Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

I'm sure I read something once that the 'cross' button was initially intended to be the 'cancel' or 'back' button on in game menus, mirroring the 'x' you press to close things on computers, then nearly every dev, including sony, made it the primary 'select/open' button. The other shapes were supposed to represent things too. I think square was supposed to be the 'select/open' button.

Christ what a boring fecking paragraph.

That me giggle

Im really loving The Outer Wilds, it's clever, a brilliantly designed solar system to explore with lots of secrets and puzzles to discover & it's just choc full of charm & mystery.

this is a decent breakdown of what makes it so good:

Hows this compare to the likes of NMS and Elite Dangerous?

I love the idea of these space games but they always disappoint with little to do.

It's not really the same as those, they are all about scale, collecting resources and inventory management there's none of that here, the solar system and the planets are all very quaint & scaled down but very well designed with plenty of secrets & story to discover.

Id liken it more to something like The Witness which Is a puzzle solving game with lots of secrets & a central mystery to uncover that provides the narrative. It's just a ton more imaginative in gameplay, story and level design & with a shitload more character to it.

Accidentally left my EA Access subscription and now I have another month of access to their shit library. Tried the Mirror's Edge sequel and man that game is shite as an adult. I remembered loving the first as a kid.

NMS has improved a hell of a lot in the post-launch updates. The vastness and inventory management side of things puts people off but I've enjoyed going back to it after a few years. Went to the multiplayer hub and a random person gave me all the units and basic resources I could possibly need so been goofing off with the base building.

I'm actually intrigued now. The first time I heard about this game was when I thought I would be watching a video on The Outer Worlds and sort of dismissed it when I found out my error. The naming and timing of both games is a little unfortunate. But this sounds pretty interesting, especially at its relatively low price point.

Been meaning to get back to NMS since all the updates. Last time i played it was when they introduced vehicles, i think. I like the game for what it is. It's a relaxing experience, where there's no pressure on you to do things; no checklists to tick off.

Find it fascinating how they've changed the game over the years. The release of that game was so infamous i just didn't see a way back for them. But fair play, they've really stuck at it and people seem to love the game now. Quite the turnaround.

Ghost of Tsushima will be coming out later next year. I hope they turn it into a PS5 game also. I know there should be BC but would rather play on a console that runs it better.

Forget the adverts @Damien.

Something isn’t right in Sony land. Far too many key departures, Gio Corsi leaving this week who was one of the reasons Yakuza and many other games were given a chance in the west. Then you have Yoshida demoted from world wide studio boss unless he willingly wanted to work with indie game studios

Yoshida seems excited about it looking at his social media. He had already been hanging around indie studios for a while before the announcement.

Sony change positions like a lot of Japanese companies. They've had umpteen CEOs in the past few years. Change can often bring new ideas, I think is the thinking behind it.

Yeah, Kaz Hirai retired at 58 and I think there were rumours Yoshida was going to retire too. Wouldn't surprise me if he were to retire in a couple of years and this is just an intermediary step towards that.

It’s not just Kaz.

You got Tretton, Layden, House, Boyes and Gio Corsi leaving in the last few years. That’s a hella lot of big people leaving after a product was so successful. I probably forgot a few. There’s having new ideas and shit then there’s a ton of key people just leaving. Most of them did good jobs too. Sony got it right with first party and even third party exclusives this gen.

Not a fan of some of the shit Jim Ryan comes out with also. He was the one who was against cross play originally because it wasn’t safe for the kids and asking why would anyone play BC games.

Pretty sure Tretton left because House got the top job. House left because he wanted to spend time with his family before coming back, maybe even to Sony itself. But having said that, yeah, Layden apparently left because of Ryan and he (Ryan) seems like a bit of a dick so there might be an issue there but he'll will find out pretty quickly that he's not bigger than the company.

Something bothers me about that guy. He makes me think that he's going to screw gamers over somehow and I'm not sure how yet.

I have a question on PS Now. God of War is only available until tomorrow before it is removed, I have it downloaded instead of streaming, so will it still be unavailable to play from tomorrow even though I’ve downloaded it?

You'll know the answer now but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to play.

Anyone here have a psn account in Germany? I have a 3 month PS plus card if someone can use it..

Just PM me..

Was just reading about the gap between Xbox and Playstation 4. Obviously everyone knows that Playstation is hammering them, but not to this extent. Basically AMD released figures and said that sales for the both consoles amounted to 150 million. 109 million of that is Playstation which would suggest Xbox is around 41 million. That's a huge difference; they're getting crushed. That's a lot of people already in your ecosystem for the next gen release this year.

The Switch has also outsold the Xbox going by recent sales figures, despite releasing 3 years after the Xbox.

Guys is it worth buying a PS4 now with ps5 close by? Also PS4 or PS4 pro? Mostly just to play Pes online with friends.

My son’s ps4 is running out of storage. Any hints/tips on getting external storage? Presume it’s easy enough to set up?

If you have an external hard drive you can hook it right up, easy as anything. I’ve a 1tb seagate and it works a treat.

I should have done this, its really frustrating having to delete a game to play a new one!

I'd just make sure it's a usb 3 drive as to honest I'm not even sure you could run a game off a usb 2 drive or if the PS4 even supports it.

Once you have a drive then it's fairly simple to setup up
