Playstation Network is a Joke!

Might be back up tomorrow in Europe is latest I have heard from Sony.

It's nice weather outside isn't it. Yes it ain't good but if they have been hacked what can be done? Not like your paying is it.

That's besides the point. Especially when I spend £425 on the console and around £40 on each game.

And yes it's amazing outside. But there's a good day of football on so I'm just waiting for that.

yes its pants at the moment but its free so feck it i dont need my fix that bad that i cant wait for it to come back online again

You can still play your games, just not online which does suck but again its forces outside their control.

Yup, it's down.

I don't care because online gaming sucks in my country.

So, the laugh's on the rest of you tards!

Or something like that.

A lot of people did buy the console with free online play being a big factor in their decision. I can understand why they'd be pissed off with it not working, even if it is free.

Free online play > 76p a week online play??????

Nope agreed. PS3 is a joke online for the most part, 50% of the games are 10x more laggy on it than they are on Xbox, and the whole layout is bad.

Still it has exclusive rights to the show and Uncharted so I gots to stick with it. If you want free, get steam on PC.

I don't get any lag whatsoever let alone 50%. Seems like a pro XBox comment. I had 2 XBoxs and they both red ring'd after less than 2 months, but I wouldn't say that all XBoxs red ring even though my PS3 has never let me down.

Well I'm Pro Sony more than anything since everything I own outside of the Xbox is Sony. But I'm not gonna lie, the systems mostly terrible for online gaming.

It's mostly fine for me except when I play people from Spain,Italy etc with a crap connection.

I get a small lag but its enough to make unplayable.

Fecking technology.

What sort of argument is "it's free though"??? People still fork out shed loads on the console itself and a fortune on games.

People get defensive over which console they have but this is why I prefer XBox. I ONLY use online play so the PSN being so flakey really puts me off, despite it being a superior machine.

Its not free though!

They take a cut from every game sold.
It's win win for the companies that make games and Sony.

What's the huge deal? They got hacked, shit happens. They probably had decent security set up, but someone tried hard enough and managed to find a gap. I've just gone back to a few SP games, and more PC gaming as well.

C'mon people, find something to do, it'll be back eventually.

Didn't even know it was down, haven't been playing online/playing much.

If it has been hacked surely Sony would tell the customers seeing as the hackers would potentially have access to the users confidential information. Play.com had a security breach & informed the customers, Sony should do the same.

PSN itself is not too bad, I think it depends on the game. FIFA I get a few disconnections, Black Ops was unplayable but games like LBP2 & Killzone 3 are lag-free.

They have said it was an external attack.

No, it wasn't a very good communication, just says external attack.

That's my problem with this situation, they've given a vague statement which doesn't help the user at all. I just think that if it's taken 4 days (and counting) to resolve the 'attack', it's worse than they're letting on.

Well you get what you pay for.

Exactly. If you're paying for it, ala Live, and it goes down you have every right to complain if it's down.

Otherwise, put up with it and wait for it to get fixed.

Well the free aspect is factored in to game and unit cost isn't it?

According to the statement on their official blog the delay it's because they're revamping the security system.

They apparently noticed a hole in the security being exploited and simply took the whole thing down to fix it. PSN as an infrastucture isn't actually run by SCE by the way, it's always been run by SOE, which if I recall correctly was a spawn from Sony Pictures. It has been merged into Network and Devices now though, so is in the same group as SCE now.

No! It's paid for by downloadable games, downloadable content, etc. Its base infrastructure is not SCE, the wider goal is that it will be used by all network connected Sony devices. Playstation was basically the first major system to use it. All SOE stuff, including their MMOs for the PC also run over the same base infrastructure.

It's mostly fine for me except when I play people an ADSL connection.

I fixed that for you. :smirk:

There is no reason whatsoever why PSN would be more laggy than XBox Live, as for most games, it's the consoles themselves that host and run the games, very little information is being transmitted to the central servers. It's going over the Internet!

If people do notice this going on in comparison to the two, the only thing I can think of that may cause it is that it's likely that there are far more PS3s linked through wireless routers than XB360s, that never had that feature in-built. So, I'd expect far more XB360s to be wire connected than PS3s. 54Mbit connection should be well enough on a well implemented home network. I doubt that the majority of people have well implemented wireless home networks however.

Do a wireless search for example, I can currently see around 30 networks around me, and 8 are not even encrypted. Why ever broadcast your SSID in the first place? Nobody can see my router. Even still, the encryption that goes on with wireless does need processing time on both the PS3 and the router, so yes, that can cause lag, even without any external interference.
