He started with "dear fans...", which was a bit odd. He didn't really say anything interesting or suprising, Just thanked the fans.
I wouldn't read too much into it. Sounded like someone whose first language wasn't English. Maybe they don't do the lap of honor/post-game speech in Eredivisie/La Liga/Bunsdesliga?

Oh look another chance to go straight into the CL group stages bottled. Now if Sunderland go and beat Arsenal, then it will hurt 100x more than right now.

Seriously do we ever play or score goals with through balls? Because I'm pretty sure 90% of our goals come from crosses into the box, it's incredibly frustrating, but the truth is, we are a truly average and limited team.

Big big changes in the summer I hope.

Mostly a great performance by us. Bossed almost all of the match. Gooners couldn't even get a shot on target in the first half. Probably should've been out of sight. Lucky late goal by Arsenal but only after DDG and Rojo were replaced. This team has improved. I'm still not sure we are good enough to compete for the title next year, although that will depend a lot on who comes and goes this summer, but I think it is fair to say we are looking up and not down.

It's been such a strange season defensively for us, in just the second half of the season I can remember these three deflected goals plus one against Liverpool and Shelvey winner for Swansea was also deflected. Add to this the bizarre nature of the collapse at Leicester, Valencia back pass for Welbeck and that third goal at Everton which could have been avoided and it seems like surely this can't happen again next season kind of stuff

Good first half, second half got progressively worse. Clearly the players got too comfortable. Can't be that disappointed since there wasn't enough too much at stake, 3rd place seemed unlikely anyway. Just would have been nice to get a win in the final home game. Young was our best player. Falcao is clearly gone, and won't really be missed.

On a side note, that Van Gaal end of season address was a bit odd.

I thought it was great!

I think from his post match conference he know we do not kill the game off. So I would say he knows as we all know that we need an experienced composed CB, someone to cover for Carrick and for gods sake a striker.

As for killing games off, you need:

A proper striker.
Luck not going against you on a deflected cross.

I won't change my mind that we were basically playing with 10 men, dominated the game and conceded to pure and utter luck but now that I've calmed down since there is a lot of positives.

Goalie - 10/10 as always

Defend was solid, AV the weak link like always but he had an ok game in his stands, Rojo was quite good, Jonesy was great and Smalling was bossing it.

Midfield was absolutely class

Forwards - Fellaini offered very little getting forward but I guess he was playing off the striker, and both Falcao and RVP offered absolutely nothing for us.

We're going in the right direction, we're class against teams who don't sit back but still struggle against any opposition who do, we're a few signings away from everything clicking IMO. Roll on next season.

Nothing odd about that at all, what would you have rather him do? He would've looked a bit daft doing what he did during Bayern's title celebrations because it wouldn't have been true.

Nice game. Dislike instant blame on Blackett and Valdes.
Yeah agreed. Not at fault at all. Though in my personal opinion, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I can't see Blackett making it at United, medium or long term. I'm much more of a McNair fan. I'm hoping he makes it. Blackett doesn't instill the same confidence, and he's already 22, right?

Anyway, we did enough to win today. Lucky goal from arsenal.

Jones was an accident waiting to happen and Valencia played very well! Rojo solid but gave the ball away to often. Take your blinkers off for feck sake.

So who are the teams we may possibly face to qualify for CL??

I read somewhere that Monaco and Lazio are possible. Other than that I am not sure. Probably some riff raff from Bulgaria.

Why are people blaming Blackett? It was the slightest of touches on his boot, probably landing under a second from the time it was kicked. It happens, it wasn't as though he was out of position not challenging. Valdes was in the position for a clean kick...can't blame him either...just one of those things.
Because people here don't know football and need somebody to blame when something goes wrong. Happens all the time. Was Evans first, then Carrick for a spell. Cleverley had his time as well.

So who are the teams we may possibly face to qualify for CL??
I don't think there's a chance of facing a Spanish/Italian/German/Portuguese team since United have the highest coefficient and should get seeded against an easier team.

We could potentially face the 3rd French team, which is currently Monaco but it could be Marseille or Saint-Etienne. We'll just have to see how it goes. If we can't beat these kind of teams over 2 legs we don't deserve to be in the CL anyway.

