A company trying to create a monopoly will never sit right with me. There’s never anything good that can come of this.

#Kneelsdownandprays.gifAnyone else think that could actually backfire on Microsoft? I mean 70 billion is a lot of fooking change
For a lot of people, that's true. However, there's clearly a very large audience that doesn't care as much about the quality of the games and just wants to play the latest CoD with their mates. Those people will have to move to the Xbox eco system when the deal is finalised, so that's an instant impact on the player base. They will have to go a long way to take that much of a market share. As it stands Playstation still has the best exclusive games and the bigger player base. These moves will make an impact but the game quality will be the real deal breaker. Sony will absolutely smash it this year with Horizon and GOW.
Nope.Anyone else think that could actually backfire on Microsoft? I mean 70 billion is a lot of fooking change
That sounds like heaven! Leave PlayStation with the decent games. For a lot of people, that's true. It is around their yearly profit. They are a 2.5T company, an absolute behemoth.Anyone else think that could actually backfire on Microsoft? I mean 70 billion is a lot of fooking change

Especially for a company that producers shooters....Anyone else think that could actually backfire on Microsoft? I mean 70 billion is a lot of fooking change
At least they can't buy the indie marketIt is around their yearly profit. They are a 2.5T company, an absolute behemoth.
70 billion is a massive sum of money, but they can easily afford it. The feckers are buying the industry and are becoming like Disney in movies. Unless Google or Apple enter the game.
There's no guarantee that it will stay that way, like any business they could lose money at any time, especially if things are mis-managed. I'm not sure how long the likes of COD/Candy Crush etc are going to captivate the public. I'm shocked that they're even still popular TBH.Nope.
It's only some of the money they already had in the bank and despite Activsion-Blizzard's terrible reputation of late they still turn over a ~$2bn net profit a year.
Thing is are they still a 2bn net profit company if they take one of there major markets out of it.Nope.

621 hours with 421 spent on NBA 2K21 and 70 on NBA 2K22... I need to add more diversity to my library.
It's already been confirmed they don't intend to make COD exclusive. Whether this only means for the deals that have already been agreed with Sony or they will publish it across all platforms like they have the Minecraft remains to be seen in the long term.
Doesn't work for me
It wont be long term, they are talking about current CoD imo...
I like your optimism..... most would be okay with timed exclusivity, but I have a feeling this is about full exclusivity going forward. Let's see... I'm not that fussed either tbf.For me perosnally I couldn't care less. I like some Blizzard games (Hearthstone and Overwatch) but the Activision catalogue does nothing for me really.
Saying that they're hugely popular among casual gamers. MS have received quite a bit of backlash based on this acquisition and will want to have positive PR to attract more users.
I can see the big titles like COD remaining available everywhere. For this gen at least. I think the occasional time Activision publish something out of their normal wheelhouse it'll be Xbox/Gamepass exclusive.

I’m glad. If only Sony were as consumer friendly. But we’ll see what happens when those agreements come to an end.@VeevaVee will be upset.

Are they any good? Was looking at the lastest one but there's a lot of awful user reviews online.

I held the opinion when the deal happened that COD would remain on PlayStation. Don't know why, really, but I still think that will happen. And it has nothing to do with Phil Spencer coming out yesterday and saying it because I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I could throw him.
The doomsday merchants in various quarters of the internet who are proclaiming the demise of PlayStation are ridiculous though, regardless of whether COD remains on the platform or not. "It's over for PlayStation" Calm the feck down
Obviously losing COD will be a blow (the numbers tell you that) but I'm sure they'll survive. Would love for them to actually focus on a First Person multiplayer shooter now. I know others have tried to take on COD and have failed, but if ever there was a time to really go for it, it would be now.

His desire to see it remain on the platform could well be "You can have it, but it's going to be through Game Pass on PlayStation, or not at all".
Is it time for Sony and Nintendo to do the unthinkable?
They cannot. They have a higher market capitalisation (260B for Disney vs 140B for Sony), but Sony has higher revenues and higher profits, and Disney definitely does not have 200B or so to buy Sony. At best, they could do a 1.5-1 merge in favor of Disney.Even after this deal MS are still a fair way behind Sony on gaming revenue.
Apple, Disney or Meta will acquire Sony or buy PlayStation at some point anyway I'd expect. Only deal challenge is with them being a Japanese company. Part of this move from Microsoft is no doubt pre emptive with that in mind.

Fiasco? A little over a year since its launch, it's their fastest selling console ever despite ongoing global semiconductor shortages, which clearly seem to be affecting newer manufacturing lines more. This would be interesting however I’d imagine Sony would need to get its shit together given the fiasco with the PS 5 stock which is still ongoing.
Don’t think Nintendo would tolerate such amateurish production.
