He was immense today. The impetus behind our pass-and-move play which at times, was mesmerizing. Agree with the sentiments that it shouldn't be a case of either/or Herrera and Fellaini. We can easily fit them both into the starting XI.

The whole midfield was dominant, I love it when we have this fluid movement about us. Its a toss up between Carrick and Herrera for me, carrick probably edges it.
He just wasn't fit enough or pain free. Now he is eased back into the team, like LVG does with all his players that have been out for a while
Hard to disagree with that. Looked like the United we all know and love, and Di Maria wasn't even playing. Smalling showed excellent composure on a few occasions, he's responded really well after his moronic actions in the derby. Fellaini gets my vote for MOTM, constantly involved, his only blip being getting skinned by Brady. Love how Herrera uses the ball, he's the player we thought Cleverley could be.
Granted Hull were pretty clueless with the ball and the defence wasn't tested.

Not just midfield. With Mata, Herrera, Fellaini, Di Maria, Rooney, Carrick and Blind we can argue we have the best midfield in the league. What a step forward from last season.
Almost for the entire match every player was playing 2 touch football, zipping the ball about. Great to see.
I wasn't impressed. We got the win but the entertainment wasn't there. The passing wasn't sharp either. RVP was poor but im glad he scored, it will do him good. Falcao didn't see enough of the ball besides his fluffed opportunity. Hull City were completely shit. Game should've been 6-0
Almost brought a tear to my eye the last few minutes of the first half. United didn't look they even wanted to have a break, they were thoroughly enjoying football and it was beautiful to watch. It was a joy to watch the results of a long 3 months of hard work today and I can gladly say we're back.

Yep, and not even that, but his positioning is just incredible too, always seemed to be in the right place without having to sprint to get there. I had only ever seen Carrick live once and it was years and years ago and people always say you have to see him at OT to truly see what he offers, I now know what they mean.

My thoughts exactly. Hull were absolutely shocking today, their whole performance was a 90 minute long chain of mistakes. When Bruce made that substitution in the first half, I thought they might wake up, but thankfully didn't.
That said, we did what a great team would do and capitalized ruthlessly on that. Very professional and assured performance that (again) showed signs of a solid and goal oriented passing play and developing understanding between the players. We are moving forward.
Don't know if I quite buy that, though. RvP has clearly not been up to speed. Carrick wasn't fully match-fit when he was put into the side recently. I feel like there must be more behind Herrera being dropped, seeing as when he's played, he's been among the team's most influential players.
Maybe that's just me conspiracy-mongering. Anyways, I hope after today that Herrera is firmly cemented back into the starting XI for the foreseeable future...

Yup, I've missed those lobbed through passes to our frontmen, ones that he didn't really show last season but the season before the disaster. I guess RVP missed them too.
The movement of the players to make themselves available for the ball is much improved from last season. Promising stuff.
I don't think they are that poor. They were good against Spurs and if the wouldn't get a red card they would win that game or at least draw. They will end the season around 10-15 place. I think that our team made them look so poor.
Great to see Mata looking capable of pressing and winning possession as well as having really lively off the ball movement. Also, christ, what the hell has Van Gaal been feeding Fellaini? Unrecognisable.
This shite gets cycled after every game we win. It's boring, and a disservice to ourselves as well as the international footballers on show for Hull.
Just got back from the game.. Great performance. Really felt like that was Van Gaal's influence finally shining through today. The defence was calm on the ball and always found the free man (Carrick's presence there was so important). They brought the ball out slowly, together, with confidence.

Robin scored a fantastic goal and made a good layoff for Rooney's but he had a poor first half. Much better second half from him though. I was there today NT1. Really great to see us perform well as a whole team, everyone did well, couple of very good goals too. You could see the confidence flood through the team after Rooney scored the second goal
Exactly. We didn't give them the ball. Obviously they'd be piss poor chasing it all game. Perhaps we should have let them have a few chances for this to be acknowledged a good win.
Exactly, even if they were shite poor, this is the kind of performance we want to see against every single shite side we'll play. It's not like Palace, Sunderland, Swans or Burnley were world beaters yet we haven't looked 1/100 as comfortable as we have today.
The reason Smalling looked superb today is that he barely had to defend all game. This is not a criticism but an illustration of why we need to stop with the tired clichés of how we need leader-style old fashioned defenders. There is a reason why that Barcelona or Bayern team from few years back never had those kind of players. When you control the game as we did today and monopolize possession through incisive passing and quick pressing, your defenders' job is to start out attacks and press the opposition. A game where you see your defenders having to do a lot of work is a sign that you didn't really play well.
Some don't seem to be able to separate the performance of the opposition from our own performance. The fact is that even if Hull weren't much of a threat, we still looked comfortable and did all the right things that we should have done. We did the job that was expected and got the points. Sometimes when you sense that the opposition is terrible, you know that you don't have to put in as much of an effort and so you take it easier. It just means that you don't exert as much of yourself as you usually do as it is unnecessary otherwise but you still do enough to get a result.
They tried to press us and harass us in the opening of each half but it quickly became apparent that they were chasing shadows, Uniteds possession just battered them into submission fairly quickly.
Also our midfield held as high a line as you will ever see, our back 4 was protected by an exceptional Carrick and Mata was one of few to drop and link the play. Hull had no idea how to deal with us because our players seemed to have no set formation yet it was incredibly cohesive and fluid, Hull stood no chance against what we served up today.

+RVP: Great game from him with a wonderful strike as a goal. Perhaps the harsh words from LvG lit a fire under him, I thought he was one of our best players today.
+Rooney: When he's on form, he's on form. So clinical from outside the box and never stopped running all day. His passing was exquisite and didn't show any hotheadedness, especially at the end when he was pushed onto the tarmac. Great performance.
+Herrera: What a player! Also never stopped running and my favorite part about him was his quick decision making. He spent like less than 5 seconds at the ball at a time, always making great decisions. His partnership with Mata today was fantastic, but Ander was our most forward thinking player. His positioning is exceptional and he intercepted countless balls just by strategically getting in passing lanes, as evidenced by his assist for RVPs goal.

-Mata: It's not so much he doesn't have pace, but I felt his decision making was very slow today. He needed a long time on the ball in order to actually create something which is what we just won't have against the bigger teams. He also gets bodied off too much. I personally don't think he brings enough to the team/enough unique qualities to the team to warrant a starting spot. We would have done just as well without him today imo.

I would say QPR had more chances in that game to score than Hull today and we looked real dodgy at the back despite winning 4-0 in that match. Today Hull didn't have any full chance to score and our possession was a lot faster than the QPR match.
Mata was one of the best players today - not sure what you saw.
Falcao came on once the rest of the team deided to stop playing. His link up play was very good.
I was probably a little harsh on Falcao, but I stand by my opinion on Mata. I just didn't see him create anything of note today and thought he was caught in possession more than once. If Di Maria had not been injured and seeing how Herrera played today, I would start Herrera over Mata
