Stay top of the league from here on :smirk:

I may be wrong but we were a bit better than vs Spurs, this team needs to click and when it clicks it will be a joy to watch. Efficient well oiled machine.
I think it was a step better than against Spurs as well. If Rooney hadnt had such an awful game things might have been more impressive. Memphis has been disappointing to me so far, I expected more given the hype and his own self confidence but it hasnt clicked for him yet however I can see the potential so when he clicks into sync with the rest of the team I can see us looking really dangerous going forward. That would be the worst I think I have seen Rooney play, surely he can only get better from that?.

Your name is pretty apt too.

Get over yourself! I can appreciate good defending as much as the next person, but what's the point when you don't carry more than a passing threat in the opposite direction. Did you tremble with excitement over villa's performance limiting united to 2 shots on target?

United have a long history of attacking football that dates back long before I was born. I initially decided to support United because they played attacking football.

Villa were dead on their feet for the last 10-15 minutes of the first half and the last 20 minutes of the 2nd half. United managed 2 shots on target in the whole game. Villa almost went down last season and have lost their two best players, yet we couldn't do more than stifle them and manage one goal. It's fair to say that villa dominated us in both halves until they tired too.

If you find that exciting then good luck to you, but I will reserve the right to find it dull regardless of whether I appreciate the hard work and diligence of the teams defending.
I agree that we'll get better over time as players gel and Rooney remembers how to control a football, but if we'd played a team with a competent attack today, we'd have lost.

Look mate, I'm sad because of boring posts like yours. I can't read this negative dribble of people dreaming of old times and how great our attacking footy always seems to have been in hindsight. You made me laugh saying Villa dominated us though, so I won't take you too serious.

If you don't like it any more, then just decide to support a new team that plays the way you'd like.

----Schweinsteiger---Herrera----
------------Mata-------------
--Januzaj----Rooney-----Depay

is what I like to see against Newcastle at home.

As for the defence really can't complain. Looked solid as a unit and really great coherence as well.

Attack is what needs work and time to gel.

Memphis was a bit meh but as you see he looks promising and is trying to make things happen.
Rooney was abysmal and I hope he'll be better cause if he wont be we have a problem on our hands.

Back 4 were great. Schneiderlin was very good too. Herrera was perfect when he came on, gave us a lift in tempo and a better option further up. Bastian steadied the ship too.

Just the usual final third trouble again. Slow movement and creativity wasn't fast nor consistent.

Don't think Schneiderlin deserves dropping, his shielding of the defence is a big part of what's made us look so solid at the back.

How is Mata showing this?

One of the reasons we look solid is because of Schneiderlin.

Because Mata is the only one creating anything?

And Schneiderlin + Carrick is just another no creativity, uber safe 2011 man utd midfield. It doesn't solve anything. It should be either Schneiderlin OR Carrick. Not both.

That's mature.

I wasn't even that negative. I said i thought we were boring and made a joke about it. Compared to some of the comments on here, I think it was very tame. If you're concerned about negative "dribble" then you have a low threshold if you're singling my post out.

The reason I spoke about united having a history of attacking football is because it's true, and it was a response to your post criticising me for finding our lack of attack boring. If that offends your defensive minded sensitivities then I know which one of us is supporting the wrong team. If you don't think villa were dominating us in the opening periods of the halves (especially in the 10 minutes that proceeded the introduction of Ander and Bastian) then I won't take you too seriously either.

He'll play midweek and with Herrera instead of him I think we can control the game better. I doubt we'll need all that shielding against Newcastle at home. Schweinsteiger can do that.

Watching United is like torture. We all started watching this sport for entertainment and somewhere along the way we sold our souls for 3 points each week.

Of course, slipped my mind we're in action against Brugge. Still I think I'd rather play the same midfield again in the league, think we could use a little more drive (Herrera) and European experience (BFS) in the first leg.

Its either him or carrick that needs to go out. This current setup lacks a huge amount of creativity. Its simply 2 micheal carricks in midfield. An old and a young one.

As terrible as Rooney was he got better as the game wore on. He pretty much always takes a while to get going.
I found today weirdly encouraging,
he kept going on dribbles and trying stuff later in the match when other players would probably have started hiding a bit and there was some very nice touches (the ball over the top for memphis) and some good runs (where he forgot to take ball when it came to him).
He just looked rusty to me.
I'm not expecting a 35-40 goal kind of season or anything sensational but i think he'll hit 20-25 easily enough.

He got a bit better yeah but just a bit. And not enough. I hope its just his slow start and it wont take too long to get him started.

We lack creativity and Mata IMO would link great with Herrera as seen last year but now has more options for a free space (Depay is quick and direct and attacks the space), while on the other hand Schweinsteiger can open space and is much much better at keeping position and passing than Schneiderlin.

I'd prefer more steel in our CL match than against Newcastle at home.

We are so awful to watch, half of it you feel is self imposed by playing style rather than the players themselves,
I'm switching camps, joining Pogue in the slighty disgruntled camp. :(

Thought Mata was very good, good assist for the goal and put Memphis clean through for a chance that should have wrapped it up.

Just want to say, although I can see how styles of Football being branded boring..but I don't understand how if you are a United fan you can actually be genuinely bored during the match. The intensity and emotional involvement I feel is the opposite of boring.

Even for a neutral, we weren't slow or tumescent tonight, the lack of creation was there and we were really focused on possession again which isn't the most exciting.

But if you are a Manchester United fan it should be physically impossible to be bored during a United game.

Was like this last season till we finally came to life. Hopefully the plan is to sort the defense first and deal with the attacking later. We certainly cant put up with this all season, but 6 points out of 6 with 2 clean sheets is good.

Yes true, and not by luck either really, we look very well drilled as a defensive unit.

"Last year it took you until september to get two wins, but now you have two within a week."

"Yeah, but of course, we shall do it better than last year because that was very bad!

I love his honesty in front of the press / media - sometimes too honest though!

Your post was one of many and I can't address everyone. It could've been anybody else. You explained to me that you decided to support United because of the way they played. I can't understand how that works. I never decided to support United. I can't remember any time I haven't supported them, I was too young to know when it started.
I'd compare it with falling in love. You don't decide to fall in love, it happens. We weren't successful when I was a kid, so maybe I'm not as spoilt as some other supporters on here, maybe including you, maybe not.

I didn't mean to single you out and offend you, if I did so, then I'm sorry. I'll still ignore you though, because I don't like the negative vibe of your posts.

Once a team is difficult to score against its half the battle, we will always create chances and should score. Spurs are a decent side and we beat them, not sure what to make of Villa yet but getting 3 points there is good. I am giving LVG the benefit of the doubt for now, we might be just building something decent.

Some do though, and that's fine as well.

With the exception of Rooney, I thought all our players did well to great individually. Smalling was brilliant again. We looked much better than we did against Spurs and hopefully this upward trend continues.

Yeah he's very overly honest! But i love how he is with the media. It's a throwback to SAF. One thing I noticed is that he just doesn't like to overly compliment a player - especially a young player. He always thinks they can improve and he's right. I think, in spite of what some people say, he is a good man manager from what i've seen.

Darmian MotM - I thought the team were good. Defence was great, midfield was good and Schweinsteiger was excellent. Happy that Januzaj scored, great goal too.

We were twice the team when Schweinsteiger and Herrara came on. How they aren't starting baffles me.

Thought we did alright. As fans we need to get used to this new style, not that pretty bit was a solid performance.

Get some creativity and we have the making's of a good side.

Was Darmian really MOTM? I'd put the other 3 defenders ahead of him.

Not saying he did poorly at all, mind.
