Gaming PlayStation 5

I've gone and got addicted to Final Fantasy XIV. Haven't properly got into an mmo since Uni

Would never have believed a full hotkey MMO could play so well on a controller but they really made it work

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is an absolute all timer already. For anyone debating it because you perhaps struggled a tad with the first game, I’d say you have to go for this one. It’s a different game with the improved fluidity etc. The first game had some excellent ideas but just didn’t have the budget or man power to execute them. In the second it comes through as possibly the most immersive experience I’ve had since Red Dead 2. It’s also easily one of the funniest games I’ve ever played. Some of the missions genuinely had me laughing by myself. It’s nice to play an experience that is actually targeting a more mature audience and theme.

So i bought a PS5 this weekend. What is the five games i absolutely need?
I have a 7, soon 8 year old daughter half the time, so something for her i think. Myself is no fan of games like CS, but i think i like open world games. Huge fan of strategy like Heroes of might and magic, but dont think its to much of that on PS5?

So open for almost everything.

Just get the playstation plus sub and there will be plenty of games for you both.

Since you mentioned the little one, definitely check out the free, pre-installed Astro's Playroom. You might need to help out but it's free anyway, so perfect to get started. If you like that and it works for her, consider getting Astro Bot, the full game, which is absolutely brilliant.

anyone recommend any fun, pick up and play coop games which could function in a party-like setting? thinking mario kart-esque, or smash bros. Most I get when I search is complex stuff like BG3 or something which you cant really pick up for 30 mins and have fun

Boomerang-Fu, The Jackbox games, Overcooked.

Agreed on Astro and I'd also suggest Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart which is pretty much a live action Pixar movie. Downloaded Disney's Speedstorm for free last weekend which my grandson loved and is graphically great although would be a serious grind to pick up all the characters or cost you a small fortune if you don't stick on the free to play route.

Open world wise it depends what world you want but you can't really go wrong with the God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2 and whilst it's a bit marmite on here I do enjoy Days Gone all of which you can lose yourself in for weeks whilst the Spiderman games are all fantastic if a little bit more linear and set in a smaller area although the best bit is actually just swinging around a fantastically detailed New York.

I was laughing out loud last night at a dialogue option where Henry was asked "what does evil (or the devil, or something) look like to you" and one of the response options was "like your mum".

I took advantage of Sony‘s new rental service to rent out a PS portal. It was here just 12 hours later!

First impressions are mixed. The build quality is very nice but the software seems like trash. Lots of trouble trying to connect to PS5. Glad I’m just keeping for a month.

I got the portal last October. I think it’s superb. What connection issues did you have? It was fairly user friendly I thought

Mine regularly fails to connect and I have to re-start it to try and find a connection. Without fail mine will also freeze after about twenty minutes of playing meaning I have to re-start the Portal. When it works it’s good but it definitely has some major flaws from my experience.

Never had that issue. At worst the connection slows a bit when I’m a bit further away from the router. Great bit of kit.

I keep getting a ' lost connection ' message, even though I'm still connected to the internet and remote play is still working. Not a huge issue but a weird bug. It only happens during remote play and not when I'm streaming.
