Gaming PlayStation 5

Just started Red Dead 2 for the first time. Probably a terrible time when i'm bored of open world games but i have so many built up in my backlog at this point that its reaching now or never territory.
Never a terrible time to start RDR2 mate. Yes, both open world but one is pretty looking, plays well but is completely vaccuous and the other is RDR2. The world in RDR2 is still almost just as empty but feels a lot richer and spontaneous. It really is a beautiful place to explore which is the best element of a good open world.

I started it again not long ago and have just been doing my own thing at my own pace rather than getting tangled up in the story straight away and I've found it a really rewarding experience. Exploring, hunting, camping, fishing and cooking while almost avoiding NPC's and towns unless I want to buy stuff or get new clothes / haircuts. It's a cool thing.

Been playing Arcadegeddon the last few nights.

The game gives a terrible first impression but if you can push through the needless talking and "humour" you'll find a really good coop shooter.

There are aspects that a Returnal-esque with the general gameplay loop; enter a room, clear the enemies, collect currency to upgrade. It also gives you the option to have pallet cleanser PvP sections with your teammates which are a welcome change of pace.

It seems most people are sleeping on this, and it's only free for a couple more days so make sure you add it to your library.

Feel like it'd be up your alley @afrocentricity

My controller isn't charging out of the front port.

Seems to be a common issue from what I can find on the web, unsure if it's controller or port however. Gonna try a wall socket but really cannot afford to need a new one at the minute.

I went through Ghost of Tsushima.
Kind of bored of open worlds and its open world is one of the most bland i've seen. Some beautiful screenshots along the way even if it is cheating a bit with heavily exaggerated color and wind and whatnot. I wouldn't complain, it is jaw dropping beautiful at times. Story is junk. Lame, unskippable, weakly acted, boring junk. Gameplay is excellent and where the game comes into its own. Really thought it would suffer in comparison to Sekiro but it holds up quite well and with a system that seems much easier to copy and paste for other developers. Just let down by weak foundations elsewhere. Its a great game with nothing particularly interesting to do in it.

Half way through Spiderman and i'll probably go back to that too - think that'll be easier to enjoy though because traversal is fun.

Im just heading through GOT the first time, and its a weird game. Technically its superb, the combat is fun, the various game mechanics are mostly fun and the scenery is beautiful. But there's something about it that just isnt gripping me. I pick it up play it for half an hour, enjoy it, but then end up playing something else for a bit afterwards and forgetting it for a few days. It feels a bit tepid.

RDR2 is pretty good though. While I didn't enjoy it quite as much as others because the cowboy setting isnt interesting to me, it oozes quality and it feels far more natural in its world compared to most other open world games. You never feel like you're just hunting dots on the map, and the missions are much more involved and complex than most games. I only played it on PS4 so I may give it another shot on PS5 at some point.

Unfortunately there's no PS5 update for it, so you're still stuck with 30 fps and the same checkerboarded resolution as on PS4 Pro. It's a shame really, how hard can it be to just release a basic 60 fps and native 4k patch?

Oh, crap. Im surprised given that nearly every other PS4 game seems to at least do 60FPS. Id just assumed Bloodborne was the only exception. Maybe they're holding off for a rerelease cash in at some point down the line.

At least From Software have an excuse with Bloodborne, since that was designed exclusively for the PS4 and has its animations tied to the framerate, so a viable 60 fps patch would require more effort. No the case with RDR 2 obviously since it can run higher framerates on PC.

Cheers for the heads up. I'll have a look over the weekend.

While it's open-world, it avoids the typical Ubisoft trappings that I associate with open-world fatigue. Clearing camps all around the maps, doing the same missions over and over again, finding a bunch of collectables, etc. Ghost of Tsushima had loads of that but RDR 2 isn't that kind of game.

It's a game that demands patience from the player though, if you're already a bit burned out on open-world games that might be an issue. Rushing through it will destroy the experience. It's at its best when it's played at a slow pace, just taking in the game world, enjoying the mundane activities that are part of the daily life out in the West, exploring its beautifully realised environments, hunting for some meat to cook over your camp fire in the evening, that sort of stuff. It can be a very zen-like experience.
Yeah, i've been enjoying it a lot more than i expected. I dont think its possible to avoid the slow pace really, its quite forced, which is fine. I'll get dragged off and distracted doing mundane crap easily enough, my attempts to just stick to the main story wont last long, they never do

Help needed fellas. What are the best PS5 games on PlayStation Plus? Is Miles Morales available on Plus for the Five?

Yeah, Miles Morales is on Plus Extra.

Just got the speedrun trophy left for the plat for Stray. Think I'll wait a couple of weeks for the speedrunners to optimise times before I do it though. Was a nice little game.

No need it's piss easy.

I've downloaded it and Stray too. Seems to better games on the Ps5 compared to the Xbox. But I could be wrong.

Yeh you can pause as much as you like, and also quit out and do it in two or more sittings.

Only potentially tricky part is the last bit of the prison. But even with a few deaths I still finished with 30 minutes to spare.
Excellent. Looking at my normal playthrough, the time was 4h 55m. I'd say close to 2h of that was trying to get the damn sleeping trophy and another fair whack of time was for the zurk pursuit and redoing the sneaking ones. 1h 40ish should be doable for me just not having to worry about the side content.

Miles Morales, Demon Souls, Returnal. I played them in that order and was loved them all.

How about the other FF game?
No idea but im going to say no. Final Fantasy has been moving away from it for a while. Remake was very good to be fair. Think Persona 5 is a more traditional rpg and has got very good reviews. Its free on ps plus, theres probably dozens of good turn based rpgs spread around there.

Extra and Premium games get announced in two weeks but we know that three of the Extra games will be Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2.
All okay so this isn't the full extra / premium line up

Been playing The Messenger as it's part of the Extra tier on PS Plus. I'm not typically a 2D platformer guy. I never was into things like Megaman and Ninja Gaiden. They didn't really do it for me, plus I suck at 2D platformers. But this one is really fun so far. The gameplay is really solid, it has great music, the moveset (so far) is fairly simple - which is a good thing - and I like the level design. An enjoyable experience so far.
