Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

They've just shown too many games too early already. We can safely assume that a number of critical first-party developers are already working on some PS5 projects, but obviously these cannot be shown until the console itself is announced. So the only thing they can do is show some of the same titles again, like The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding. They would then face a bunch of criticism that their show was underwhelming and lacking new significant announcements. So yeah, the decision makes sense.

Sony skipping E3 could be a hint of when the PS5 will be released; most likely in 2020. I expect them to either have a huge blowout at PSX 2019 or perhaps save it all for E3 2019. Them not going to E3 is pretty big news, but not all that surprising. I think it's been coming for a while and probably signal the end of E3 as we currently know it.

Disappointing though as i used to look forward to it, and Sony's event in particular. There again, if they plan on having their own huge event then that could be great.

E3 is getting bigger every year though.

I think what disappoints everyone is it’s hard to keep secrets in the gaming industry nowadays unless you rockstar. Everything just leaks out few days before the conference so there are little surprises and people leave disappointed.

Let’s not forget E3 2013 was critical to the PS4 and they nailed that out of the park unlike MS.

Sony doesn’t have much to show besides showing the same games they showed this year. So it would be a pointless press conference and these conferences cost money.

Most their developers have moved to the PS5. They’d be back in 2020. They just have feck all to show in 2019 and can’t exactly show PS5 games because they want that announced in their own separate event especially if MS decide to announce their console then which is what I am predicting. MS will announce and try to release it first which is what they need to do in my opinion as well as the exclusives obviously.

Tempted to trade my PS4 Pro for a new model which should hopefully be quiet. This one sounds like a vacuum right now.

Depends on what you mean by getting bigger. More people are certainly attending, yes. But in terms of the big companies and how important it is to them i'm not sure it is. EA now holds its own event before E3 kicks off, Nintendo hasn't participated for the last couple of years and i don't even think Microsoft was at the convention centre last year where E3 takes place; they rented their own place. And now Sony won't be there. So i don't agree with it being huge in that sense. I just think companies such as Microsoft and Sony will move away from it. May be wrong, of course.

And yeah, obviously they haven't got nothing to show next year as they've already shown their hand, so that explains next years absence. But personally i think it could be a recurring theme over the next few years. They may be back in 2020 to talk about the PS5, but i wouldn't be surprised if that had their own event so the other companies won't steal their thunder. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they revealed the PS5 at PSX 2019.

Everyone rents their own place around E3 for the conferences.

MS, Sony and Nintendo along with other publishers had a big presence at the Expo though. They had a lot of booths. Yes, MS had their own place too but that was in partnership with ESA. It wasn’t like what EA did. MS had booths at E3 and in their own section too.

Yeah, i could be wrong. But that's what i think of it. It's still relevant as a marketing tool (which is what it has always been, tbf) and as place that builds hype, but as you said yourself about the leaks - you basically know what's going to be shown, so the surprise isn't there so much anymore as a gamer. I can just see the major companies branching off and doing their own thing. I mean, Sony and Microsoft obviously do that now but i can see them doubling down on it in the near future. I don't necessarily think it's going to completely disappear, but just change dramatically from what it is. Just my take on it. I still quite enjoy it to be honest, but it has lost something.

If the PS4 doesn't even get its own GTA I'll be taking it back for a refund.

My PS4 Pro sounds like a tractor. Tried to pop the top of it open to clean the fan but I managed to only partly open it. How difficult/easy is it to open full console and clean it? Or should I just leave it to people who know their stuff and bring it to a shop?
should be able to get a video on YouTube to show you how

Rockstar liked the triple dip for GTAV (PS3/Xbox360, PS4/Xbone + PC) so I can see same happening again if the next gen consoles are out in 2020 and GTAVI is released in 2021 but there'd have to be an announcement next year for GTAVI (V and RDR2 took about two years between announcement and launch).

Rockstar might be happy enough milking the $uccess of GTA Online a bit longer and with RDR2 Online being not far away there is probably no huge rush by them for GTAVI to be released.

Some excellent Black Friday deals on the store right now. Games like God of War, Monster Hunter World, Vampyre and Detroit Become Human all over 50% off. Even games as recent as Spider Man are having a significant discount. I just couldn't help myself, bought around €420 worth of fantastic games I absolutely wanted anyway for €180.

Think I'll pick god of war, shadow of the tomb raider and spiderman up. The gf will be fuming, I've ignored her since rdr2 came out and she is getting ignored for the foreseeable it seems

Is Spider Man really having a discount? It doesn't show on mine.

Just checked, still there. It's listed as the first game in the Black Friday sales, going from €69.99 to €39.99. Where do you live? I'm not sure if it's region specific.

Picked up Spiderman man for 40 quid on sale

Might not touch it until around Xmas with RD2 still to get through. So many great games to play right now, it’s a truly great time to be a console gamer.

Is Detroit worth buying ? It's only $22 and my hand is tickling, but I'm not much into these narrative drama games.

Just noticed that Fifa 19 is on $30. I need to get something out of this sale, at least one of these 2, but I don't have PS Plus currently, so maybe Fifa will be useless for me.

Great PSVR deals at the moment. Anyone interested should get one as software is great right now.

Took the decision to throw the money on Fifa 19. Feels more logical to pay $30 on a game that can last a year than a $22 on Detroit who is going to last 1-2 weeks.

Will still need to renew my PS Plus though.

Kiss your sanity goodbye.

Anybody bought Tetris Effect? Seriously contemplating buying it. Be a nice break from the huge, open world games we've been inundated with. The price is the only thing putting me off at the moment.

Anyone played Hitman 2? I've had it since release but I need to be done with Read Dead first.

Absolutely love the Hitman games though, thought the episodic digital one last year was a return to form so I'm excited to eventually play 2.

I bought it and played the first level. It's all right but feels so clumsy and outdated when played in-between RDR2 sessions. I think I will finish Red Dead first and then get myself properly into killing.

So, I went for God of war for £25.

Played 4 hours last night and already feel like I've had my money's worth. What a fun and gorgeous looking game. I've barely even started. Spent huge amounts of time trying to break every item and get to every place.

The relationship between Kratos and his boy is really brilliantly handled so far. Can see why people loved this on release

The more you play the better it gets. For me God Of War and Witcher 3, the best games this gen.
