Darmian couldn't be more Italian in his defending and we need a new striker.

6 points already. Great to get an Away win on the board early.

frustrations with silly stuff like fantasy footy, and slightly more worrying lack of forward cohesion, you can't knock 2 wins with clean sheets.

the attack can come soon.
defence looked good, central midfield strong, Mata great ball to Memphis, that would have given everyone a lift if that'd gone in.

Hopefully Tuesday gets us into an attacking flow.

For about fifteen minutes in each half, we looked like Manchester United again. Progress!

On the other hand, Rooney had one of his worse off-days in recent memory.

3 points in the bag but once again we looked toothless going forward.

It's no coincidence that we bossed the midfield when Ander Herrera and Bastian Schweinsteiger came on, if fit both have to play.

The less said about Wayne Rooney the better. Yet another horrendous performance from our "club captain".

3 fecking away points , Rooney and Darmain are opposite end of my rating

A bit boring but solid. Villa even when on top never really troubled us. Hoping for better but decent performance.

An away win against a bottom half side all while looking far more solid than last season. I'll take that as progress.

Can I start instead of Rooney on Tuesday?

Januzaj needs to be stronger physically if he wants to make that #10 his own, Mata needs to show more determination, lose the ball easily at times. Anytime I see Rooney, he makes me feel like the ball that goes to him is made of a different material.

Another 3 points, so am happy. Defense looks very solid. Do you guys still want another defender? Personally I think we are fine.

Was quite pleased with that, all the defence was very good. We really need a striker though.

I hated it at first, then I appreciated the defensive organisation. At no point did we look like conceding, LvG has improved our defence massively. If Smalling, Darmian and Shaw can stay fit I think we'll mount a serious challenge. The goals will come.

 Bet the Villa fans are fuming, they lost to such a poor performance from us! Januzaj looked so promising at #10, really hopes he can play an interchanging role with Mata there because that could be lethal in the future.

Rooney looked completely and utterly hopeless, we may be in a bit of shit if he doesn't find his form as a lone striker this season.

The biggest disparity between my rating and the consensus is Darmian. I suppose that stupid grab on Richards is skewing my perception

Solid away win. Romero didnt have to do anything. I think we look compact as an united. Still need to work on the attack but I think we're getting there, I've seen a bits of good attacking play.

Another good result and we played better than we did against Tottenham, so I am happy.

The major positive is obviously how strong we look defensively and the major negative is equally obvious, Rooney was a shambles.

Better than last week, just. We won with players not playing well and basically with 10 men as our striker offered next to nothing.

It reminded me of a Chelsea style win. Structurally pretty sound. Playing the occasion and winning with the odd moment of quality or that quality creating a piece of luck. Generally in control and could have scored on other occasions but didn't.

Points of note:
  • Memphis was clean through 1v1 about 5 times but we only found him once. This must get better.
  • Rooney played one of his worst ever matches.
  • Mata was poor also.
  • Januzaj scored but was no better than a 6/10.
  • Back 5 was safe yet again. Small errors but on the whole, comforting performances.

Darmian just unreal. Villa had 0 chances.

Depay looked a threat, obviously not fully fireing yet but I like him. Rooney was poor.

Rooney awful.

Everyone else very solid, Depay struggled but wasn't bad, should have scored but he will come good. Januzaj great first half, needs match fitness. Swap Mata for Januzaj and Januzaj for Pedro and you have a solid attack. Defence was excellent, all of them. Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger were great, controlled the game. Schneiderlin was very good and went a bit unnoticed but he really did fit into that Carrick role from last year. Carrick and Morgan together are a bit too slow. Ander was also very good, in a half where Villa wanted to counter, we really killed the game.

Overall 6.5/10, an away win and improved upon last week. Mata hitting some nice passes too.

Solid performance, just need Rooney to click into Gear and will be fine.lovely start to the weekend

lol we are hilariously dire in our performances. I won't get too critical of players as yet though, hopefully with time their understanding and sharpness will get better. For now, it is 6 points out of 6!

Is it weird that I didn't really notice Blind at all?! I think that might be just because he does his job really well and does the simple things well but i cant remember much of him in the game.

I went for Shaw as my motm

Surprised to see darmian leads the way. He had a good game, but Shaw was flawless I thought.

Very good performance when Schweinsteiger and Herrera came on I thought. Poor before that. Mata looked very good offensively and comically bad defensively. Rooney was wank. Our defense looks solid as hell. Schneiderlin was also very good in the second half imo.

6 points brilliant.
Defence looks good.
Midfield cover for defence looks better.
Januzaj had glimpses of his former self.
Schweinsteiger controlled the game far better than carrick (who looked poor again).

Rooney is a huge concern.
Memphis needs to be eased in, looks like he has all the bits but shouldn't be starting (yet).

Happy with that. Controlled the game. Never really looked threatened. Schneiderlin, blind both solid. Shaw and Darmian are gems on the sides. Schweinsteiger gives us a much needed calming presence to being pressed.
And rooney... thought I was finally getting some FF points

Defense was superb. Even Blind played really well. Romero solid on crosses which is good to see.

Midfield was good. A lot better when Ander and The General came on as subs. Memphis tried to do a lot on his own, he will get better. Rooney will get better with more games. He not match fit yet. Great goal by Januzaj and good passing by Mata.

Schneiderlin was great, so was Darmian.

Scrappy 1-0. I'll take it in the second game of the season away from home. 6 points out of 6, can't complain really. Good start.

The main positive to be taken away from that match was the tightness of the defensive unit, all of the back 4 looked very solid. Romero behind them although didn't have much to do looked very alert too. Rooney I think will come good in another game or two.

Defensively we were solid. Schweinsteiger did well in midfield, I thought Schneiderlin & the CBs were excellent.

Need to do a lot more offensively. Rooney in particular needs to do a lot better.

Well that was fecking terrible. Rooney had his worst game possivly ever, genuinely. Defensively we look great though, shaw and Darmian give us so much cover back there, Smalling bosses everything in the air and in physical challenges, Blind has played really well these last two games although don't expect him to last the season there.

Memphis weren't at his best today but got in great positions with such ease I expect him to do well.

I'd like to see Schweinsteiger start next to Schneiderlin next game, Carrick has been transparent and Bastian is having a better time controlling matches, he also more likely to get on the assists sheet.

Thought it was a decent improvement on last week and definitely on last year.

We look so much more solid. Whenever we played away (or indeed even at home) last year, you just felt the other team always had a chance. So far other teams are really struggling to create against us. Most of the chances are us giving the ball away in our own third.

We do need to improve our attacking play but we won't be losing many games this year. I'm hoping the club has a surprise up its sleeve.
