt he’ll get the time to make more changes to it.

This is a good point, those *ugly goals* Solskjaer talked about Martial getting at the start of the season were there for the taking today, and he wasn't there on his toes being alert, he was on the edge of the box standing and shrugging.
And yet people whinge that we should not go for a player like Haaland
Feck I’d go for the Sheffield Utd striker

Have you noticed not one single person in our squad wants the ball? Everyone just looking to pass as soon as possible and cause they can't we just loose the ball. But seriously. Our FB can't bring the ball forward. Wan Bissaka is actually shocking going forward bordering on comical. Pererira and Fred just clowns all around. And the build up and the positioning of our attackers is non existent. Actually shocking squad and shocking coaching from Ole after 1 1/2 years at the club. Disgusting.

Depressing stuff with 2 more points dropped. We’re mid table mediocrity.

We need lots of things to turn this around not limited to a true goal poacher.
Martial, the most expensive teenager when we signed him contrives to hit it over the bar when it was easier to score, that sums up our season so far.

It all starts at the top. Ed Woodward is the root of our troubles, but since he can't be removed, I guess the manager has to go. We are at 18 points after 14 games - that's absolutely unacceptable. Managers at clubs performing better than us are being sacked left right and centre. Ole has to go because he thought it was okay to get into this season with the midfield and attack we have.

I think United easily have the worst midfield in the league at present. And I don't mean the names of the players, I mean the level of performances on the pitch.

The one positive I keep at the moment is that our deficiencies are so clear that we will improve rapidly.

They were already clear in the summer, but we managed to completely ignore them.

This idea that it's about buying more shinier toys all the time surely has to be debunked now. Many on here laughed at thought of being linked with McGinn and Grealish and yet both bosses the game today. How many times does it have to be said, good players with a great manager will always do better. FFs we used to batter teams with the likes of Gibson in midfield.

It’s time for Ole to go, but I don’t think he should be sacked without a replacement lined up.
Carrick or Phelan as caretaker is unlikely to be any better.

Poor performance, but even then we craft two goals and come from behind. We're not as useless as many of the comments in this thread suggest, but Ole has to carry the can for this team not doing enough to win week after week after fecking week. So tired of seeing us coughing up points, the winning goal always seems a bridge too far and some of the goals we give away are schoolboy level. We have bad injuries, every team gets the occasional kick in the teeth but the lack of winning mentality is on the senior players in that dressing room and yes it's on Ole and his coaching team.

I think the decent run against top teams is going to end with a huge loss to Spurs. Huge.

It's the only game i'm confident. Just a hunch. I would love it if United trashed Mourinho.

I'm one of those that has held out for Ole, because he's Ole. But that's it now. We need a change. The man will always be a legendary player for us.
Part ways please because that reputation is being tarnished by the harm that he is now doing. We have to go all out to get Pochettino in and back him right away this January.

But that was a poor result today, disappointing. No matter if Ole is sacked or kept, the club HAS to bring in midfielders in January and not at the end of the month, but pronto.

I doubt we will spend in January.
Too many fans have some misguided faith in our board.
The board have screwed the fans over, time and time again, yet the fans still believe that they will do the right thing.
