Pogba Alternatives

If you are going to quote me and say 'seriously'? You can at least make an effort to prove me wrong. Veratti ahead of him, yeah, sure thing. Veratti is hiding away in Ligue 1. Probably the weakest big league in Europe. Dominating games is always subjective. If that's all you can say to prove me wrong, theres no point in debating with you.

Go and watch PSG champions league matches...it's not my fault that you are not aware of the better player's. And where did you proved your point about pogba ? I barely noticed him playing until the assit .

I'm not a pogba fan boy. Pogba have the talent to match verrati but now those players are a couple of levels above pogba.

I'm not trying to be negative and I really hope we pull the Pogba deal off, but after Thiago and Vidal to just name a couple of recent sagas, we know all too well how things often end. However that doesn't mean Mourinho just gives up on the fact he identified needing that CM addition, and not another water carrier IMO as we wouldn't be going for Pogba and prior the interest in Pjanic if that was the case, he talked adding players with vision.

I'll just throw a couple in to start us off.

Saul - I know he just signed a new contract but Mendes is his agent and owns 40% of his rights. The £56M buyout is excessive but wouldn't be a problem as it's nearly half of the Pogba fee and Atleti tend to make one big sale each summer.

Ruben Neves - Younger and not as attacking as Pogba, but has the quality in his passing range to be a great addition and give our midfield some much needed creativity.

Saul and Neves would be a great combination.

There are quality midfielders like Verrati and Kroos but they are happy in their clubs. Also, Real Madrid and PSG don't need to sell their midfielders.

Saul would be in our first team while Neves rotates with Carrick/Schweinsteiger.

I have noticed that most of the fans have a 4231 formation to start next season (with Pogba in a midfield of 2). IMO our players would be better in a 433 formation.

None of the players mentioned are as good as Pogba minus Verrati who isn't available and would cost more. What's the point

If we're determined to spend a lot of money, I'd be far happier if we offered Real Madrid E70m for Isco. At least every time I've seen him he's been good.

To be honest I was all for Pogba just out of the pure hype, without having watched him much apart from his youtube highlights. After watching all France's games at the Euros the £100m is wayyy too much. He's worth £50m at best, just due to potential. Not better than De Bruyne for me.

I don't think people are quiet seeing it. There are no alternatives who would give us what he can. Pogba can do it all. He has no main weakness that you can go 'hey, he's pretty crap at that'. People need to realise we need him so that we can then mould our MF around him. That's why he will cost a world record. You're not going to find anyone with his physical attributes and his all round game. Name one and i will delete my account.
Delle Alli

If you want to just value players on their performances at the Euro then what value would the likes of Harry Kane have?

Nainggolan & Saul, Nainggolan rejected Chelsea because he's waiting for Mourinho to come calling

I can only hope...

Mourinho should give TFM a chance, I don't see it happening though but he showed in games last season him intercepting balls and bursting forward. He's got it in his locker. Just a thought.

Saul isn't really a Pogba alternative. Think Saul is more like Roy Keane, while Pogba has traits of Vieira and Seedorf.

Good point, however an attacker can be the best in the world and not score in an international competition (Ronaldo at WC 2014 for example). I was expecting to see Pogba run the midfield and more for the hype and price.

Mateo Kovacic.

I mentioned him in the Pogba thread. A brilliant talent has everything you want in a cm player: technique, tenacity, mobility, vision, he can carry the ball and beat players. He would be available for around 30 million euros I would want to sign him anyway if i'm being honest.

If we use a 1-2 midfield to compensate for Carrick and Bastians age and lack of mobility, we could try and use Mkhitaryan in the attacking role with a box-to-box next to him.

I would try and see if Roma could be tempted with a £40m bid for Nainggolan, i know they rejected Chelsea's £33m bid so it probably won't happen.

Kante is still a possibility, but even though he is a beast defensively, i have concerns about his rather limited passing and physicality.

The likes of Koke and Saul would be fantastic to sign, but both seem like very difficult transfers.

Matuidi could work, but then we have to hope Herrera will improve this season and i'm not sure we can risk that.

Nainggolan,Kante,Barkley,Witsel are some nice alternatives. We'll get a cm in a couple weeks. I think Jose said he won't wait till the 31 of August so he wants this wrapped up before the season starts in a month's time. It's a big big no to Andre Gomes for me and Matuidi is too old, besides we need someone better on the ball than he is.

Wouldn't mind bringing in Nainggolan, Kante & say Mahrez and foregoing Pogba.

I'm actually with you although I'd settle for just Kante and Mahrez, all three would surely cost north of 100m.

I'm surprised no one has tried to buy the two Leicester players, or at least nothing has been reported yet.

Not sure if this is true - but don't Kante/Mahrez have a cheaper buyout clause?

Kante has a 20m pound buyout I read but that is only if the club trying to buy him are in the CL. So it wouldn't apply to us. Also Mahrez doesn't have a clause as far as I'm aware and I'm sure Leicester already said it would take an offer of at least 35m pounds if anyone wants him. Obviously this was just paper talk etc.

As for Nainggolan Roma apparently have a 40m euro buyout.

Yeah, you can't base your transfer policy around whose best, it needs to be who's the best who's conceivably available.

I'd say they are better right now, but as you stated they wouldn't be available so can't be considered alternatives.

It's always tricky with players of that high standard whether they are available or not. For the right money they "might" become available but we wouldn't really know. Probably if we offer 100m for Kroos probably Real would entertain the idea (using the money to buy Pogba or another galactico of their own), but then again depends on whether the player would want the move as well.

This thread just emphasizes how important it is to sign Pogba.

Also, people were already losing their minds over the fee. Saul would cost upward of 60 million, has had one season at a top club and played most of it on the right wing. Last season he was playing CB at Vallecano, yet there is an acceptance that he is a better CM than Pogba who has been starting for Juve for 4 years, displacing Marchisio at one point, and delivering consistently. The caf just goes into complete meltdown in the off season.

Which when you consider the amount wanted for Pogba it doesn't seem that outrageous.