We were the better team for the best part of an hour or more. Disappointed we only got a draw because I don't think our play warranted that.

I loved the passion in the speech. But maybe the shouting was just because of the Arsenal fans. Cnuts.

No no it wasnt. English isnt his first language yet the sentiment was there plain to see. Its only strange and odd to those who like to nitpick and find fault with the man.
White text.

I agree, cant believe some cant find fault even with that.
Just found a post in another thread where one poster wrote he hates LVG.

Final home game of the season and we got a draw which is a little disappointing. The first half we were definitely the better side and deserved to go into the break in the lead but we faded after an hour and Arsenal came on strong. They got a bit of luck with their goal but probably deserved it with the pressure they were applying at this time. Ultimately we were punished for not killing the game when provided with the chance.

A lot of good performances today. Mata and Herrera were both very strong. Herrera especially as he put in a very complete performance for an hour by putting in some excellent passing and defensive play and scored a great goal. Young was the best though as he had their full back on toast for the whole game. Falcao worked hard but fell over a lot and just looked physically deficient out there. Blackett was poor but it wasn't for a lack of trying, it was a tough period in the game for us and he got a little unlucky for the goal.

Hope its not De Gea's last game for us, but fear it is. Rumour on bbc 5 live that he acknowledged he was staying to Falcao at the end of the game but probably is just wishful thinking. For the last game of the season, I would like us to rotate a little bit to give a couple of fringe players a go.

disappointing.....

Arsenal were there for the tasking but we lacked that bit of ruthlessness and class in front of goal to score another goal or two

subs again had no impact and RVP looks like he should follow Falcao out the door

what we'd give for a Suarez or Aguero up front

What I will say, is that RVP is finished here...as is Falcao, so that is two strikers gone. Rooney, big fan of his, but honestly was, well, missing a bit today. There is no doubt we need a new striker, don't you think?
If those three can't get any goals, maybe the strikers aren't the problem?

We played very well. Every starter solid 7/10. Frustrating goal to give away but we caused them problems and generally limited them. Our pattern of play is getting more consistent at home. It's not flying football, at speed but it's the sign of a more sustainable measured game.

The wrong substitutions caused us to lose our lead, IMO.

Once Arsenal started pushing their full backs forward we needed Wilson on, not RVP. We were never going to be a threat on the break to make them think twice with that substitution. Roco, although supposedly not match fit, seemed far from it but he was brought off anyway. The lad was playing an absolute blinder right up until the time he was taken off- I couldn't believe he got subbed. If he was genuinely spent, Blind should have gone to LB allowing a midfield three of Mata, Fellaini and a deeper Herera with Adnan or ADM coming on to play Right Forward.

Just saw LVG's speech. Love how he says "BYE!" at the end.

Thoughts on the game:

We played conservatively and patiently like we have away to every big side this season. Out of the top 4, we've lost away to Chelsea, won at the Etihad and drew at Old Trafford, conceding a grand total of 3 goals

We didn't create much, but we haven't created much away to the top sides all season. It has been defence first and then trying to nick a goal.

Cazorla and Giroud hampered us massively. A few times we could have started a counter but Giroud was too slow to get on the end of things or chose the wrong option. He could have played in Walcott at the end but turned back inside, not to mention those chances that he missed. Cazorla did not help out Coquelin at all in midfield today and we only really took hold once Wilshere came on and Ramsey slotted in alongside him. I would love for Wenger to buy Schneiderlin and play him alongside Wilshere and Ramsey in a midfield three with Cazorla sold. He's 30/31 now so may soon start declining and I would rather back on Jack to come good.

Beyond that I thought we were okay, we were never going to go gung-ho all out attack especially after all the heavy defeats over the years. We didn't need the win and got what we came for so its an okay result.

On the United side of things.

Herrera looks a good player. When did Ashley Young start playing so well? The last two goals that we conceded have been from crosses on our right so perhaps its time to give Bellerin a rest.

Thank god Rooney wasn't playing today as Falcao + Van Persie offered nothing and I'm sure Rooney would have scored at least one of the chances that fell to them.

200 million and you look more like Everton than when Moyes was in charge.

I'm happy with a point at this stage of the season considering how we'd normally get hammered in this fixture.
